Genies are notorious for misinterpreting wishes. Now to be fair, being trapped in a bottle or lamp for hundreds or thousands of years could drive anyone slightly mad. It might definitely leave them less cooperative than they might be. Then there's the whole business of the geas to perform. Not much chance to practice when you are trapped in a bottle.
