How Should I Shade My Exclusives?

As most of you know, I have two major shading styles, one that's more cell-shaded and cartoony, and one that's more smooth and "realistic." As I've gone through all these exclusives, I've been wondering, should I try to mostly use my smoother shading, focus on the cartoon shading, or, what I've kinda been doing, go with whichever is closer to the source material?
