3 minute bottle

Hey everyone, here's a quick modeling exercise where I go through how to use modifiers and remeshing to create a bottle object.

You may also see there are a couple of interesting materials included in this file. In particular the White Polyethylene (PE) and the Silver PE. If you have KIT OPS 2 PRO, you should add them to your library. If not, just use the append command to add them to a scene file.

Calculate surface intersection from 2 objects

Both Lightwave and SketchUp have for decades the ability to calculate the surface intersection of two objects without having to boolean cut, intersect, or union them. I recently was wondering why Blender did not have this feature? Turns out it is there, but you have to get at it a bit differently than with the traditional modifiers.

Huge Blender UX issue fix

How many times have you accidentally hit the 1 or 2 key in object mode and watched as your collections disappeared? And then you start clicking through things trying to figure out which collection it was and which objects were visible in that collection and which ones you had hidden?

Free GUI KPACK for Patreon Customers

Hey everyone!

Created this KPACK with SYNTH and BATCH and then created a video showing you how to use it. Check it out.

When you download the KPACK, it comes with full resolution thumbnails! This means the KPACK is probably 2X the size it could be, but you can use those trans PNGS in other ways too. I'll create a version that has the smaller thumbs, but just wanted you to know.

Create Frames and Ribs

Some stuff I've been working on

Hey everyone,

I've been working on building a "speed model" workflow using a custom set of KIT OPS INSERTS from a KPACK I'm calling "Design Magic." 

It's pretty much a rapid way to create  some very fast and hyperdetailed models without having to spend a lot of time tweaking verts. And, for the most part, it's very non-destructive.

Greeble City

Here's the scene-- only works with SYNTH. Auto-generated and rendered 30 of these in only 13 minutes using K-Cycles. Also, unzip S-Greebles.zip and put them in your SYNTH_Masterfolder along with the S-Spacestation KPACK folder from the last post. 

Just download this file and using SYNTH you can generate lots of Greeble cities :-)

Added: Took one and rendered it out as a scene. Didn't adjust anything except the textures. Worth viewing at 1:1

I'm still working on the tutorial, and I'll have lots to share. I've created a great new Space KPACK with a bunch of stuff, including all the greebles you see here as well as materials.

I'm working with a Shape Generator (more on that soon) so the whole process is surprisingly fast. Plus I have some new SYNTH recipes to share which can help populate the surface of a complex ship or space station.

SYNTH + K-Cycles

Hey folks, been playing around with a new beta version of SYNTH combined with a new beta version of KIT OPS 2 PRO, and created some interesting workflows that I'll be sharing soon.

One of the nice things about Cycles is it can render displacement maps whereas EEVEE cannot. So, you can use a free displacement map generator like js-displacement and quickly create designs like those pictured here.

K-Cycles: Just ridiculous

Wow.

Just WOW! Eric Klein shared with me his years long work optimizing Cycles for SPEED and ease of use, and OH... MY... GOSH...

It's seriously fast-- fast enough that I'm now considering using Cycles for many of my renders! Crazy fast. Of course it's a custom build of Blender, but a lot of us (including the Hard Ops and Boxcutter folks) have banged on it and it's ROCK SOLID. And of course all of our addons, including KIT OPS, SYNTH, etc. work fine as well.

Off the beaten path

So hey all, just thought I'd share some interesting stuff I've found lately.
First off, I've been a big fan of e-ink tablets for awhile now. I bought many of them to test them and finally settled on the Boxx Note Air.
I used it and a Remarkable to create the design notes I've posted previously.

Update and some new materials

Hey gang, 

I know it's been awhile. Lot's going on. Many of you heard about my father's passing. Thanks so much for the well wishes. Only 7 days afterwards, my mother-in-law passed as well. They both lived with us on the ranch here, in a duplex we built for them away from the main area. They were 90 and 82 respectively-- and were the best of friends. Very sad, but they both lived great lives and we are reminded of it with all the wonderful things they did for our family.

My Father passed

My Dad died 2 days ago. He was 90 and died of kidney failure. One of my sisters was at his side here in Austin when he went.

I am named as his executor-- and it's the first time I've had to do this. Dad's estate has many accounts and people involved. This means for the next couple of weeks I probably won't be posting much and wanted to let you all know.

Some Free Cables

Sometimes, cables can really helps sell as scene. I have a few cable sets I use for a lot of quick sketches, like the one above. As ususal, unzip and put the "CablesFinished" folder into a KIT OPS Masterfolder and you're good to go.
