Fatal Fury - WIP + Timelapse Video

Check out the timelapse here!

edit - if you're unfamiliar with the characters - These are characters from SNK's Fatal Fury(they're also in King of Fighters and some other titles) - they're Mai Shiranui, Terry Bogard and Andy Bogard. I was a big fan of all these characters having grown up playing the games as well as the Fatal Fury anime's being some of my first introductions to anime itself.

Color Pencil Process in Photoshop - video

Watch on YouTube - or - Download

Hey!

Here's a breakdown of my color pencil approach in Photoshop, the first chunk of the video is the basic approach followed by some of the Chun-Li process.

Chun-Li - High Res

Hey!

Here's the next in the, uh, Street Figher series? I don't know, I just started drawing Street Fighter characters and now I'm here, there's way too many characters for me to do them all, but I might do some more - or I might hop around to SNK characters - not sure! But anyway, there will be a video up where I explain a bit about how I'm achieving the color pencil/pastel rendering look - I recorded about an hour of this process, hopefully it's helpful!

Elena - Street Fighter III - layered PSD + printable file

Hey!

Here's the latest piece I worked up using that sketchbook style. In this approach I began by using the Kyle T Webster "perfect pencil" brush in Photoshop for the initial sketch & refinement sketch - after this I did the inks in Clip Studio using the attached inking brush - once I had that done I just dropped in some colors in Clip Studio, did a pass with s...

Digital Sketchbook Style - video w/full commentary

Watch it here on YouTube

Hey!

So, today I wanted to touch on how I'm doing those concept sheets for the manga. This style is mostly a sketch in photoshop with slight refinement followed by some colors done in clip studio with final adjustments completed in photoshop. I like this style and approach because of the speed and the final look of it all - it feels...

"Fuck You - A Basketball Manga" - inking style tests

Hey!

I was pretty happy with the concepts so far but I hadn't really hit on exactly how the comic would look in print with the inking style. What I had previously was more of a loose pencil/color pencil/marker style - but here I've been doing my best to channel a classic manga style akin to Inoue Takehiko. I'm going for this approach because I want this to feel very authentic but throw a curve ball with all the subject matter of the comic and how over the top it is, I think the semi-rea...

"Fuck You - A Basketball Manga" - Concept Art - 2

Hey!

So, here's the next round of concept for Fuck You - I needed to add more players to the team to get a handle on how to write them - it's very hard to write a character you can't see, so I tried to get some down to have a jumping off point for dialogue and character interaction.

So far I'm feeling really good about these - been tossing around a bunch of ideas between me and Dan(we write Steve Lichman together) - and I'm happy with the direction.

Looking forward to sharin...

"Fuck You - A Basketball Manga" - Concept Art

Hey!

We're finally here, we're back to comics and I couldn't be more excited - I'm working on the script for this one, got a ton down already and am just starting to concept out everyone in the series so I know the style/vibe for the whole thing. It's really important to nail down how this manga will look before I start, I don't want to be deep into this with the style suddenly shifting into something totally different.

So, these are some loose ideas I've come up with so far...

Ganon - it's done! - high res download

Hey!

It's done! Took me a bit longer than I thought but I'm happy with how he turned out. I really wanted to try and push myself with the smaller inking detail on this one. I've always enjoyed drawing all the little tiny coins, pages and ornate stuff in scenes like this - so I indulged a little and tried to see where I could take it with this style.

I hope that you like this one, feel free to download and print the attached high res file for yourself! This one just needs con...

My Goddamn Goodness, this Ganon.

Hey!

Man, this Ganon is taking too long, not sure what I was thinking doing this big of a pen & ink style piece hahah. I thought to myself it'd be relatively easy, the Link piece didn't take me too long. But I got it in my mind that I'd try and push and learn a bit more about how I can render forms using the lines alone, hence all the veins and muscle definition. When this is done I'm hoping it looks cool, I gotta make all this effort worth it!

I'm going to be releasing anothe...

Hope you're doing well and hello to all of the new patrons that just recently subscribed on here, I'm waving to you in real time. I'll be putting up another basics video tomorrow morning - but in the meantime, I wanted to share the current progress of the Asuka Langley piece I've been working on. Asuka - Evangelion - Underpainting

Hey!

Well, we're almost there with this one, it's ready to paint finally! I did a pretty thorough underpainting on this piece, I wanted to see if establishing so much of what was there in the original sketch(color wise) would help in the final painting - or just how much that may speed up my general process.

When I approached the Rei piece I went right into the colors without doing a very intensive sketch or even an underpainting like this. Most of what I did on that one was...

Asuka - lines complete!

Hey!

I wanted to share with you the current progress on the Asuka Langley - Evangelion piece I've been working up. For this one I really tried to get across the true look of the final piece in the lines rather than doing a lot of that work in the final painting(discovering the face style for instance - like I did in the Rei & Shinji pieces). So far I'm feeling pretty confident that this will have a pretty clear and strong execution when I move into the painting phase. I'm not entire...

Mega Man Legends - High Res Files

Hey!

Well, here's the final Mega Man Legends piece! I'm happy with it, learned a lot working through it all. This one was purely to fulfill my childhood dream of just putting together a big Mega Man piece, I was always big into the style and grew up loving all the games. Mega Man Legends in specific always stood out to me as such a solid universe and the designs throughout the series are so consistent.
