Love Is All That Matters (1st Demo 2019)
Added 2020-06-23 23:13:57 +0000 UTCI began working on this song around this same day last year. I had a feeling of coziness I wanted to transmit in a song and notes began to flow. I felt I needed a song like this on the album, a glint of hope.
I drafted the first notes and left the song sitting down for a month, until July. As sometimes happens, that day it somehow came to life fully formed :) In one morning I had the music and lyrics, and the next day I recorded the demo vocals. Then on the third day I did this demo mix. At that time it seemed a good idea to try and reference the classic sound of Christopher Cross and I outlined the arrangement so I could begin designing the drums.
The problem was that after the first excitement, this arrangement, being so close in style to other classic songs, felt weak, so I began again to think ways of telling the song away from that initial idea. That's when the acoustic guitar arrangement you can hear closing the album was born. After that I challenged Jose Spinnin to produce the song and he struggled a little but finally came up with the EDM version that's on the album.
So this is the long story short :) Enjoy!

Thatโs a good question ๐ I usually start writing them in English. In my mind music always happens in English. I struggled a lot years ago when I had to write songs for other artists in Spanish, it was a big learning moment for me. I had written โTe quiero junto a miโ some years before, but that had been a one off (and that original version had half of the song in English, something I took off later from it), but my approach to Spanish song lyrics was more like if was German or something like that ๐ (I spent more time looking for a good sound rather than good lyrics). Now people is asking me to write another song in Spanish for the next album, and Iโm struggling again, it will not be easy haha. Funny thing is I also write novels, and the one published and the other two in the making are in Spanish, but itโs a whole different creative form, Non related (in my head) to music. I can definitely hear the Christopher Cross sound in this version and I personally liked it....but then it is wonderful to hear how you personally 'pushed' yourself to another level of artistry that you wanted and desired for the final version. Thank you so much for sharing such very intimate and personal process with us....it just draws us that much closer to you musically, emotionally as well as spiritually too!!! Ben...I do have a question that I would like to ask of you.....when you create a song such as the one above....does the original concept come to you in 'Spanish' or in 'English' since you are so fluent and comfortable and being bilingual and able to speak and understand both...does one come more 'naturally' to you than another artistically speaking?
