On The Beach - 1994 Demo
Added 2020-05-17 17:30:23 +0000 UTCThis was the first time I recorded this beautiful song by Chris Rea. It was 1993 and a big name producer in Spain at that time met with me while scouting for new talent. He asked me to do my own arrangement and recording of this song as a test. He didn't believe I was able to play and record myself doing everything. So he came to my studio in Valencia and watched me while I did this demo from scratch in about four or five hours. There's no digital processing on the voice, as I only was allowed to record it twice, so it can be taken as a live performance. The arrangement is a loose jazz version of the original, and I have to confess I did a little cheating... I used parts of a midi file (a digital music score) as the basis for some of the tracks (it was the only way I could go so fast), but it didn't matter to the guy because everybody used them at that time (it's like using a calculator during a hard math exam, for example). He was happy with the result and we moved forward, but that's another story.
