Using technology to demonize our own citizens and further dehumanize our military? Sounds pretty contemporary to me. Iβm dissatisfied with dystopian stories that consign the protagonist to his fate. They reek of futility and despair. If our soldier had chosen to take his own life rather than lose his soul or mind that would have been a brave existential choice restoring his dignity as a human being. Also, I didnβt care for the racial dynamic of a black man getting mind-fucked by a supremacist. Itβs hard to see the casting as incidental. By the way, I didnβt see the twist coming until about 5 minutes before you did. We should have seen it sooner.
