Dare to Scare UNCUT: Clive Barker's Undying

Those of you who have listened to the podcast will know what this is, and it's something I've been toying with for two years now. The general idea is this: I play a horror game for about an hour, hour and a half, and see if it can scare me. I talk about what I think makes it scary (or doesn't). I then cut the video down to only the relevant bits and put that out.

It's kind of a Let's Play, but also kind of not, and that's the point. I wanted to play horror games and talk about them WITHOUT the...

Dare to Scare (INTRO)

I guess it's official. My Halloween Youtube series is called Dare to Scare. I have the first episode recorded and mostly edited. Turned out a lot better than I thought it would. Currently clocks in at about 38 minutes. Would like it to be less, but in a series about playing horror games and seeing if they can scare me, you have to let the atmosphere play, you know? Given that I ended up recording an hour and fifteen minutes for that first episode, chopping it down to less than half that is actua...

The first test recordings

I probably should've started figuring this stuff out sooner than ten days before the first ep is scheduled to go out, but here we are. The lighting working out so well ended up being kind of a happy accident.

Patreon Party People Podcast - September 2016

Whoops, this took a little longer to get out than usual! For a couple of reasons! Also, over the course of this podcast, I kind of start to sound like a robot. Near as I can tell it's a combination of Levelator being weird and Goldwave's noise reduction also being weird -- but in my defense on the last one, there was a cricket chirping all throughout this podcast that had to be expunged.

Anyway! On this podcast: 10,000 Youtube subscribers! Bubsy! Potential Halloween plans! Evil clowns? And as ...

Overclocking SuperFX Chip games in an Emulator... How?

I'm on a roll with all these new videos. Here, I explain how to use RetroArch to play SuperFX Chip games at "full speed." Which is actually a little faster than full speed, given that SuperFX games seem to have been programmed with lag in mind.  More detailed instructions are available in the Youtube vi...

This Kinda Sucks: AM2R, Nintendo, and Fangames

Given my history “growing up” in a fangaming community, I figured I had a somewhat unique perspective on the “Nintendo shuts down that Metroid 2 fangame” situation.

My conclusions might not entirely be the ones you expect!

How DO We Fix Sonic?

More than a year ago, a Youtube channel called “Good Blood” released a video where they described their idea to reboot Sonic the Hedgehog. Given that I have dabbled in game development stretching all the way back to the dawn of Sonic fangames in 1998, I’ve had ideas for how I’d handle Sonic the Hedgehog for myself, assuming it was put in to my hands. What initially started out as a response to “Good Blood” grew in size until it became the 30 minute video you see before you. It covers...

Patreon Party People Podcast - August 2016

This is probably the longest Patreon Party People Podcast yet, and with good reason: I talk shop about behind the scenes of "The Big Video." From last minute technical problems to the bizarre sensation of finally having a 10-month project finished to last minute cuts to what I'm gonna do next, I ramble about the creation of this video almost as long as the video itself went on.

Then, I brief...

So, did you know I "make" music? I mean, you're supporting me on Patreon, so probably. I put "make" in quotations because I technically only remaster music. I never learned how to compose. The general idea is that I take, say, a MIDI I find on the internet, and I give it good instruments and effects and make it sound... well, better. Regardless of how impressive or unimpressive that is, it makes me happy, and I've been doing it for a long time, but not all of it is archived everywhere. So let's ...

How to Kiss a Hedgehog: Early Draft (June 2016)

Here is the first 30 pages of the book I am writing about Sonic 2006. This has not seen an editor, and there has been done very little proof reading. Things could and probably will change pretty significantly!

Audacity ate part of the podcast -- you'll know it when you hear it. Not much I can do about that, and it's kind of a bummer, but it's not hard to pick up on what I was saying.

What's happening with content production?

  • No April Fools anything from me this year, I was too focused on the big video. (0:00)
  • No, the big Sonic video still isn't done, and I don't know when it will be done. My apologies! (2:00)

About the Podcast

Adding an animated GIF as the podcast image apparently has done weird things when that post shows up in the new dashboard, so I have gone back to that post, re-uploaded the podcast, and added a regular image for the thumbnail instead.

So here's the new monthly update format! Unless somebody tells me it's a bad idea, then I'll go back to just doing the text.

Here's your show notes for the topics covered:

  • I talk about that new Ghostbusters trailer
  • Where's the video I promised two weeks ago? Still cranking away at it, carpal tunnel is kind of a problem. But I have to get it done soon!
  • I ordered a new capture card! This Patreon's initial goal has been accomplished!
  • And the generic "What vi...

Patreon Monthly Update: February 2016

So, uh, I didn't do one of these for January! Whoops! I didn't realize this until about halfway through the month, so I decided it was just best to ride it out. I think with me posting that podcast here so early in January sort of made my brain go "No, yeah, I've done that thing on Patreon."

So, last month I had the Game of the Year Podcast. I don't know what was up with Patreon, it used to let you embed those ki...

Game of the Year 2014-2015 Podcast!

So for 2014, I was going to do a whole big Game of the Year video, much like I did for 2013. Unfortunately, 2015 became so busy that I ended up recording a bunch of footage, writing a script, and a bunch of other stuff, but never actually putting it all together.

Now it is 2016, so rather than promise another video, I just put together a podcast. This covers all of the unused stuff I wrote for 2014, and everything I played in 2015 (spoilers: not that much).

Because you're...
