Leviathan Series: The Maw

The next part of the Leviathan Series is now done and you can begin to see where I’m headed and what I had in mind when I posted the first part a few weeks ago and the first part of the series was the Longship that you can find here:

https://www.patreon.com/posts/leviathan-series-19982223

I always thought Norse/Viking themes centered heavily around oceans and sea exploration and I real...

Small Changes

This post will probably get lost as I plan to release a new map straight after this but I wanted to go over a few changes and thoughts I’ve had over the last month or so. I lost a few supporters recently, who gave feedback that I wasn't creating enough battlemaps, as the reason for leaving. Which is fair criticism really, considering I am not only slower now that I used to be but I’m also doing world maps/region maps etc.

I went from making general use content like battlemaps that ev...

Sneak Peak: Dragons!

I was just going to post what I've been working on recently on discord but thought it might be better to share it with a post instead :)

I was house sitting all last week and while I was still working it was a nice mini holiday in some ways and very relaxing! I managed to get a few pieces drawn and inked and a big battle map coloured with just a few small tweaks before I'll post that, maybe sometime today or tomorrow!

I was also working on my cave/rock game and thought it would be a nice...

I did say I was going to colour this on stream.. But I’m currently house sitting for a friend and don't have my normal setup, so I thought I would just finish it up! :)

This is the finished coloured version of a map I drew for the mastermind behind World Anvil, just as a thank you for doing some amazing stuff and inviting me to a get together in London! If you haven't heard of World Anvil check out the link!

Eldritch Hybrid

I’ve had this token on my list for ages now, but Im finally getting some of these things done! One of the reasons this token took so long is because I just couldn't get the face right. I wouldn't say that I am great with characters just yet and even though this one looks pretty good there is still so many things I would change if I had more practice drawing this kind of thing.

Either way this is my version of a very specific idea and concept for a patron that I'm calling the Eldritch Hybrid ...

Leviathan Series: Longship

Leviathan Series: Part 1, The Longship

Today I finished up the first part in a series of maps and tokens called the Leviathan series, I am going to try and create a series of maps connected by a norse/viking fantasy theme and a very loose plot that will enable someone to fill in the blanks and create an adventure of their own!

The starting point for the series is the longship, one of the most iconic ships ever created and a great starting point for anyone loo...

It is very hot!

As the temperature over here in the UK continues to make working on things difficult, I have been doing alot of sketches and line art on a whole bunch of different maps. The good news is, I have 6 maps finished up right now in terms of line art but working on them to colour and finish them up is taking its time!

Also bear try to bear with me when it comes to sitting down to do streams! If the temperature in my little office is “melting hot” I have to go and work outs...

Sneak Peek: Leviathan Series

One of the things I've wanted to explore for a while now is a series of maps or useable things that tie together to help someone build an encounter. This wouldn't be a full blown adventure module but I might include a written plot hook or background to what I was thinking if I think it adds to the maps and other content. Either way the first one I would like to do is called the the Leviathan Series and the maps and other things will all be Norse/Viking themed!

Woodburnt Map: Isles of Skull Rock

Yesterday on stream I showed off a brief look at my attempts to make a map with a woodburning tool. I went over a few basic tries, and some of the difficulties of making maps using this technique but after a day of burning my own hand with a hot pen thing I finally finished a small test map!

In addition to th...

Star System Compass

Here is is the Star System Compass that I made for the Ederfast region map I posted yesterday!

There are a total of 6 different versions, including the planets I put together a while back that fit this compass very well! :D

I’m just about to head out to a BBQ but I just managed to these together, I don't have time to post everywhere on social media, so if you like these then please share them around so I can see how interested people would be in more like this! :)

Ederfast

This is a map of Ederfast, a sprawling region of forests, mountains and more than a few rivers, also the home to kingdom of the same name! Most of the region is based on the real world Appalachian Mountains and even though there are no marked cities on the map, to the southwest is the capital of Tarsis and another large city called Ptolus sits at the very northeast corner. They are connected via poorly maintained roads around the mountains and various trade routes and whole host of wilderness!&n...

Dark Sands

While I have done a few dark maps in the past, I have yet to do a map with  such a dark theme! I had this idea a while ago and I really wanted to make a very typical kind of cultist gathering place on the beach. These locations are common in games of Call of Cthulhu, the eldritch horror RPG that pits players against the unknowable machinations of the Old Ones and Elder Gods.

I may do some more of these in the future as you could use this kind of map in a D&D game to add some hor...

New Goals

In a few previous posts and on stream I’ve talked about my goals and ambitions for my patreon and for my maps going forwards. Today I’m just going to talk about some of these in a little more detail and if anyone has any feedback or thoughts on them, leave a comment or come and chat to me about it in my discord!

A few months back, I actually removed a few goals from my patreon sidebar because I felt like for the most part, those goals were time based. Or in other words they were thin...

Infernal Manor

This map has a little bit of history behind it. Years ago I had an idea for a game. It was going to be a Stardew Valley type farming/gathering simulation adventure game where you played as a devil in hell, running a tavern that served guests as they passed through. Some would be damned souls or even some devils and other monsters. You had to take care of them and supply your patrons with exotic items to be reward before they moved on.The idea never went anywhere but I loved the concept so I drew...

