SS - Chapter 33 - Working Hard

So... RavensDagger has posted this years SCS writing challenge (no contest this year) and the theme is: SCS and other fiction crossover. Which other fiction? Well, any other fiction.

Now, here's the thing... I've kind of wanted to do a pokemon fanfic for awhile now. Not a super serious one, just for fun (yes, I still enjoy pokemon). My favorite type is bug, and that was going to be part of the theme, so when RD posted the challenge I got thinking... Antitheis, are plant typ...

Book 4 - Chapter 60 - Dead End

As soon as the lizard-spider went down, we immediately rushed forward. Even though I had a pair of Kodiaks keeping the Thirty-Two harassing the Thirty-Two, and keeping it somewhat pinned down, no one wanted to give the monster a chance to escape.

The pair of Kodiaks which I’d sent through the buildings weren’t a complete loss, with all the safety features they were practically indestructible, but these two weren’t going anywhere. Even though the engines had been ripped up, and the...

Imaginary - Chapter 18 - Torn Asunder

“Define something,” I replied blankly.

“Come on, you know what I mean,” Olivia whispered. “I can feel the instability in the area, and it’s increasing fast… there’s a rift coming.”

I hopped off my bike, and shoved it into the bike racks before helping Oliva off her own. Her face was pale, and her hands cold and clammy, and the way she doubled over after she slipped off her bike made me afraid she might be seriously ill.

“Are you okay? Should I take you t...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 59 - Thin Air

We broke through the last wave of Antithesis and emerged on the surface somewhere in the middle of High River. The Thirty-Seven must have sent a team to dig itself an emergency exit, because I was pretty sure there hadn’t been a twenty meter wide tunnel sitting right in the middle of the town earlier. I probably would have noticed it.

As my eyes adjusted to the natural light I glanced around, trying to spot the oversized brain. It had only made it about three blocks away, slowly being...

Wombat's Writing Index - June 27, 2025

Didn't get this out last week because I was distracted by work stuff, and it wasn't necessary.
This week both TBoB and SS have rolled over to new files, so they've been added.

Enjoy,

SS - Chapter 32 - Scattered Seeds

“Hup! Hup hup hup. Hup… hup hup,” Alex, the little head maid, said before nodding, satisfied with her explanation.

She’d been speaking, and pantomiming, for the last two minutes trying to explain why she and the other maids had collapsed the dungeon. Unfortunately, since it was late in the day and we wanted to get back before we completely lost the light, we’d been walking back during the explanation and I’d only managed to grasp about five percent of the explanation.

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 58 - Slow Speed Chase

As soon as it was safe to step on the acid we took off in pursuit of the Thirty-Seven. It would have been easy to catch it, if it wasn’t for the wave upon wave of Antithesis that threw themselves into us.

“How can there still be so many Antithesis down here,” Amy whined. “We didn’t encounter a single one on our way down, and now they’re pouring out of every single tunnel we pass.”

“The Thirty-Seven did a good job of keeping them out of sight, but I didn’t ...

Teddy gets a theme song!

Hey all, exciting news today: There is an official Teddy Bears on Brigade song!

Kuroi, the one who created the Kill-buy and Maniac SCS songs wrote an entire SCS related album. Not only that but there are songs for Teddy, Hive queen, and Tinea and Leah, in there! I wanted to post a list to Kuroi's livestream, but there wasn't a link until right before it started, sorry.

Anyways... the album is now up on Spotify, and it should be up on Kuroi's you tube soon ™  Sorry, ...

SS - Chapter 31 - Fallen Foes

“Anyone have a light?” I heard Camille quip somewhere in the pitch black room.

I sighed to myself before holding out my hand and summoning half a dozen candle sized flames. With a quick flick of the wrist I sent the tiny flames flying into the darkness, having them hover in several different places around the room. The flickering purple flames didn’t provide much illumination, but they were enough to break through the gloom.

“What happened? Why’d everything go dark?” S...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 57 - Counterplay

Tiny bit shorter than usual, but considering the content it felt like the right place to end it.

Also, I heard back from the recruiter yesterday, and I didn't get that interview. I'm not going to lie and say I'm not really disappointed, but there's nothing I can really do about it... Since I don't have to cram for an interview anymore, we're back on double chapter releases again!

I'm starting to run low on funds, but I can send out resumes and practice skills on the...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 56 - Subterranian Escalation

As I stepped back there was a loud crack, followed closely by half another more, as the thick wall anchors snapped and the massive wall was hauled across the room. As soon as it came in contact with the Thirty-Four the thick metal was quickly ripped apart by its mass of churning legs.

“Okay, maybe walls weren’t the best idea,” I muttered, as I backpedaled from the rapidly deforming defensive barrier. “Nyx, give me two badgers, right on top of that thing.”

Done. ...

Schedule this week

Hey all,

As I mentioned on Friday I may have a job interview this week, along with a couple skill evaluations.

After spending two years writing, and not programming, my skills are a little rusty and I need a little time to brush up. I've been working on it over the weekend, but it hasn't been even close to enough for me to feel confident.

So... starting today, and for the rest of the week, there will be no 'free' chapters. No Sovereign Stones and no Imaginary. I'm not ...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 55 - Emergency measures.

I barely had enough time to register that I was hit before the vine tether tensed up, ripping me off my feet and pulling me towards the massive fern hiding in the corner of the room. I’d seen what the Thirty-Four-C had done to a fucking armored vehicle, and I wasn’t exactly eager to experience that for myself.

“Nyx, Axe!” I screamed, twisting my body as hard as I could. I just barely managed to grab the thick tether with my left hand, wrenching myself around just as the weapon m...

No Chapters Today!

