No dogs are fighting in this video, however.
I'm trying out a bold new technique here: instead of using my weird framerates of anywhere between 15-20 fps, I'm doing what the animation industry has done forever in this one and using a mix of 1s (24fps) and 2s (12fps).
I think that's why a lot of the youtube comments on Alien: Monday were going on about how weird the animation looked. They're used to seeing the commonly accepted framerates and anything above that looks weird to the ...

Well well!
I do really like doing animated shadow and lighting effects on top of still shots, you know? Sometimes that's just what you have to do.
It's quick, but effective!
Also I'm gathering some options for the next postcard poll. I'm not sure what everyone's familiarity with retro anime or sci-fi is on here since we have a wide variety of people. Please remind me in the comments what genres of TV, movies, games you're into so I can work it in for future prints.

Well well!
OK, so we finally blew the rebel station up. I drew all the individual background pieces of debris and then added all of the scorch marks and airbrushed the wrecked bits.
Here's the background itself:
I then animated the ships and flames and explosions on top.
As always, Vader's fleet is just chilling in the distance not helping at all.
For detailing "battle ...

Hello there and a happy Halloween!
This sequence will receive a few touch-ups: the pilot at 0:02 needs some lines drawing on his vest thing and we need MORE FIRE at 0:11, but it should give you an idea of how things are progressing! I also want to add a quick cut of the pilot flipping some switches and the engines powering up, of course.
You can thank Maki for the smoke at 0:02 when the metal walkways smash into the ground, and the sparks as the debris hits that parked Y-Wing in t...

Hello there!
Well, we had to blow it up eventually. This six seconds is 92 frames long and took quite a while to do due to having to animate all those explosions! I might add more detail to the platform itself - tiny bits of debris flying, etc.
It was fun tracking down various large space stations blowing up in classic anime and seeing how they did it. As always, Project A-Ko came in very useful for reference here (might take a moment for the gif to load, but worth it):

Hello!
I'm working on a couple of shots at the moment and thought to show you the backgrounds for them. The one above actually has a bunch of animated elements on top of it in the finished scene - there are walkways falling down, debris raining down, explosions outside, a pilot running up the yellow ladder, etc. The A-Wing on the right has an animated canopy that closes (that's why I didn't draw it on the background itself).

Another scene in the bag!
I think that once you've got TIE bombers this close and shooting at your station with their little pew pew laser cannons, you've probably really screwed up somewhere.
As an interesting(?) aside, I was debating with the TFTC game team about where exactly the laser cannons are located on a TIE Bomber. I don't think you ever see one firing shots in any of the movies or media, and there aren't any cannons on the model used for filming Empire Strikes Back (see b...

Oh, hello!
I thought you might enjoy a behind the scenes look into what went into making the finished artwork.
The process typically looks like:
1. I draft a sketch
2. Maki checks and revises
3. I send Maki a colours draft
4. Maki checks and revises
5. I apply changes, go back in and polish off all the details
6. It's goes to print and then Maki mails them out
Btw, they should be arriving to you this week!
So I started with this sketch:

Hello there!
Fistly, if you're reading this on the East coast of America when it's published, I hope you're keeping safe from Hurricane Helene! I'm actually in Atlanta at the moment and it's really coming down outside. It's pretty exciting and apparently it hasn't even really gotten going yet.
Anyway, here's a couple more shots I just finished. Beware there are 4 impact flashes. The strafing shot is short but, as always, took ages to do because there are so many elements layered o...

Hello!
A quick sequence for this week of everybody's favourite Xg-1 Star Wing Assault Gunboats disabling the rebel platform. As anyone who's played TIE Fighter will know, those ion cannons come in really handy! Electricity is also very fun to animate, it turns out.
I did this in the same way that 80s movies used to do electrical effects. We were watching Predator yesterday and, since this was before mainstream CGI, some poor guy had to manually hand animate at 24 frames per second...

