I’m thinking to do an AMA type stream! So if you want to know more about how I animate and etc, this might be your chance- ask any question here in the comments.
Or top 10 anime betrayals, best space opera, the answers to your math homework. (It will probably be wrong) If I get enough of them I'll gather all questions from various corners of the internet and answer in a future announced Youtube stream.
A tricky and time-consuming shot, to be sure!
181 frames at 22 fps! I'm at the point where if I never see this shot again it'll be too soon, haha!
Anyway, onto the next shot!

Three art batches and an animated trailer, not bad for just the first half of the year. (Batch 1 shipped in Jan 23 so I'll count it.)
These summer images are on route to the printing house so be sure to have your address updated if needed or sign up to Elite Tier to qualify for your set.
Also curious, what other collectables do you want to see in the future- calendar, art book, hat? Maybe I'll finally convince Otaking on that body pillow, hmm...comment below!

Someone parked a mining vehicle in the way. That's a relief.

Hello, hello!
Hope you're all doing well! Here's a quick shot of our dear friend taking a trip through an airlock. I'm sure he'll be fine though!
The alien in this shot is only 18 frames, so quite a break from the 50+ frame walking alien shots I've been doing recently!

A happy and pleasant weekend to you all!
More of a closeup walking shot this time. I'm pretty much shading aliens non stop right now, so plenty more to come.

Here's our boy coming out of the kitchen after a midnight snack.
As you can see, I sketch out all the individual parts of the alien on different layers to keep it all clear in my brain, since it is one complicated fellow! Maybe the most complicated character design I've animated, I reckon.
Anyway, I'm powering on!

Sometimes, you wake up on a Monday and this is the first thing you see.
Miserable. Just miserable.
On the plus side, this shot came out pretty good!! I actually quite like the shading and the dripping slime on this one.

Sometimes, blowing an alien into space just doesn't work out on the first try. It's important to believe in yourself and not give up!

A good weekend to you all!
Here's another shot of the alien, who I am affectionately referring to as "Large Fellow."
The work continues apace!

We did it lads! We posted it in time for Alien Day!
Just a little bit more shading, a little post edit, oh and a little ADR by the voice actor to add breathing and sfx. What do you think? The trailer was directed by Producer Maki and Zak did some rather spooky music for it.
Oh, and also, there's a livestream tonight if you'd care to join me! - https://youtube.com/user/OtaKing77077/live
Oh, hello there!
We're hard at work on the Monday trailer, but I took some time over the past couple of weekends to mock up this fake game (and accompanying news footage).
I've always been a fan of the early 90s-era of 3D polygon arcade titles like Virtua Racing, Starblade, Steel Talons etc, so I opened up Cinema 4D and tried my hand at modelling some (hopefully) authentic-looking very low-poly models.
In the process I learned how to make things explode and how to do laser beams i...
Just an update that prints have been mailed out! Prepare your bodies for their arrival!
Also thought it would be cool to share some fantastic 3D modeling by Marcos Hidalgo of Technician Ashlin from the Monday project. Apparently made in Z Brush, if you want to check out more of his work: cults3d.com/en/users/TopoSolitarioCrafts/creations
This is the first fan art of Monday, so prett...

Hello, hello!
It's 05:35am and here's another alien shot. You wouldn't think that under three seconds of finished footage would take over a week to finish, but I may have gone a little far with the shading in a few places...
As always, final composite will have some steam and whatnot on top for added ambience.
Luckily, this one was only 36 frames. I have some absolute 100+ frame monsters coming up at 24fps, so I'll take all the prayers you wish to offer up on my behalf...!
I'll...
Hello, hello!
Well, I caught the Covid. Hurrah! It's not gonna slow me down though!
Actually, that's a lie. I've been spending most of the week in bed coughing and sleeping and coughing. But anyway! Here's another xenomorph.
When we're compositing the film together at the end, I'll add some smoke and steam effects and this should look pretty good, hopefully!

A very happy weekend to you all!!
Oh look!
As you might be able to tell from the process video, these things are rather time-consuming to animate because they have a lot of details on them. This is about as much as I could simplify the design down, and that's still a whole lot of lines on each frame. Then of course there's the shading on top of that...
Ideally I'd like Guyver or Urotsukidoji levels of creature detail on each frame, so I have a lot of reference photos open...
Starting since last December, Elite tier is receiving double prints til Summer 2023. And don't want to be official yet, but hint: there's a special day in April where a small something special might be dropping and we really hope you enjoy it.
Are you enjoying seeing character led art or would you like the last batch to be geared towards the mechanical/ship details?
Mailing details to be confirmed ASAP, as soon as prints come in.

If you love animation and want to imagine what it’s like working independently, here's a sample of how the work week can play out. We thought it might be of interest since the animation log was well received.
Speaking of which, production is reaching that part of the log where we only have "BIG GUY" slots left to work on. I thought to open suggestions and ask you all if there's anything else you'd like to know about Otaking or animating- just comment down below.
Oh! Also dou...
Hello, hello! And a very happy Lent to everyone observing it!
Here's a couple of previously posted shots, but with an engine room/reactor shot I just finished. You know how I like animating machinery and pistons clunking into place.
Also, Producer Maki has been working on directing the trailer for the film, and that's looking pretty tasty. So we'll have that to show you soon. It's looking pretty spooky, to be honest!

Hello!
I just finished this and thought you might like a look at how I do my backgrounds. So, for this one I took a screencap of the 3D model of the ship I built:

Next up, I used that as a basis and inked over it in Photoshop, adding plenty of details to the simple boxy shapes:

And then i...

A quick bit of shouting for February. Thanks to Producer Maki for fixing the timing and faces on this one! We ended up adding in the zoomed out still shot on the last word to spice the scene up a bit as well.
It's all coming together!

Hello there!
Here's a bunch of backgrounds I've been working on this week. I've also completed three or four shots of animation, so a pretty productive few days on the whole.
I hope you've all been doing well and avoiding the icy chill of winter. I got this massive thing for Christmas that's basically a duvet with arms and a hood, so I've been bundled up with that and a hot water bottle when I work and having a pretty cosy time animating. Although I can see my breath when I ...

Oh, is that image a shot from the trailer with a fancy magazine in it? Could be~
Anyway, here is a link to our current Monday production status:

The log shows various stages of the animation process and without it I've witnessed varied hallucinations of "this will be easy and quick"...it's an illusion, I tell ya! Besides time estimates, it's also helpful to keep small notes on changes and tracking cer...
We're entering the start of preproduction for a Monday trailer!
I, Producer Maki, take responsibility for this image as brainstorming led to needing a magazine that related to a detail in the script. The idea is a slow zoomed in pan shot that focuses more on the surface texture than the object.
So I got Otaking to draw what the stream chats have been begging for all this time, and shall never see. I designed the cat girl with palette and chose the references for cover style. I...
My internet speed is absolute trash at the moment. 1Mb upload speed??? If you remember the days of dialup, waiting for an anime picture to load one line of pixels at a time, that's what it's like. But hopefully this little progress clip will upload in the next 12 hours and you can see how these few shots are coming together! The shading guide and the torso after pencil was roughed out by Producer Maki, incidentally.
It's actually my birthday today, so I'll be having some kind of birthd...
It looks a bit lonely out there!
I might go back and add more detail, slap on a few more layers of parallax later, but for now it's onto the next few scenes. I hope you all had a wonderful Christmas, and hopefully a very nice New Year in a couple of days.
Don't do anything I wouldn't do!
