The winner of the patron map lotto was Dan Kimble, whose suggestion of a tavern coaxed into shape by a high level druid was both challenging and rewarding to illustrate. I took some liberties with the idea, and this is the result: an outdoor refuge tucked into a forest, complete with small garden for vegetarian foodstuffs ready to be served on mushroom tables, and two "rooms" of vine-based hammocks for weary adventurers to pass the night. It's a wonderful idea, and I was delighted to make it....

This map was another experiment of mine, to make a "dungeon" style map that wasn't a literal dungeon. For this map, I've made a small city section under barricaded off at different sections, ready for a group of enterprising adventurers to cleanse. Is the city under attack by an invading army? Have seedy underworld elements risen up to wreak havoc? Are the townsfolk stoking the fires of a burgeoning revolution? This map fits a variety of possible scenarios. I've also made a handful of variant...

My long-time patrons will know of my enduring admiration for Ross's work at 2minutetabletop. He's my favorite map artist and he's doing some great work. Go check him out if you like. His patreon is here.
This was an exercise at practicing some new techniques based on some of his newer work, and I thought I would make a little cu...

Farmers have complained to the village alderman, and a spate of livestock thieves have been plaguing the countryside, cattle, sheep, and hogs inexplicably missing from the fields. It isn't until a village youth spotted a giant griffin swoop from the skies to grab its surprised supper that the alderman commissioned a mercenary to slay the beast, but that was weeks ago, and the sellsword hasn't been seen since. Now, the coffers are much diminished, but an enterprising adventurer might be persua...

Deep below the bowels of the city, this basin collects refuse and runoff from every corner before flowing out. Derelict and disrepair, whatever old stonework led to the other side is crumbled and broken, as is a suspiciously sturdy stone door sealing the way beyond, but was it broken into or out of? If one wants to examine it more closely however, they must first cross the rancid waters to get to the other side, and there is no telling what foul life might be teeming beneath the opaque surfac...

I was inspired once again by Ross McConnell over at 2minutetabletop and his gorgeous Cultist's Lair and Dungeon Jail pieces, and I've also wanted to do more actual dungeonesque maps lately, especially modular pieces that can be tied together in some capacity depending on the narrative of your game. Perhaps this sewer can lead to the Smuggler's Tunnel map I did some time ago. Perhaps the passage leads down in...

Hey all, I thought it would be a fun idea to do a map lotto and see how it goes. Here's how it works: Comment with an idea for a map or asset pack, and after a week or so, I will roll a die to select an entry at random and illustrate it. I will also increase the number range for each like on a comment as well, so an idea with 5 likes would cover numbers 1-6 to get chosen. So if you like an idea, feel free to give it a heart to increase the chances it gets picked.
Silly ideas are allowed...

I've been growing a little more fascinated with making some larger scale pieces similar to the Cultist's Lair maps I released in January, and also some that would pair well with the Build Your Own Town/City assets I release periodically. So, if your party is taking a trek through the forest on their way to a town, or perhaps to root out some pesky bandits or fey creatures in the woods, I hope you'll find this map suitable for such an encounter.

Deep in the forest, this shaded grove serves as the final resting place of a breathtaking beast, a crown of antlers budding with crimson leaves, a colossal skeleton of Tarrasque-like proportions. How long this old God has rested here is anyone's guess, but the budding life all around demonstrates its greatest power, and the core tenet that druids and rangers know all too well: Life cannot be destroyed, only changing from one form to another. Perhaps one day, it will return to this one, bu...

As promised, I wanted to show off a bit what can be done with the asset pack I produced last week, and I thought I would customize this city a bit. I'd love to see what you all come up with for your own cities or towns, and I look forward to expanding on this series of town/city assets that allow DMs the flexibility to design their own locations to suit their needs.

As I was drawing the Medieval City map I've got planned, it occurred to me that it would be wiser to build an asset pack before making a city instead of reverse engineering it as I'd done with many of the BYO assets. I've had far too much time on my hands lately and I got a bit carried away with thi...
