Towards the end of this little sequence, Cacia decided to get all bendy.  It was the first time I had ever witnessed her flexibility (but it would be something i would witness in many locations in the 18 months following this shoot, and so will you if you stick around!) I doubt Cacia could tell how perfectly her skin tone matched the paint of the empty room in my friend's brownstone, but I let her dance and move and act along that wall for as long as she wanted because I just loved the unplanned monochromatic perfection of the scene.

Behind the Scenes stuff from the little day trip my friend jess and I took to the far Southeast corner of California back in November 2015. We stopped at the Salton Sea and  Salvation Mountain before getting to the Algodones Dunes near the border with Mexico. It was quite a lot of sights for one afternoon!

The first time I worked with Cacia I was kind of floored by her movements and instincts - she was standing there stiff and awkward, she wasn't limited to "emoting sultry" to the camera - she was just in her own world. She was playing out stories and characters in her had, dancing, laughing, feeling.  I didn't want to miss a second of it....

I think everyone (at least those who can swim) feels more comfortable in water. Consequently when i have taken photographs of my friends, people who have no interest in modeling really, the simplest way for them to break past that barrier of being nude around platonic friends, or being photographed nude has been to take them to a pool.  Something about the water always feels more safe (a reminder of being back in the womb maybe?) and so friends who might otherwise feel unsure about disrobin...

Oddly, I have only rarely been able to photograph more than one person underwater at the same time that were at the same time very free, open, comfortable in water, and fascinating to look at.  While both Cacia and Zuri had their own ideas of underwater images they wanted to make during our skinny dipping day to the pool, it was also fun...

Work and Play - Cacia and Zuri

I had of course shot with Cacia many times (maybe more than 10?), but I had never shot with Zuri Deva before, and the two gals had never met.   I really think of my shoots more of just "activity days" (have fun at the pool, go on a road trip, go for a hike, play at the beach, etc) than photo shoots.  The shooting is just a way to commit the adventures to memory.   So I always have some trepidation of bringing more people (models or crew) into my shoots, since it will cha...

This was the second room of my friend's empty brownstone in Bed-Stuy that Cacia and I shot in.  The first room brought out the sultry side to her, but the green bath room took her down some notches, and things got a bit contemplative.
