Jackal Reference

(Warning: Some people make really beautiful references. I am not that person lol. I want something quick and useful so I can go back to working on my ten million other ideas).

Jackal is probably my favourite Baldur’s Gate 3 OC (“Tav”) I’ve played so far. He was kind of imagined as a sort of “Pirate”-esque character: high charisma, insight, etc, but he’s also a good fighter and deals really high damage. The trade-off is that he has relatively low HP, so he gets downed pretty easily, but usually has some kind of amulet/buff or something to get up again and keep going. I multi-classed him into Cleric as well (to a Tempest god) just for fun lol, but its become a big part of his lore now.

I'm still working on his backstory and I’m extremely indecisive so I don’t want to say too much in case I change things. But I want to give these characters their own story separate from BG3 and the Absolute and all that.

He’s an Asmodeus Tiefling and spent a lot of time in the Hells and Outlands when he was a child (and occasionally as an adult). He has worked many jobs, most of them criminal, is extremely well-traveled (including different planes), and knows a lot of people. These days he’s mostly a smuggler in and out of the Underdark. He acts as the unofficial leader of their group, in that he’s really the only one that actually likes other people and is pretty chill and easy to get along with, so he’s going to be the one to approach people, ask questions, etc.

He’s a Fighter (Champion, Great Weapon Fighting) foremost, but is also multi-classed into Rogue (Assassin) and Cleric (of Talos). He mostly uses his Cleric powers for a) the cool radiant effects, b) intimidation, and c) Blessing himself to get a higher chance of his attacks hitting lol. He has no heals or anything like that, he just uses Bless and gives his weapon radiant damage. He also just enjoys being a “Cleric”. He came from nothing (worse than nothing), has had a really difficult life, and despite everything, and even his current occupation as a criminal, he gets to call himself a Cleric and use this holy power. Although he uses these powers to intimidate other people and win fights (and mock others lol), deep down he’s kind of proud to have this deeper presence in his life. Even if it IS an evil god… To him its still something that’s bigger than him, and also not actively trying to kill him, so he appreciates it, in his own way.

He has no overreaching goals or dreams and never has. He’s always been focused on surviving, the next job, etc. Its the same for romantic partners. He’s never really experienced any healthy relationships before, let alone intimate ones, so he doesn’t imagine anything like that happening in his life. However he is extremely sexually promiscuous and will pretty much fuck anything that would agree to it… He’s self-indulgent and versatile and enjoys anything that feels good (and isn’t hurting anyone else).
