Luffys left when he was like 17. So ace was with Luffy until 3 years before, so like 14 I guess. Luffy was with shanks and ate the devil fruit when he was probably like 7. So there was like a 10 year gap between when he was with shanks and when he left the island. You will see more of that time in the future

2024-12-18 06:39:18 +0000 UTCluffy said that ace left 3 years before him. so since episode one until now its been like a few months or even less i guess. so the last time they were together was 3 years before luffy leaving (3 years before episode 1). so they were still with each other after shanks since luffy was very young then. luffy also ate the devil fruit with shanks so ace already knew