Sorry guys, no chapters today. I was contacted by a job recruiter yesterday, with a possible job. I need to update my resume, check on my references, and find some exercises to brush up on my skills. According to the recruiter if I'm chosen for an interview things will move fast.. so I need to be prepared.

If I do get that interview writing may be a little inconsistent next week. If not, expect more of the same. I'll keep you informed either way.

SS - Chapter 30 - Guardian

“Everyone’s okay? Gabriel?” I asked once the creatures had been defeated. I made sure that I kept one eye on the monsters which appeared to be dead, but weren’t dissolving.

“I’m good,” the big man gasped. “Thanks for the assist. I think that thing was only a couple seconds away from finding a way through my defenses.”

“I hate the overgrown apes, they learn and adapt far too fast,” Camille muttered quietly, as she leaned down to retrieve her bow. When sh...

TBoB - Book - Chapter 54 - Blockade

As soon as we deviated from the path set out for us, and started heading towards the ultrasonic source to the west, the situation immediately changed.

The Antithesis flooded into the tunnels, charging at us from every possible angle. They weren’t exactly difficult to dispatch, the waves mainly consisted of the early models with a couple teens mixed in, but the sheer number of Antithesis really bogged us down.

“How can there be so many of these ankle biters down he...

SS - Chapter 29 - Ravaged

“We’ll take a break here,” I announced through ragged breaths.

“How big is this dungeon?” Selena asked as she leaned on the wall. “I thought most of them were between five and seven rooms, this is our tenth!”

While the rest of us slumped to the floor, Camille continued bouncing around, snapping up the stones from the defeated beasts. “I dunno, I’ve heard they’ve found some dungeons that are twenty rooms, or more, long. From what I’ve heard they were pre...

Book 4 - Chapter 53 - Misdirection

So... not only did this take much longer to get done than usual, but I found that it didn't post properly. Huzzah!

Sorry for the late post. Dunno if my ADHD meds aren't working as well the last week or so, or if I'm just so distracted about the upcoming steampunk based DnD campaign I'm in this friday... probably both.

Starting on SS now, hopefully I'll be able to get a chapter done tonight.

Even after the bears and I took care of the ambush, the s...

Imaginary - Chapter 17 - First day jitters

“Are you sure you have everything you need?” my mother asked as I pulled on my shoes.

It had been a long time since she’d been around to see me off to school in the morning. Back at our old place she was almost always pulling double shifts, and gone before I even got up, or sleeping late to recover. Right now she was practically vibrating as she hovered around me, barely restraining herself from double checking all my gear.

“I’ve got it all,” I promised, a small ...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 52 - The Depths

The tunnels were way too quiet.

After that early ambush we only encountered a handful of scattered packs wandering through the tunnels. Consisting of no more than half a dozen Antithesis at the same time they were so laughably weak that most of them died before I even spotted them.

After encountering the fifth such pack, and no other resistance, I started to get ancy.

“Alright… What's going on here? Even if there were a fucking herd of Model Seventeens down here I doubt ...

SS - Chapter 28 - Hog Wild

“Do we leave our bags here or…” Selena asked, as the rest of us busied ourselves with changing into our armor and powering up our weapons.

“In the duchy we typically left most of our gear with the guards, and one of the supporters carried our supplies,” Camille explained.

“And you think that’s wise, trusting someone else with your gear?”

Camille paused, and looked up at the other girl. “Although I can see why a mercenary would be hesitant trusting the...

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 51 - Tempting

It turned out that removing Bob from the street was a lot more difficult than expected. He was constructed from such dense materials that it was difficult for any of the other bears to move him, even in the most optimal conditions. Having him wedged in the ground just made things ten times worse.

In the end it was easier for him to go down, than it was to pull him up. It only took a couple minutes for the bears to hack the street apart with their entrenching tools, slowly widenin...

Sorry it's a little late today, but I'm going to be playing DnD with a couple of the other SCS fanfiction authors, and we talked about characters today. It's been so long since I played, I'm so excite! I may have got a little distracted, but I got back on track eventually.

Enjoy the chappy!

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 50 - Neighborhood Watch

When I finally pushed my way through the last of the scrub brush, emerging onto the broken down street, I couldn’t believe how devastated High River looked. Most of the houses had collapsed in upon themselves, leaving nothing more than piles of rubble, and even the brick and concrete commercial buildings seemed to be sagging with age.

Even though High River had been abandoned for years, and Bob was doing his best impression of a wrecking ball a couple streets away, this level of...

Well, good news is they're still in my gdocs, safe and sound. The bad news? My computer froze while I was writing, and when I restarted it... It couldn't find windows.

No, I'm not joking. No, I have no fucking clue how that happened.

I'm in the middle of reinstalling windows, so hopefully I'll be back up and running soon, but I very much doubt Ill get chappies out today.

With a little luck I might get the SS chapter I was working on out, but TBoB, very unlikely.

TBoB - Book 4 - Chapter 49 - Riverside

The Antithesis knew we were coming. That’s the only explanation I could come up for when I saw the wave of gribbles that had poured out of the abandoned town just before we arrived. It wouldn’t have been a problem if the hive had just been pumping out the rank and file, Threes through Sixes. The problem was this one had the ability to birth Thirties.

Even if it found creating those massive monsters slow, or difficult, it had no problem pumping out twenties to defend itself.

“Mom, your back!” Olivia called, jogging over to the tall blond woman unloading a dark blue pickup truck parked in the street outside her house. The woman stood up straight, a bright smile on her face.

“Olive, I didn’t expect to see you out and about. I thought you wanted to spend the day relaxing in your room,” the woman asked.

“That was my plan, but not long after you left, a family moved in next door,” Olivia explained, turning and gesturing towards me. “T...
