Chapter 117 - TFF

The pain was more intense than Alan remembered it, but not enough to make him hesitate or give up. He had opted to start with his feet and go up. After the initial show of drilling into his toe bones, the rest went on smoothly. Soon, he was done with his left foot up to the knee, but the mana stone he had gotten from the System hadn’t dimmed in the slightest.

Time was irrelevant as he lost himself in carving his own bones using the pale werewolf blood. When both legs were done he move...

Chapter 116 - TFF

Alan felt a bit silly that he had forgotten to get some furniture, but Kalyntha and Zirida seemed to carry their own. Spatial items flashed and soon the room was equipped with three completely different chairs and a nice table. Alan provided some food and drinks, which didn’t go unappreciated by the women.

“Kalyntha, can I ask something?” Alan began. He was dying on the inside from curiosity.

“Sure! And just call me Kaly, we’re friends now!”

We are? Sure, I...

The walk back to the outpost was mostly uneventful. The group avoided the areas where the remains of those Kalyntha had brutally slain were left to rot and join the brown soil. Alan briefly wondered if the fractal’s landscape was colored the way it was due to all the spilled blood and guts, but that seemed unlikely. Plus, he was sure many didn’t bleed red.

“Welp, I can’t say I enjoyed the excursion, but I can’t say that I didn’t either. That girl creeped me out.” Byrr said...

Chapter 114 - TFF

At first, Alan was pretty confused, but after a few moments, the confusion turned into annoyance. He wanted to examine his new book and think through everything that had happened with the spirit. The title from Thorn hadn’t done almost anything but get him into the Bazaar until now, which in itself was technically one of the best things to happen to him. And now, it had given him another great gift – an opportunity to trade System choices for insane treasures. He was sure there would be t...

Chapter 112 - TFF

The yellow flowers were called Void Jessamine according to Byrr. He seemed to hold deep interest toward them, but still let Alan pick them and stash them away. The two guards were taking their roles seriously even here, not intervening unless it became necessary and not taking anything from him. Alan appreciated that.

Void Jessamine was used for poisons and tinctures with odd properties – an expensive ingredient for some alchemists and the guard assured Alan that he could get quite th...

NOTE: Starting the new schedule today! It's Friday-Sunday-Tuesday.

More waiting and staring at the depts of his mind the System had occupied didn’t bring forth any messages. It was frustrating as whatever he had done to the skill had been very effective against the tiny parasites. He did feel a bit worse for wear mentally, but exerting so much control over the skill had been draining, even if it came more naturally than ever before.

His eyes grew wide. Was that the ef...

It was almost too easy. It seemed that he had greater control over each process now, which was a welcome surprise. If it was brought on by the four-day-long meditation session and the vision, then he would make sure to repeat the process.

[Mana Zap] went off like a tiny black firework but fizzled out soon after as it went off very close to the bark covering the parasite. Alan frowned. He had expected this but it was still a bit annoying that the weird covering ruined his attemp...

Unfortunately, the elf called his buddy over too and the three of them made their way out of what appeared to be the eastern gate of the outpost, once again moving toward the creepy Bonez’s house. Alan was not too excited about having one babysitter, much less two, but it was what it was.

For the most part, the Byrr and Feyrith seemed happy to get out, unceasingly chatting about mundane things like other annoying guards and how bored they had been holed up on gate duty for the past mo...

Announcement

Hello, dear supporters.

I am writing this to say that I will be lowering the posting rate from 5 to 3 chapters a week, starting next Friday. I have yet to decide on the days as I have some RL factors to consider.

I understand if that's a deal breaker for you, however, I cannot continue at this pace if I want to work on other stories as well. Before TFF I had absolutely no writing experience. TFF was a way for me to get started, and it will always be special, but I cannot dedicate ...

Chapter 108 - TFF

The rattling was coming from the depths of the dark room and Alan carefully took a step forward, only to backpedal as something crunched beneath his foot.

“Hello?” he called again and took out a candlestone.

The light chased away the darkness only to reveal more bones. Piles and piles of bones, a floor covered in what appeared to be something like chicken bones… or others, different, left from meals long consumed. Who knew the guy’s name would be so literal? It was so over...

[Monochrome Armor] activated on its own, or maybe it didn’t. Alan didn’t care at the moment as he had become just an observer of his mind and body processes.

The change was immediate and strange. It started with his skin, making it paler, and colorless, but the shadows didn’t stop there. The change didn’t come from there alone. Something else stirred in his mind. A dark energy that terrified him, but also felt like it was him. It shifted constantly, bringing along a sle...

“We have a few options, considering your… disposition. We can enlist you as a guard, or a soldier. You will be tied to a chain of command and you will have certain obligations relating to that. The benefits are quite nice, including resources and personalized training by an excellent [Class Trainer]. I think a newly integrated and patronless [Warlock] like you would appreciate such a thing. However, in doing so you will not see your world for a while, and your freedom will be greatly limi...

“Oh, oh!” the gnome exclaimed. Various fruits, some of which looked almost dangerous to eat littered the small table between them. “Let me introduce myself, dear boy. My name is Wilbis Boombelch, a proud member of the Exploding Library and a passionate researcher. My expertise is wide, and my interests can blot out the skies. I like wine, cheese, and learning. As long as you don’t do anything to threaten the balance in the Outpost I am currently acting Master of, you have nothing to w...

Chapter 104 - TFF

Getting to the Outpost posed an actual challenge. The fighting was far from them because they were surrounded by rolling hills and terrain that offered little ways of traversing it. All of those challenges became less and less of a problem the closer they got to the large flat terrain that was the actual battlefield. And with a lot of curses and some slip-ups, mostly on Alan’s side, they made it to the bottom with only a few scrapes. There were a few smaller parasites along that were quickl...

