Weekly Status Report

Good afternoon,

The week is winding down again, and I wanted to give you a quick update on what I’ve been working on over the past few days.

As I mentioned last time, my main focus this week has been on animations and image work. I also need to circle back to something I wrote about last week regarding Katherin’s outfit. When it came time to actually edit the images, I wasn’t happy with the outfit I’d made for her. Her original outfit, the one she wears at home, ended up looking way better. The only problem was that it didn’t quite fit her body measurements… I had to do a lot of juggling to pick a model where the textures wouldn’t totally clip (when I made the images for her during Tia's update). However the body was different from that when she was naked which was something I didn't like and what made me work on the new outfit in the first place.

What I ended up doing now was transferring the clothing textures of that outfit onto a different 3D model, so I can now use it with her actual character model. While I was at it, I decided to redo all of Katherin’s dialogue portraits so everything looks consistent with the newly created ones. Here’s an example:

I’m still working on adding proper background renders to the last images for transitions. Not sure if I’ll finish that today, but now that the animations are mostly done, it shouldn’t be too long before all the images are complete. (I might have to make a few more when I start writing the dialogues if I notice something’s missing.)

Which brings us nicely to the next step: actually writing the scene. I’ll start on that next week. The intro will take place during a shared meal with Katherin, where she’ll mention that she wants to stay a part of Tia’s life and therefore feels the need to visit Rumah and get familiar with the local customs.

I’ll be adjusting her daily routine so that she visits Rumah every other evening, with the option to return directly to her own house (in case you want to have dinner with her there).

The goal for next week is to finish the scene completely. As always, I won’t pin myself to a specific date, there could be unexpected issues. The biggest challenge I see right now is managing all the layers in the campfire scene… it’s already packed, and fitting Katherin in there wasn’t easy. But I've now made a few animations for her there. I just have to read myself back into that whole scene since it was really a complex one.