Here's a typical day on the mining vessel Thanatos. Let's hope nothing bad happens to them!
As always, layout by me and Maki, anatomy fixups and colour grading by Maki, final illustration by me. This print will be flying out to all of you in the Elite tier soon, so please make sure your addresses are correct so that yours doesn't go spiralling off into deep space.
Working on this made me realise how much I enjoy doing concept art-style backgrounds! I used to paint tons of them bac...

We thought it might help to show what projects are on the roster!
As you may remember, a mech project was proposed before Alien: Monday. You can view it here: https://youtu.be/pJKnZCSNqeY?si=7bacH928sAM3vaS-
It doesn't have an official title yet, and we've been brainstorming the story and visuals over the summer, as well as trying out some 3D techniques for the machines themselves. We're al...

Well, RIP to those X-Wings, I guess.
This is a really quick shot, but took quite a while to do because so many individual elements had to be animated. The X-Wing is 3D but everything else is hand animated and there are a few smoke trails going in and out of explosions, debris flying about etc etc...
Anyway, on to finishing the postcard.

The results are in, and it seems that most of you want an original piece of MONDAY art! So I shall get right on that!
On an unrelated note, I'm actually in the US at the moment and good lord, the heat! How do you survive it?? The sun's finally going down though, so Producer Maki and I will probably head to this nice little late night Korean cafe and brainstorm some postcard ideas for you over a waffle.
I hope none of you are melting in this weather!

Hello! Thank you for the 1.2 million views!
Alien: Monday has been translated into 5 languages (7 if you count reuploads) and pretty cool that many viewers found it valid to be tagged as "horror".
I thought to share some art Producer Maki made in the book and the explosion section. It was one of my favorite parts to work on being influenced by scenes from Iczer-1, Bubblegum Crisis and Project A-Ko. The artbook comes included with the 4K version of Monday, so check out the Elite me...

Here's some more TIE bomber stuff. The fun part is going to be animating all the destruction when the missiles hit. I always liked how you could target enemy subsytems in the TIE Fighter game (I would always missile a space stations laser turrets first) so I wanted to get that in there too.
Also almost 2 more weeks til the Monday premiere. I'm setting it up so I can have an open chat on Youtube and you can give me your real-time thoughts!

How are you all?
Every update we get from our mysterious sound engineer is super exciting, as he's layered and mixed in more sounds and it's really bringing Monday to life.
In the meantime, here are some pilot shots for the TIE bomber. It even has the big elongated interior with some seats for passengers at the back.
I'm currently animating some missiles and will show you more in the next update!

First off is a short transformation sequence to celebrate the launch of TVPaint 12. I was inspired by transformations like Tekkaman Blade, The Guyver etc, and wanted to try something a bit different and challenging by having the character jump off a very high place and incorporate a fancy camera rotation - Paul
And now over to Producer M...

I do like animating explosions. And here's how I do it! It's amazing what a difference some impact frames make.
Project A-Ko is a really great reference for 1980s anime explosions:

As sound work continues apace for the Monday film, animation likewise continues for the TFTC opening cinematic! Here's the latest few seconds.
I'll post some really big explosions next time. Maybe a "how it's made" style video showing the whole process of animating explosions if you'd all be interested in that?

Here's another few scenes that I just finished for TF Total Conversion. There are a couple of bits I need to fix up (the TIE cockpit POV shot wobbles too much and actually scrolls off the top of the screen at 1:19 ) but this should give you a feel for how things are flowing along. Next is a big bombing run on the rebel platform, so lots of TIE Bomber stuff!
Music and SFX are moving along on project Monday. I'm thinking of doing a Youtube premier so we can all watch tog...

As we await sound design and music on the Monday film, I'm back to animating the intro cinematic to TIE Fighter Total Conversion. Welcome to Galaxicon 2263!
I read a variety of opinions and results on the last poll so I fit in as many sci-fi series as I could first think of! Hopefully you like it and can recognise at least half of the ships on display. F in chat for Maki's composition. She had all these sports presenter-style circles and lines showing how certain ship formations lead the eye to a central focus... which I then ruined by just adding more stuff.
The way I see it a galactic convention would give ...
