Early KYS Sketches

My first drawings of Yeong-Soo. He was initially much more stern looking, but I decided it was too close to Kusanagi, and wanted him to look softer, younger, and more vulnerable.

Also note that his surname is Kim and his personal name is Yeong-Soo. East Asian naming order puts the family name first, so a westernized ordering would have him be Yeong-Soo Kim.

I fell into a pretty big hole and I’m only now climbing out. Taking care of yourself is a process, and I’m trying to better do that now and in the future. Thanks so much for sticking around with me. When illustrating stories, sometimes it helps to look to other art for inspiration- not to reference the style, content, or even technique- but rather to study how they make you feel. If I'm looking to make a reader feel a certain way, I look for art that makes me feel similarly, and try to deconstruct how that was achieved. It's a pretty open-ended exercise, but I think it's very useful.