Chapter 103 - TFF

The climb up was not as humiliating as Alan had assumed. She simply tied him to herself with ropes of blood and let him climb on his own. Alan was silently thankful that this time around she had shown some consideration for his manly ego, although the blood still felt weird. It was more effective than a regular rope because of the absolute control she had over it, but it was creepy.

At the very least this solution put an end to Xil’s mocking.

Alan found it quite difficult but al...

NOTE: Had a small personal issue. Sorry for the late post. I might edit it a bit more later, but it won't be anything major.

There was no time for explanations. but if the demon hadn’t reacted by canceling [Soundless] it would’ve probably been too late for them.

Zirida’s skin grew hotter in an instant. Alan briefly wondered if it was some body-boosting skill involving her blood, then held on for dear life as she began recklessly climbing toward the platform. There...

Zirida listened with rapt attention. She seemed interested in everything involving blood and [Ritual: Enchanted Bones] involved lots of blood. After all, it used it as a tool to dig up the bones much like she was doing with her swords and the rocks. Alan didn’t want to reveal the waterbags of werewolf blood he had taken from the dungeon yet but noted in his mind that they might be useful for trading in the future. The information on the dungeon would probably also be something of value to Z...

Note: 100! A bit of info dumps, but I hope it's not too tedious. Our boy has to learn.

Alan woke up with a start as something bitter entered his mouth and started burning on his tongue.

“She’s poisoning you! She’s poisoning you!” Xil’s voice echoed in his mind but Alan could barely think so soon after waking up. Every centimeter of his body was stiff. He struggled to open his eyes. Someone was holding his head in a way that left him no choice but to s...

NOTE: Happy New Year! <3

There was no treasure, just endless blackness.

Only Zirida’s glowing red eyes chased some of the darkness away. It was not that bad. It almost felt calming in a way, and Alan found out with surprise that he could see through the infinite black curtain around him. Just a bit, but it was something. Were his eyes better? Which attribute was that? Or was it something else?

The exhaustion made him stay silent, although he kept wondering why Zirida wa...

What the fuck?

Somehow the sight of the arrogant lisarni running away was more surprising than the surprise attack itself. Kalyntha’s corpse, or whatever pieces remained of it, fell around the now enlarged cave with a dull thud before disintegrating and becoming just piles of steel and iron chips, along with the remains of clothes.

The creature rushed forward and Alan flashed to the side, dodging one of the limbs that had gone for him. Alan took out [True Edge] and the ...

Alan relented. Zirida had given an oath and that was as straightforward as things got in the System world. And she had stopped him from getting his ass kicked. While Alan was ready for a scrap, he was unsure how he would fare against someone who had grown up with the System.

“It’s a curse I recently acquired. Today. It lets me mark creatures and then drain their life force to supplement mine.”

“Similar to one of my skills. The God of Blood is also known as the Lifegiver, b...

“What about the parasites?” Alan asked. Were they going to let the things crawl out and flood the valley?

“It’s fine, we need to let some grow so we can farm them for cores. The soldiers won’t let us get much from the frontline. Stingy bastards.” Kalyntha grumbled. Her orbs were still whacking the monsters down but with much less vigor. The number of crawling parasites was much lower too.

Alan sighed. He certainly wouldn’t mind some extra levels, but he was in no pos...

“I see. That girl might be another [Warlock] or a related class. It is not unheard of for certain classes to feel kinship, but it is more pronounced in those devoted to a god or sharing a patron. We have a [Warlock] at the outpost, I will introduce you when we make it and he can tell you more. I just need Zirida to okay you.” Kalyntha said after Alan told her how he had gotten into this mess.

He hadn’t spared much detail about the process of getting to the Fractal nor the things h...

Alan took one of the nearby paths and didn’t look back. Placing his mark on that huge parasite was a great gain and he was delighted as he now had a constant source of life force.

He kept walking for another few hours. Parasites were rare and in between but he still ran into a few groups; all had their tongues stuck deep in the ground. However, he had not run into any more lone stragglers, so he chose to avoid the fights for now. Getting drained of mana would quickly land him into a s...

NOTE: Have warm and happy Holidays.

The new monster moved with little care about the amount of noise it was making as its large body and the many legs attached to it made stones crumble and fall at each step. It was the same annoying color as everything else and its back and most of its body looked like a bunch of rocks glued together. If it curled and stood on the cliff, no one would be the wiser it was there.

Its legs had the same layer of armor, but it was only on the outside a...

Alan walked, hugging the rocks and following the weaving paths before him without much thought. He kept looking toward the sky and the cliffs, careful of any flying super monsters or parasites that seemed to enjoy mountain climbing. He would’ve loved fiddling with [Mana Zap] some more but he also didn’t want to stay in one place for too long.

The scenery didn’t change much. Hills and mountains and twisting little paths were both shrouded in the shadows cast by the tall environment...

AUTHOR'S NOTE: Thank you for the support. Enjoy!

Alan carefully stalked the creature making full use of the demon’s [Soundless] skill. He felt exhausted and oddly weak. The spell for his new curse was quite draining to his low vitality, which was worrying. At least it felt that way. He couldn’t be sure, but the blood drain for the mark had left him feeling much worse and he was sure it was not due to simple blood loss.

The creature finally made it down the rocks, each step as ...

Alan’s brain nearly short-circuited as he read over the skills. He was confused as to why the first was there again.

Pact (Epic)

Borrow strength from those who stand at the top.

He was not doing that for now, or maybe ever. Pact just sounded like more than a simple trade and a permanent connection to some unknown being was a terrifyingly bad idea for someone with his personality. Alan wondered if that meant he had commitment issues. Wh...
