Getting the most from Grindhouse North & Patreon

UPDATED FEBRUARY 2025

This post is about helping you get the most from being a part of Grindhouse North, as well as dealing with some of the queries and questions I get asked frequently.

As always, if you have any comments, suggestions, or ideas (whether that's for stories or for patron benefits etc) just DM me.

There are some important notes about downloads as well as customs, requests etc, toward the end of this post, so please read and digest. ...

Clothing requests

I love getting requests from you patrons - and those requests take many forms. Sometimes it's a particular type of death, or an particular action within the video.

One type of request I do get a lot of is for clothing, in terms of types and styles etc. Some requests are really broad, such as including a leather jacket, or a blouse becoming untucked, someone wearing spectacles, etc. These are pretty easy to accommodate and I'll often have suitable items in the Grindhouse North ward...

Coming soon in April

Here is a sneak peak of a few things that are in store for you patrons throughout April.

Where I am is currently in lockdown, as I'm sure is the case for many of you. I'm hoping the restrictions will be eased in the coming weeks so I can get back to shooting. I do have tons of footage on file though, so it won't be any problem keeping the gore flowing. I'll do a post about the current production situation in a few days.

In the meantime, enjoy this sneak peak of what yo...

Blood Cult: Honey's Game

I'm really excited to share this with you. Amber and Laura both do amazing jobs as demented killer and innocent victim respectively. And it was so much fun to shoot and features a few elements requested by patrons through comments and DMs.

So in this video, Amber plays Honey - the youngest member of the Blood Cult and it's most twisted and demented killer. Although an adult she still dresses and acts like a child. She is out one day and wanders into an apartment building on the lo...

Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Part 4 - Video Archive Release

So hopefully you've seen previous archive release posts explaining about when I started in 2014 I was messing around with photo-stories.

So this is more a collection of clips rather than a video, as such. It goes with the archive photo story I just posted - check it out https://www.patreon.com/posts/35210238/

When I was shooting Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Part 4 with Sadie I got a couple of short c...

The Package

Here's the new release you voted for - The Package, an extended edit and early access release just for you patrons.

The Package features Amber as a young thief, hired to steal a suitcase containing some very important, very damning, information about some very powerful people. Laura B is the fixer sent to resolve the issue ...

I really hope you enjoy this release. Both Amber and Laura give great performances and it was a lot of fun to shoot. Hopefully, you'll see an improvem...

What shall I edit next?

Tomorrow, I'll be editing next week's release, an exclusive extended cut for patrons a week or so before a shorter edit is shared on YouTube.

But I can't decide which film to edit and release next, so I thought I would give you patrons the choice.

The Package is an overkill shooting. Whereas Blood Cult: Sugar & Spice is stabbing frenzy with a good gut ripping.

Have a look at the screen grabs and leave your vote in the next 24 hours.

Thanks, Dan View Post

Project Horror - What The Future Holds

Hi Patrons. I hope you are all well and managing to stay safe.

I just wanted to take a minute and explain the context of what I'm posting at the moment and how I see the project developing and growing. Please take the time to read it and feel free to message me or leave a comment below.

Everything you have seen so far has been shot at auditions or screen tests. Casting for Project Horror is actually pretty tough - I can always find people who want to shoot, but are the...

Project Horror and Coronavirus (COVID-19)

Firstly, I hope everyone is keeping safe.

Secondly, I just wanted to assure everyone that I am sitting on top of a mountain of unreleased content. Even if I was quarantined for six months, I have enough video in the bank to be able to release at least one update every week.

In the meantime, I'm going to carry on filming new content - until such a point where it's just not sensible to do so. I always use home-town talent anyway (support the local economy!!), but I'll co...

The Blood Ripper - The Ballad of Agent Cody

An extended, exclusive cut just for you patrons. I'll be putting an edited down, shorter  version of this on YouTube this weekend.

In this film, Agent Cody is investigating the disappearances of local people. She's heard of the legend of the Blood Ripper - she doesn't believe, but she's spooked when she enters an old house and starts looking around. She is startled by a sound and then rushed by the ripper.

Abi's performance is excellent and very nuanced and is one of th...

Out For Blood - teaser

Had a fun shoot with Amber and Danielle this morning. Had big plans for this shoot but they all had to change last minute - it happens! Managed to shoot a great grindhouse shootout with them both. Can't wait to get started editing the video.

