Paul has hit the nail on the head there. Definitely not the best episode ever, but such a good mix of the historical and the sci-fi, scary bits, funny bits... and Catherine Tate must have killed the haters from this episode on with that performance. She's just superb in that scene in the TARDIS that Failwhale commented on. It is one of the best 'early in the season' episodes for me though - I often find it takes til half-way through a season for things to really pick up (Season 1 Dalek, Season 2 Impossible Planet, Season 3 Human Nature for me), so it's good to see a decent episode this early on.

I think you summed up that up perfectly. Good starter pack to doctor who Imo as well. When I go off recommending it to ppl who aren’t patient enough to go thru each ep like me I might refer them of this too!

I think that if I had to show people ONE episode that summs up Doctor Who, this is a strong contender. My favourite Doctor/Companion combo. An early story for a new companion, so they get to learn the rules of the series (TARDIS translation, fixed points in time, etc). Drama. Comedy. Aliens interfering in the history of Earth. A massive moral dilemma - this has it all. It may not be the *best* episode, but if you’re looking to show off what Doctor Who is actually ABOUT, this is pretty much perfect.

the 1/10 of the population never actually died, as time was reversed, thank god!

There is something on your back... Very perceptive with your guess regarding how you think this season will go. A lot of episodes have a dark and depressing undercurrent to them. Donna’s pretty awesome, getting the doctor to at least save someone. And how the oracles were getting “visions” from the volcano fumes is historically accurate, so that’s nice.

Great to know Karen Gillan and Peter Capaldi were part of Doctor Who even though it was only for one episode

Going to take a nap and get shadowhunters up tonight as well with the walking dead episode I missed from last night. 💜
