I had been giving a lot of thought to what I wanted to do for a cover for the Waystone book I intend to print (hopefully sometime this year) and after some experimentation with thumbnail sketches, I decided that it would be best to keep it nice and simple- a pinup featuring Tsenaya's butt! An update on Champagne! Not much correction work had to be done since the thumbnail came together so well, but I'm glad I was able to maintain that cocky smirk on her face. As Bernal said, she looks like she's thinking "I'm gonna empty this one's wallet" and I freaking love it!

Jasper and Kaila's uniforms keep evolving! Now you'll notice that Jasper has a name-patch and rank attached to his overalls. We can't see Kaila's but she's got a jacket with all her patches and insignia on it (they're both Second Engineers, in case you were wondering).

For a while there I was sure option A was gonna win- but B squad pulled through in the end. In fact, the throne you see on this sketch has been changed a lot since I finished the sketch, so the Emperor will be getting an upgraded version in the final image.

It's nice to get a chance to develop these two a little bit more and show their personalities before we move into the next bit of the story that involves Tsenaya. Carrying on from the re-done final page of Pride in your Work, Kaila's slight prejudice for the young jackal girl pops out again when Jasper expresses his concern at her lack of concentration.
