Last month I had to go back to Hawaii for some meetings, and there I met Yuriko, who was in Honolulu to volunteer at the annual POW WOW! Rachel and I had talked about shooting together for quite a while and were just waiting for the lushness that comes with winter rains. Unfortunately they never really came. As soon as a one storm finally did arrive a month into winter we jumped on the chance to go for a hike.
This winter in Los Angeles has been a dreary one for me due to the drought - we have gotten a fraction of normal winter rains, which hasn't given me any chances to tromp around alone on the trail, shooting in lush wet greenery, and dipping into the chilly waterfalls that appear in the local canyons only during those heavy arctic winter storms.

Its hard to tell this was shot in late November 2017, the day was so perfect. Lucky for us as it was Anna's first time visiting the Palos Verdes coastline in Southern California.

Driving around the tiny island off Kurima, we found this little deserted beach and parked. I decided to explore a bit and walk along the rocks to the next cove, which found to be even more idyllic, and dropped our stuff down. my wife, Kozy, and I snorkeled around the bits of reef in the super warm water as the sun began to drift toward sunset. I don't mess around tooooo much with my images in Photoshop, but i have been turning a select image from certain lush local nature shoots (all these images were taken on the same local trail) into its fantasy alternate by flipping the green of leaves to a vivid fuschia. Some of the images are painstaking to make remotely believable, but now that the series is growing it feels worth the effort.
