v0.3.1 coming soon

I will be releasing v0.3.1 soon, probably in early November. I call this a content update, which means it will not advance the investigation or the main story. Updates that significantly advance the investigation and main story will usually be bigger updates, hence this smaller content update will be called v0.3.1 instead of v0.4.

In v0.3.1, the main content will be the continuation of the questline for Riley the problem student, but there will be other content added as well.

Billing paused for September

I have decided to pause the billing for September, meaning you will not be charged on September 1st. I think it's the fair thing to do. I am still working on the game though, and this last week alone I've put in quite a few hours.  V0.3 will be released sooner or later -- but I'm still kinda in "vacation mode" when it comes to working on the game.

Status report

Work has been going slow lately, not surprisingly, it being summer and all. Also, I realized Elden Ring is basically Dark Souls 4, and I love Dark Souls, so I'm playing that now when it's not too hot in the apartment.

An August release of v0.3 is unlikely to happen. If I think I'm not working enough on the game, I will consider pausing payments, but feel free to unpledge if you think it's taking too long or whatever. When I do work on the game, I usually work a lot, but I also need time...

v0.2.0.7 had a game-breaking bug when Emma moves into the convent. Don't play from v0.2.0.7. If Emma's room is empty with no Leave button (turn off detective mode if you can't see her room), you have to use v0.2.0.8 and use a save from before Emma moves into to the convent (or start over).

No new bugs have come in since I released the last bugfixed version v0.1.1.2 on April 17. Now it's full focus on v0.2. I won't give any deadlines, but generally speaking to give you an idea of the time frame, I'm thinking something like a month. So possibly May, but could be longer.

Reminder about Charge Up Front

Welcome to all new patrons, and thank you for your support. 

Some of you who joined after I released v0.1 might not realize that if you are still a patron on April 1, you will be charged again. That's because everyone joining are charged up front (right away) and then also at the beginning of the month if they are still a patron. If you get charged twice like this and didn't want to, send me a message after April 1 and I will refund your March payment.

Version 0.1 – all patrons

Since this is the first release of the new game and I have not received any bug reports since I released it to $5 patrons, I'm now releasing v0.1 to all patrons a little early. Note that the detective code is only available for tiers $2 and above, and not to patrons still subscribed to the old, now disabled, $1 tier.

Status update

I'm in the final stretches now, playing through everything and fixing what needs fixing. If this was an update, it would only take a few days, plus time for spellchecking, but since it's the first release, there is much to fix and many considerations to be done on how to do things, like balancing aspects.

Busy, busy working on the game. As I said in a previous post, it's not impossible v0.1 will be out in March, and it still isn't, but given the amount of work still left to do, including the beta testing (see below), it's still only "not impossible".

Things are going well and I'm done with most of the groundwork now, and now it's basically tying everything together, tuning the game mechanics and polishing stuff in general, as well as adding some more content to flesh it out. Then before the release I also need to set up ways to export the text for spellchecking and stuff like that that's necessary to make things easier going forward. So there's still much to do but it's getting there. Let's say 80% done.

I'm suspending payments for next month because I don't like to go several months without something to show to you guys, and it's unlikely that I will release another test version before releasing v0.1 (first official release). Everything is slowly coming together, but right now it's like three steps forward, two steps back because for every new system or mechanic added, I often have to fix problems that arise. 

For one thing, to avoid bugs, I probably will have to disable the ability to go back in history because of the way my event system works. I might enable history within the current event if I can be sure it won't bug. To make up for the limited/non-existent history, the game will autosave everytime...

I forgot to change file paths from my local C: to the media folder for a few images, so they couldn't be loaded, like the icons for trust and authority. Tier change, $1 -> $2

The $1 tier has been removed and instead the lowest tier will now be $2. All of you who were on the $1 tier will still have all the same tier benefits you had -- for now, but once I start releasing official versions of the game, tier rewards will be exclusive for $2 and above.