Re-edit - Two Bullets For Bella (shooting test)

At the beginning of the week, I shared Two Bullets for Bella - which was my first attempt at doing digital blood squibs. if you missed it, check it out here https://www.patreon.com/posts/two-bullets-for-34733765

I got some really helpful feedback on how I might improve how I apply the FX etc. I had a few hours this morning to have another go and thought I'd share this here.

There Will Be Blood - production update

I continue to be overwhelmed by your support so thank you, again, as it really means something.

So I'm dipping into the pledge money and on Sunday I'm filming with Amber and Laura. Hopefully, having two actors will enable me to tell better, more richer stories. Quite a few of you have mentioned in DMs that it would be good to see more people actually on screen.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time: Part 2 - Archive Release

If you've not checked out Wrong Place, Wrong Time part 1, you should https://www.patreon.com/posts/wrong-place-time-34515811

This picks up after the events in part 1, with Dani searching for her missing friend but finding, instead, an even more grisly fate.

As with part 1, this was around 2014 before I started learning how to video. There are some short clips of Dani that I will u...

Two Bullets for Bella - shooting test

As you know I've been running a poll and a lot of you wanted some shooting stories. So I bought some digital squibs and applied them on this screen test I shot with Amber. It's a screen test, so there's no build up or story or anything.

I know the squib work on this is far, far from perfect. But I wanted to show it to you Gore Hound and Psycho Killer patrons because your feedback is important and I think you'll enjoy the video. Also, Amber looks amazing and her performance is ace....

Mia Gunned Down

This is an exclusive release, just for you Gore Hound and Psycho Killer Patrons - I won't be putting this on YouTube!!!

Meet Mia, a long-time collaborator of mine. Mia is my go-to model/actress when it comes to custom jobs. She's really good at extended death throes, as you'll be able to see in this video.

This is part of a custom job we shot a few weeks back. There are parts of the job that I'm not able to post here due to the content, but I thought you'd appreciate the cha...

What shall I shoot next?

How am I doing? Is there something you particularly want to see next? I thought I'd run a quick poll to see what people wanted. I think I set the poll so you can vote for more than one thing. You can always DM me and let me know of any story ideas you have - especially if there's something you want to see that isn't on the list below.

A promise and a plea - important, please read

So, I want to start off by thanking all my patrons and anyone who follows me on Instagram and/or subscribes to me on YouTube - you are amazing people. I'll admit that I've been overwhelmed by all your support. When I launched my Patreon last weekend, I honestly thought I would get like one or two patrons max.

I thought it would be a good idea to write a post and explain exactly what your support means in practical terms.

So my simple promise to you is this ... ...

The Blood Ripper: Murder in the Red Barn

Here's an early access release just for you amazing patrons.

The Blood Ripper is an unseen entity that has claimed the lives of many men, women, and children. The police are struggling to explain the murders, so the victims families turn to private investigator Emily Jackson for help. She heads to an abandoned building on the outskirts of town where she makes a shocking discovery.

I filmed this back in 2017 and was planning on making a web series around the Blood Ripper. Do you th...

Laura B Screen Test Teaser

Today I had the joy of working with local actor Laura B, who came in to do a screen test for Project Horror. She was great to work with. We filmed quite a long death scene featuring a few blood coughs and some prosthetic guts. On the first blood cough, there's a really cool splat sound as the blood hits the floor.

I'll do a full video of Laura's screen test in due course but I thought I would share this short teaser with you patrons so you get a taste of what's coming.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time - Blood Cough Video - Archive Release

So hopefully you've seen the previous post explaining about when I started in 2014 I was messing around with photo-stories - if you've not seen the post, go check it out.

When I was shooting Wrong Place, Wrong Time with Shannon I got a couple of short clips of her blood cough, which was pretty cool. I've never posted this anywhere before, but thought you amazing patrons would enjoy seeing it.

Wrong Place, Wrong Time - Archive Release

My background is in photography, so when I first tried producing some horror-based content I naturally started with photo-sets or photo-stories. This was around 2014 and I quickly realised that I wasn't going to be able to tell the stories I wanted to if I stuck with still images. So I went away and started learning how to film.

I did a few of these photosets - all based around the same masked killer. I never published the full sets anywhere, as I didn't know quite what to do with...

Meet Abi - the latest addition to the Project Horror family

I did a fashion shoot with Abi about a month ago and she just happened to mention that she had just graduated with a degree in drama. So I told her all about Project Horror and we were really keen to work together. I have to say, she totally smashed her first shoot. We did a pretty straight forward gut slice, belly stab thing - but Abi really bought something extra to it. I can't wait to share the video with you awesome Patrons and I also can't wait to work with Abi again
