This is the speedpaint for this week! I was almost behind schedule cause I needed to transplant my computer to a new case and whaddya know my 8 year old water cooler died! Well if it was ever gonna happen of course it had to happen now eh!
Anywho everything is fixed and ready to go so now issues! everything back to normal!

*Note I try to keep the process pics to 10 images each post since Substar doesn't allow more than that, in this case each piece I did has a couple of process shots instead of focusing on just one! :)
So this time I tried doing one study in just black and white and I really did not vibe with it. Not sure if it's maybe my brush or perhaps the lighting wasn't strong enough because painting in black and white felt super boooring!

So this week I wanted to get a bit more involved and made my own references! I figured, I have legs, why not make them myself? It can be exhausting looking for the perfect reference!
I think this is exactly the type of research and practice I needed! I experimented with some different brushes too but mostly focused on the anatomy of the legs :D

I have never painted a person in lighting like this before but it was fun. I think this is one of the few pieces I've done that really benefited a lot from some small filter additions at the end.
One of the main things I learned from this was how colours transition. For example, the method I first used to colour skin was to stay on the one colour. To communicate shadows and light I only went up and down the saturation ladder of that one colour!

In retrospect maybe choosing more variety would have been a better idea and would have kept it more engaging, looking at it now I see there's only 1 that's a more unique angle, the rest are kind of all the same direction? Hope you enjoy! This is quite a first for me, I have watched a few colour study tutorials but never put it into practice.
To approach this I chose a picture with some fun subject matter that was interesting to me. The colours are pretty bold but you can also see how the pink lighting terminates and moves to a teal blue.

aaand the process pics of my Neeko redraw! Man that water took a bit of practice but I am super stoked with how this whole piece turned out!
