Art Update

So, as I hope you can see, I'm coming along fairly well with improving my art. The attached piece was intended to be concept art of another Sexy Cosplay Cafe character named Serena...but I'm not sure I like the end result for her. It's not a bad fit, but I think I'm going to make another attempt to see if I can capture what I'm aiming for with her personality a bit better.

Irritatingly, however, I've also hit a bit of a wall. I actually tried to clean up the lines of the attached image, but as you can see if you take a good look, they're still pretty shaky in places. This is the result of a frustrating issue I'm having using the Wacom tablet for drawing. Namely, you can't effectively rotate the thing, like you could a piece of paper. Oh, sure, you can use the rotate command in photoshop to move the canvas around...but that doesn't change the physical orientation of the Wacom tablet to match. Unfortunately, when I draw on paper, I'm used to being able to manipulate things like that, and the result is that a lot of the strokes I'm making feel incredibly awkward with the tablet. Which results in some less-than-stable lines, despite my best efforts.

I'm currently not sure how to go about fixing the problem. I know a couple of other people who use drawing tablets that I'm going to ask. But I suspect the answer may be an extremely frustrating 'you just need to get used to it' >_<. I also might be able to alter my physical setup to help, make a way that I CAN change the orientation of the tablet. But my home office is pretty cramped, so I'm not sure exactly how I'd go about doing that.

Regardless, if I can fix that problem, as well as simply put in a couple of dozen more hours of practice, I think I'll be at the point where my lines are up to snuff. Of course...then I have to tackle color...which is something I'm dreading since I've literally never done that before. I've been reassured by a couple of artist friends that it isn't to bad, at least for the style I'm drawing for, but the thought still makes me a little anxious -_-.
