WIP - Vara, Ascendant Prophet

I’m going to try to imitate the art style of Hades, and make a deific Vara portrait. I’ve wanted to try this for a while, I ADORE all the character art in Hades so I feel like I can learn some things through imitation.

This is still very much a sketch, I’ll have to ditch my usual pencil style here and use thin black lines instead. That’s gonna be rough, I usually hide my messy lines behind layers of buildup and erasing.

Behind the scenes art peek time!

An unfortunate fact that I’ve become increasingly aware of is that symmetrical spiraling horns are incredibly difficult to draw at odd angles. In order to make life easier for myself, I’ve made this clay maquette of Vara’s head. That way when I’m drawing her, I can just turn the model to the angle I’m looking for, and copy how the horns look from there.

A Little Break - ft. Ell

This is some ‘thank you’ gift art for the amazing SuperGuest, who has been the coolest and friendliest person ever. I’ve honestly loved seeing Ell in art since long before I started drawing TF, so it feels right to feature her in a sequence now. Lately SG has been commissioning some absolutely incredible art with Vara, and that was all the excuse I needed to make some Ell art in return. 

Ambry - New OC

This is Ambry, a non-binary angel character I’ve been working on. I’m still working on figuring out how they fit into the world of Aphelion Red, but I’m forming some vague ideas.

WIP - Ambry

I told myself I’d take some time off after Teratober, but that did not last long haha.

This angel character has been stuck in my head after I first drew them on day 27. I imagine them as a non-binary angel, that has a sort of masculine upper body and feminine lower body. I’ve settled on the name Ambry, and they/them pronouns. I’ll have to come up with some more lore for them, I’m just starting to sketch things out now.

This drawing is based on The Shape of Water, one of my favorite monster movies. It was a tough choice between this, a xenomorph, and a Kaiju.

I enjoyed this one! I usually don’t do a lot of sci if stuff, so this was a fun experiment.

Had to include Vara in here somewhere.
Honestly I haven’t drawn nearly enough of Vara in her demon form. It was definitely a challenge to translate her to this inky style, since her design usually has so many soft color transitions. But I’m actually very happy with how she turned out!

Sammy & Ash - Speedpaint

Timelapse process video for Sammy & Ash.

This project was my first time trying a 3D model posing program for pose reference. It was an interesting new tool to try, I’ll probably use it for more projects in the future. Especially complicated compositions with multiple bodies at odd angles.

As usual, Jill was kind enough to give me some visual notes on ways to improve the poses. You can see her draw-over appear at a few points in the video.
