Weretober ‘25: Megatherium
After three long years, I've returned to Weretober, eager to demonstrate how much I've learned since my last attempt!

"...Raise your glass, I’ve decided you’ll be my friend: I’m Doyle, the rat-faced, savage, Marked Ursine…or merely Doyle for short.” -Doyle, Project Dream
'Doyle the Marked Ursine', created in Procreate.
A piece painted to keep my hand and mind in practice while I travel between conventions; thankfully, I've only one left before I can take a month-long break to focus on the production of art!
Your patience and support are deeply appreciated,

Thanks for your patience amidst my hectic travel schedule! Currently, I have several pieces/ studies at various stages of completion, so I can easily resume my work the moment I return from a convention. This will likely be the last update for the month since I'll be selling at Dragon Con this Wednesday until Monday, then Tails and Tornadoes two days afterwards (...I also need a brief hiatus to play Silksong ).
Though I wish I had more studio time this month, I'm immensely grateful for ...

Painted in oil on an 18x24" panel.
The next painting shouldn't take as long to dry! I simply need to finish the drawing before I leave for IFC next week. Given my schedule of events, this month will be an excellent test of resilience, but I'm confident I'll emerge as a more seasoned, disciplined artist.
Your patience and support are deeply appreciated,

An anatomical study from Aime Morot's 'Good Samaritan', painted with oil on an 8x10" canvas.
Despite how often I paint, rarely do any of my efforts feel like a sudden, developmental breakthrough; if I correctly recall, it's only occurred three, perhaps four times since my artistic pursuits earnestly began...that is, until my most recent study. Naturally, none of the academic concepts have changed, yet a few adjustments in my approach, and a new sense of validation allowed me to produce...

2025-07-27 02:09:00 +0000 UTC View PostI recently created an illustration to be featured on the backsides of a collectible art print series inspired by trading card games, but I've yet to settle on a name. Which do you prefer?
The poll will be open for a week, then the top four results will be listed in a public poll on social media.
Your help is much appreciated, thank you!

'Glimpse', 'Reach'? I've yet to decide a name, but it was created in Procreate.
This illustration was designed to serve as the backs for a collectible art card project I plan to produce in the coming months, though I can't quite settle on a name since it will ultimately become the series' title. I narrowed my list to: 'Glimpse', 'Reach', 'Plight', 'Glimmer', 'Shimmer', 'Blink', 'Anthirio', and 'Stargazer'. I'd be satisfied with any of them, so I've decided to conduct a public poll, the...

'Tempting Fate', painted in oil on an 18x24" panel.
I present my first traditionally painted fantasy illustration! Though it still needs time to dry before the final varnish, I'm proud of the final result and am eager to apply the lessons learned toward my next piece!
Despite my experience in representational oil painting, creating a fantasy scene felt like an entirely different discipline, a humble reminder to avoid complacency in one's skills and/process, lest the image will ult...

A study of Silver Linings, notated by ear.
I was pleasantly surprised by the composition's simplicity, yet how powerful the music felt from the live instrument; I definitely need to have more confidence in my musical decisions despite my DAW's limitations, and come to appreciate the beauty of relative simplicity.
Listen to the original here, I highly recommend it!

A study of a hyena, painted with oil on an 8x10" linen canvas.
Updated 7/7/25: The study has been varnished, and I believe the differences speak for themselves!
The only disadvantage to oil paint is the dark values gradually grey...I'm not impressed with the photo, but once the paint dries, I'll varnish and re-shoot it.

An Ursine sketch drawn with graphite and red crayon on 11x14" paper.
A very brief study inspired by Shane Wolfe's drawing, a lax exploration of Ursine proportions and anatomy without any expectation to be finished or refined; sometimes, it's pleasant to simply sketch, regardless of the outcome.

Painted in oil on 11x14" paper.
A key lesson: when using impastos, the brush strokes should inherently resemble the texture they're meant to indicate.

Though the final composition seems sufficient, I admittedly felt lost throughout the process, which is indicative of my current opinion towards music more broadly; the songs eventually sound decent, but I've hardly any control over the final result, and, by extension, the theme, or emotional impact. Beauty exists in intuitive approaches, but I can't be satisfied with my work if I can't personally comprehend it.
I may need a brief break from original composition to compose a few studie...

2025-05-28 00:40:19 +0000 UTC View PostThis is quite the unprecedented post, but I saw an opportunity to submit a voice audition for a new indie animation project called This N That on Twitter.
When people first hear me speak, I'm often asked if I voice act or sing, so I figured I should try my luck! If I happen to secure a role, it should be good practice for my future audiobook narrations, but it will add yet another commitment to my already busy schedule...I'll manage somehow!
