Render Progress!

Hey! The first of two render passes is ALMOST 1/3rd complete.  It's looking great so far.  Don't worry, the 2nd render pass (the hair) will go much more quickly.

In other news, I purchased that Paint Weights plug-in. It's going to be a sacrifice.  I am cooking my first of many rice & beans meal right now. ;)  But the software is FUCKING AWESOME!!!!  I will put it to work on the next animation. It's going to make the process so much easier.

YES!  What a haul.. But it's gonna be great when you see it.

In other news.. In the video above, starting at 1m44s you will see a newly released plug-in for my 3D software.  Paint Weights.  Wow!  This is going to save so much time when making new characters!  I am going to try to go into starving-artist mode eating nothing but rice & beans for a few (3?) weeks so I can afford to get this.

Meanwhile..  I will record the mocap for the next animation tomorr...

Animation Progress!

Wow... It's just about over. I spent yesterday trying to fix a problem with her pecs. I tried FOUR DIFFERENT methods without success. After getting up today I had a bright idea and the fifth idea worked. Excellent. I've just finished simming her breasts and her skin is now complete and ready for rendering. I just need to finalize the camera animation, lighting and a simple background.

Thanks for your patience everyone!  I have (almost) completely remodeled her cage mesh and also made a few improvements to her rig.  Time to transfer all of this to her skin again.  This will probably take all day.

I transferred all of the "meta" data to Yumi's final skin and put everything together.  It has problems.  I could hit the render button and send it out and it would be better than most of the stuff out there..  But it does not meet my quality standards.  And you all deserve better.

The problem was I thought I could use the same meta model for Yumi as she grew.  Turns out that was wrong.  The bigger she gets, the more deformation problems there are.&nb...

Animation Progress and What is Next

Okay! I believe all of the elements are now in place. Primary character animation is done and cleaned up, morphs are done. I just need to animate the flexing and growing values.. And then transfer all of this raw data to her final skin. If all goes well I should have rendering started by the 1st of November. It is a biggie.. Being around two minutes long we are talking around 3,600 frames of animation.

I think for the next few animations I should lower my sights some. I've been tryi...

Hey there hi there ho there!

Sorry didn't mean to call you that.  It's a Mickey Mouse Club thing.  I've finished cleanup on the motion capture and simmed the hair.  Attached is a little preview.  What remains is animating the hands, transferring the two new body shapes and... transferring this meta animation to her final skin.  Yeah.. A bit to go yet but getting closer!

I've got the motion capture data converted to Yumi's rig and I am probably over the halfway point of cleaning it up.  Getting there!  Attached is a rough preview of the first 8 seconds of this 2 minute animation.  You should easily be able to see that the motion captured movement is much more natural than my earlier hand-animated stuff.  Enjoy! :)

I've just finished cleaning up the raw motion capture data.  It was actually pretty simple to do.  The raw data was very clean.  And it looks so awesomely organic.  Right now I am transferring the mocap data to Yumi's rig.

Anyway I wanted to let you know that the last animation was just about 1 minute long.  This one is two minutes!

(sigh)  I put all of the motion capture gear on and recorded some sessions.  One for me, one for a friend.  The one for a friend exported just fine.  My clip did not for whatever reason.  Now I gotta go strap it all on again and re-record.

Release 34 Rewards Sent Out

Hello!  I just sent out the rewards for supporters of "Great X-PecTations Part 2."  Deluxe supporters will get their high resolution images and text document tomorrow.

Let me know if you had any problems getting the email or any other issues.

Also please let me know if you want to get a part 3 of the story.  I have some ideas of what could happen in a part 3 so let me know.  And if you have any compliments for the voice actor I will pass them along. :)

Release 035 - Yumi Grows More

In this animation, Yumi tries growing again and manages to surpass her previous size; by a considerable margin!!

This will be the first animation using my new Perception Neuron motion capture system.  Shipping this to me from China resulted in an unexpected $85 import duty fee.  So I probably will not be able to afford to hire a voice actor for this one.  But I will add sound effects and recycle sounds from the previous anim as well as use sounds that were cut from the previous ...

What's Coming Up

Hey all,

I should have Great X-PecTations 2 (illustrated and/or with voice if you opted them) in your hands tomorrow or the next day.  All I have to do is finish this last picture.  I'm sorry I am so dreadfully late on getting this stuff done.  I am expecting that my new motion capture hardware will greatly speed up the process in the future for animations.

Story Update!

Hey!

So yesterday there were some last-minute bugs that appeared in the audio player system.  It took the greater part of the day to fix everything but it's acting like a well-oiled machine now.  All of the audio and text is brought into the story reader program.  And I also expanded on the final scene.  Really all that is left is to draw one last picture at this point. :)

Hey hey!

I've just programmed up the system for playing audio clips in the story.  It's really cool!  It shows a little speaker icon next to the pertinent part and you can click to hear it.  If you want to try it out download the attached file.  It's basically the same content as the original story preview but with the added speaker button system.

Hey!  I got just all of the audio and chopped it up into 45 clips and added sound effects here and there.  Attached is a little sample.

What remains is to edit the code to my custom story reader program; adding audio buttons  throughout the story.  And then I need to make one last picture.  Getting close!

Great X-PecTations STORY UPDATE

Hey all,

I've just finished the first pass of the story.  After I get some rest I will go over it again and do any punching up or polishing it needs.  Then I have one (or two if you are willing to wait even more) more illustration(s) to make.  My lovely and talented voice actor is standing by for the final script.  Sorry it's taken me so long.  I think the late summer heat has been draining my energy levels.  I'm so happy things are starting to cool.

First test with Perception Neuron

Hey!  I'm working my way through the 3rd illustration for the story.  But I couldn't help but to do a test recording with the new motion capture gear!

You can see the results in the attachment.  It needs a little cleaning-up (but it won't get it as this is just a test), and for some reason the left forearm did not record.  I've heard it takes a few times to get all the kinks out of the process.  Anyway..  More to come!  Stay tooned!

First Hours with the Perception Neuron

This is all technical stuff so you can skip this posting if you don't care about the nitty-gritties.

So normally motion capture is super expensive because they use multiple cameras looking at balls stuck on a mo-cap suit. Thousands of dollars.

The Perception Neuron is the first mo-cap solution for the little guy. It is right at $1000. The reason it is cheaper is because it uses gyroscopic sensors like you have in your smartphone. No cameras.
