I've been noticing a fair drop in the local used value of the Mac Pro (2013). From $1,200 six months ago to about $800, and one as low as $500 (Canadian$). From what I see, the 2010/2012 towers are more desirable and retaining value, while the 2013 Mac Pro is actually becoming less valuable than the older towers on the used market. The Mac Studio 2022 may be a factor.
The ...

It has been a year since I launched the Patreon page and the response has been way more than expected. I thought I might get a dozen people, which I'd consider a success. Instead almost 100 have shown up to show their support. Much appreciation to all of you, and to show it, I am posting the full, (mostly) uncut Oil Museum Tour.
Now, realize that I've already shown the best bit...

2:1 in favor of a deeper TI-99 video. So, a video that is a little more in-depth and posted to public YouTube. Further investigation of the $300 NIB computer turned out to be false. The computer is in the box but very well used and missing all documentation. The owner is quite old and not trying to scam anyone. Just memories don't match reality sometimes.

I had a plan to make a short video for everyone here on some new retro computer stuff that I picked up at the end of August. It turned into a trunk-full of stuff and the video is now approaching 15 minutes with a 'Part II' planned. It's been a lot of fun making it, but it's time to call it done. It's now ready for voice-over (not-so-fun) and then it will be posted.
Meanwhile, I'm surveying the XServes for points of interest. Thanks to those who are offering technical advice. I may take ...

A G5 Server + Intel Server hand-delivered by Ian and Robert from the university in London, Ontario, along with the sound dampening enclosure. The enclosure was somewhat bigger than expected, but very solid. I’m told that mounting Xserves into an enclosure can be a frustrating adventure. Not what you would expect from Apple at that time. We will see how I make out mounting these servers, plus the G4...

So here's a weird thing. A heavy, beat-up box, wrapped in tape got dropped-off at a local workplace with no shipping information at all. It sat there as an eyesore for a couple months with no one claiming it, and it was decided to get rid of it. It appeared it might be computer equipment, so I got curious and took it off their hands.
A shipping-damaged 2U server.

A video of my most recent acquisition, which I got just last week! Let me know your personal thoughts and experiences on the Mac Mini. Also, let me know if I goofed-up any facts trying to make a video in one week. Maybe I will expand it to a larger public video in the future.
Denfield Hoard 3 has hit a few snags (although not as bad as Cannonball Run 3 did), so you deserve a bit of content in the meantime.

I don't really have the stomach for self-promotion, though I respect those who can and do. So, I find it amazing when I stumble across someone promoting my channel for me.
This was a podcast called "The Thing Is..". An unfortunate title since there are more popular podcasts using that same name. As a result, it's almost impossible to find it and I had the feeling there were more people on the show than in the audience. This episode called "Kodi and the Ponybros" was from May 2020....

I appreciate all the comments on the videos, the stories shared and the overall positive vibe. There are a small minority of negative or problem comments to contend with. Those fall into three categories:
1) Abusive - delete comment and block user from channel

2) Bot or Bot-wannabe - delete and report

In February 2005, an ad came up in the classifieds for "Old Macintosh Computers". This included IIsi, IIci, LCII, Powerbook 150 and others. I answered but apparently offered too little. The seller got offended and angry about it and further correspondence was going to be awkward, so I contacted him from another email address offering to buy them at the price he was looking for. He then flaunted it to...

Received from Alan Miller of South Carolina July 17, 2015.
I sent out a request looking for a 6100 on LEM swap and he was the only one who answered. He had 4, 6100’s in a pile under a table for years. He said a school used to call him whenever macs would be junked and he picked them up. He recalled filling his truck with 7100's at one time.
I asked him what he wanted for the 6100's, and he said Beer from Canada... Specifically IPA. Will do. The problem was I ha...

In 2010, I went to the local University where they were getting rid of a pile of 90's Macs. Mostly second generation PowerPC 7000 series. There was a lone Macintosh Plus (1990), and my contact said that his office got it as a 'donation' that he didn't really need or want, but took it anyway to be nice. It was in a blue foam compact mac carrying case with matching keyboard case. But, some 'donation'... the Mac Plus was trashed! One of the top vents was melted. And lots of child graffiti all ov...

Purchased from "BOB" in Sarnia for $25 Sept 5, 2005. For whatever reason, this was a model I really wanted to get at the time that the ad happened to pop-up. I contacted BOB and went to pick it up. BOB was underneath his truck working on something when I arrived, with a bunch of his friends standing around the truck. About the point I walked up, BOB cut his hand open. He came up from under the truck bleeding badly, saw me and said, "Go inside, my mom will show you the computer. I got to...

I got this Quadra 700 locally in June 2005. These are notes I took about the machine.

- 69MB RAM, 350MB HD
- CPU cooler installed on the processor
- Two missing port covers indicates it used to have Nubus cards as well.
- Macintosh Color Display also included, but very brown, mostly due to a previous chain-smoking owner (probably deceased). Removed the back cover to...

Anyone wanting to watch some great comedy should check this out. Guest, Ron McAdams, is very entertaining and graciously gives my channel a plug! The "mine video" he mentions is the Oil Museum video (I guess technically they were 'mining' for oil before the advent of drilling).

Apple didn’t do much interesting through the twenty-teens in regards to the Mac, so the release of Mac Studio was a surprise. After watching Apple wander in the desert with the Mac Pro strategy, hanging the 2013 and 2019 Mac Pro out to dry after they released it, I was not expecting a prosumer Mac. From 1999 to 2012, the prosumer Mac was the entry level tower. And that was great, because I liked the tower configuration. And then, with the release of the 2013 Mac Pro, there was nothing. Appl...

I had amassed a large Macintosh collection by 2014, but no real justification for having it. "Maybe I should do YouTube videos about them!". My vision was to do a model-by-model guide of each Mac like they did in Macworld Secrets. If you're going to do videos you need to have the vintage Macs to film, and I had no problem with that requirement. I had been collecting for 10 years by then. I've been a video hobbyist since the 80's, so I have the equipment and ability to do it. With that vision,...

Short videos about my collection and Backstory of my collection ran away with it. It seems it's all about the Macs! In response, I've been working on a collection video this week with hopes to be done within a week.
My process for making the videos fell short. Regular updates on what I'm working on showed low interest, too. I know some people like to be surprised by the topic.

In 1994, these were the products Apple decided were 'archived', which I suspect means they were too old to support repairs on. Not much Macintosh here, but interesting nonetheless. The thermal transfer Scribe printer has an amazing 2 1/2 pages of parts! And the Apple I is conspicuously missing!