Sneak Peek: The Sword Coast & New Toy!

Just a small little update today to show everyone what I've been working on! I feel like I havnt been able to post anything in a while but I've been working on a big map commission in the background that I couldn't show here on my patreon.

The big map above however, is something I can show off and I'm really happy with how its turning out, I might even be able to stream the colouring process over the next few days!

Stonebreak

Colours…. Ooooo ooo….

So this map was originally supposed to be the site of an earth elemental bursting forth from the ground and causing the earth to rupture into these shard like rock formations. They do look like crystals though… I suppose the orange version is earthy enough :D

I did four different colours for this map as I wanted a few options for people that might want to play with the monster encounters and elements! :)

Featured Streams

Just a tiny update today, I have some new little stream ideas I would like to get up and running! I mentioned them on stream last week and a few people were very interested in this kind of content. So, starting this month I will try to do a few streams with more of a focus and set schedule!

While streams are a nice little side thing in addition to drawing and working on maps, I have had a lot of positive comments about how nice they are to watch and learn from, so I will try to stick to regula...

Leyfen

All finished up nice and quickly on this one! The little quaint coastal village of Leyfen including a few different versions!

There is going to be a World Anvil article up in the next few hours with this map done by Nevermore for the 4th Race! I will be posting that link on my discord when its up and editing this post so if you want to read up on some details for this village, so come back to check it out!

This was all coloured on stream, over at 2018-06-06 21:55:28 +0000 UTC View Post

Imminar

It’s finally finished!! :D

I am so incredibly happy with how this turned out! I knew it was going to be a good one but it really has so many little details that make it stand out! You can really tell that this is a fantasy map, with a dragon, crystal deserts, floating rocks and all of the colour and glowing effects!

I was really close to getting this done last night on stream but decided to stop and do a few details today as well. I ended up spending another 6-7 hours fixin...

Sneak Peek: Leyfen

This is favorite village/town map I’ve done so far. I haven't done a whole host of them yet but I really love the simplicity and the opportunity to use this for a really awesome starting location for a game of D&D.

Once this is coloured, this map will have an article up on World Anvil with a little bit more information and detail on the the village so people can use it for a 5th edition :)

Zoseer

When I first started drawing this map I realized that there is seemingly a quite a scarcity of towns made purely for desert campaigns and it spurred me on to create this, just for those trekking through a desert environment!

This map doesn't have any labels nor does it really have a good sense of how the town might function. This map was based on the concept art below so you can get a good idea of what I started with and the colour palette I used! I like to think that a huge portion of t...

Sneak Peek: Zoseer

Just a tiny sneak peek today, Im still suffering with an ear issue, turns out I have a ruptured eardrum which takes some time to heal.. Oh well! Things are just a bit slower than normal right now :)

Sneak Peek: Imminar

I've been a little quiet over the last week, suffering with my ear again, but I thought i'd share what i've been working on! This is another world map commision called Imminar.

I'm really happy with how this is coming together, loads of custom environments and a grand total of 16 major location icons. The detail is very fine, this is all drawn onto an A3 bit of paper but I'm pretty confident i'l...

Experimenting with some new colours and a new environment, with a barren, savannah like map called the Primal Totem! This is actually another quick map that I put together over two days, I finished the line work last night and coloured everything in less than 6 hours. It's amazing how much I can get done once Im feeling better.

This map has a night version with a nice creepy glow coming from the standing stone as well, because hey, you never know when your players are going to be wandering aro...

Maps can now be filtered by setting maps, battlemaps, and tokens, and further filtered by other things like environments or monster type. There is still a bunch of things to do and improve upon, so it you have any feedback please let me know! There are also a few things not up on the map gallery but 50+ maps and tokens are on there :)

I'm really happy with how you can now look through all of my previous content in a really easy and simple wa...

Stonewood

Apart from the name which is pretty standard for an RPG village I really like this little map, it has a lot of nice shadows and some awesome little details to work into an adventure or campaign.

It even has a little cave for you to send little murder hobos into :)

Oh and it was coloured all on stream so if you are interested you can go watch the videos back on my twitch channel!

Website Pictures, Streaming and Patron Thoughts

This post is just going to talk about a few things I've been working on in the background mainly updating my website but I'll touch on other things as well.

Website

So the website has come together much faster than I was expecting and might be in part because I wanted to keep things simple. As I mentioned previously in passing I really wanted a way for people to filter my maps. So if you needed a village map. Bam! Click an option and there they are. The screenshots...

Website Goal

While I might not have any goals on my patreon main page, I still have a few long term goals that I've been working on in the background (slowly). Most of these are based on either monetary blocks like a lack of equipment or they are time based.

One of the bigger goals I have after I hit around $500 a month is an update to my website, making it a place where you can easily find my maps, with filters and so on. This would also be a great place for me to generally talk about things regardi...

Treetop

Note: This was a commission piece  and it is not available for commercial purposes or publication, but you are still free to use it for personal use!

I spent ages on the wood texture and spent hours on the day version to get it looking right. I really wanted to add a canopy but no matter how hard I tried it just looked strange and kept covering up the detail, so I ended up adding shadows beneath the tree instead.

Oh and then did a night version and I like it more than...
