Bugfix Build 0.2.8


I'm releasing a new build in the hopes it will be less buggy than 0.2.7. However, this build also includes some major updates to the structure and balance of the game. Issues with 0.2.7

When I released 0.2.7 I knew there would be many bugs since there were so many changes to basically every part of the game. As time has gone on more issues have been reported. While I'm still in the middle of trying to build out chapter 3 I feel it necessary to release a bug fix build.

This is a bit of a problem as I was also in the middle of the character/battle/status effect rework and rebalancing but I've spent about 8 hours yesterday trying to put it back into a playable state.

Dev Report August/September 2022

Hey everyone! Just wanted to give you a little update about what I'm working on. I spent the later half of August on some changes in preparation for Chapter 3. These were somewhat technically challenging changes that would break everything and I was hesitant to delve into them but also felt they needed to be tackled before expanding the game's content any further. Dev update August 2022

Collecting Feedback

Hey everyone, since Chapter Two is completed (for now,) I figure it is a good time to tackle some high priority issues. I have a general idea of what I think is important but I would like to hear your thoughts too.

Build 0.2.6 The Realm of The Faerie Queen

At long last it is here! The final piece of Chapter Two, at least for now. Face off against the Prince one last time and witness the conclusion to this chapter.

Small Dev Update

Hey everyone, just wanted to let you know that I'll try to release the chapter 2 finale scene this month. Not everything will be finished and polished but honestly I've become so burned out on it that I need to release what I can and let myself work on other parts of the game. Initial planning for chapter three


Hey everyone, I have some more chapter three concept and planning stuff. I'm sharing with goblin tier+ so feel free to leave feedback and suggestions.

I have a basic idea of what I want to happen in chapter 3 but a lot of details still need to be worked out. So far I'm planning for three main areas that will be along a coastal area and inside volcanic caves.

New weapon type

I'm working on implementing a new weapon type for Lyric. This was going to come a little bit later but I think he'll get it from the start now. I still have to work on a few more animations and final art for the bow and arrow.

Issues with 0.2.5

Here's a list of issues so far:

  • Black screen after surrendering to a single goblin encounter the third time
  • Black screen after armor shop scene when hero gets his armor
  • Black screen after entering hero's bedroom with Lukka
  • Ash doesn't disappear after sleeping with hero (older issue)


All of these are fixed and I'll release a new build later. Are there any other major issues that anyone has discovered before I do though?

Build 0.2.5.1 Feisty Forest Frolic (Bug fix and more)

Build 0.2.5.1 is up! I can't guarantee everything is fixed but hopefully it fixes more than it breaks!


A new build is here! The main focus of this build is the new forest zones bringing along with it a new plant based monster, the mantrap! This expands on the beginning part of chapter two before reaching the forest shrine. Hopefully making this part of the game more interesting and better paced from the time of leaving the mercenary camp to returning back to it for the night....

Status of next build

Hey everyone just quick wanted let you know I'm releasing a build soon. 

This won't be the final part of chapter two. That is not quite finished but is maybe 70% done.  It's hard to say for sure at the moment as some stuff may still be shifted around. I'll do a full break down in a future post.

Dev Update

Hey guys, sorry for the absence and lack of updates the past month. Things didn't really go according to the plan I had back in September and I ended up needing to find a new place to live. I'm settled in my new place now so I'm back to working on the game.

I would like to release a build this month but it won't be the full chapter 2 finale. That will take a bit longer to finish. Instead I can try to release some smaller parts.

Instructions for running the game on a mac?

Instructions are submitted by other users and are not tested or officially endorsed by the developer at this time.


Drag the application to your Applications folder and run this in the terminal:  chmod +x /Applications/MonsterSouls_0.2.8_OSX.app/Contents/MacOS/MonsterSouls_0.2.8_OSX

Make sure the directory matches the name of the version you downloaded.

Another quick update

Hey everyone just want to give an update on the status of the next build. Unfortunately I think the next update will have to be delayed. Due to unforeseen circumstances in my life, I've had trouble concentrating on some of the tasks required to finish the new scenes.

October small update + plans

Hey everyone! I just want to give a small update and talk about plans for the remainder of Chapter Two.

Since the last build I’ve been working on the goblin battle scripts and added a new goblin variant. I want every enemy to have a variety of abilities instead of just attacking every turn, and some monsters will have unique interactions with other monsters in battle.

Build 0.2.3 Direwolves

The new build is here! The highlight of this build is the addition of the new monster type, the direwolves! They are a pack of intelligent beasts who have an alliance with the goblins and guard the entrances of their encampment. They are led by the Alpha Wolf who is a boss level monster. There are a couple different ways to deal with him, although don't fret if you are not able to beat him on the first encounter, you can have a rematch somewhere else in the encampment.

Preparing for build next week

I'm tying up a couple last minute loose ends and then I need to test the game to make sure there isn't anything broken.

The main focus will be the new dire wolf monsters but there's also a small amount of new story content from the beginning of chapter two up until entering the goblin encampment. Some more monster types will be added to the encampment encounters as well.

Alpha Wolf battle WIP

Hey everyone! Small update on the wolf, he's been rigged and most of the battle and related scene animations are done. I just need to finish a few more then I'll get on to writing him some dialog and scripting out his scenes.

Alpha wolf

Hey everyone sorry for going quiet this month. I've been struggling with a few things but I'll still try to make progress where I can, probably monster art for a bit.

Updated the Monument zone

The archeology association has built up some new scaffolding for viewing the second tier of the monument. 

Aahh I really want to add an old man sitting up there that will talk your ear off and make hero fall asleep but that's not on the agenda right now.

I also want to update the platforms in the goblin camp to be less floaty but that will take some time to polish that level.

Beast Monument

Hey everyone! I'll be adding a new patron monument in the next build. Patrons that support at the Incubus tier at any time during the era of the beast (roughly during chapter 2 development) will be able to claim a spot on the beast monument.

Changes to the way rewards are delivered

Hey everyone just wanted to give you a heads up on a couple of changes I made to the Patreon. Since they updated the messaging system several months ago it made it more unwieldly to send out mass messages. From now on I probably won't send out messages each month.
