Turns out the old man was a representation of Ichigo's Quincy side all along and he's been trying to stunt our boy's shinigami powers since the beginning! Well, no longer! Time to become one and let Ichigo be the hybrid he was meant to be, full power and all (SPOILER ALERT!! IT'S EPIC!!!!)

Still in the past, uncovering what happened with Masaki and Isshin when they first met! Masaki has been infected by the Hollow through his bite and she's going through hollowfication! Unless Isshin gives up his powers (and life as a soul reaper!!) she'll die and become a Hollow, so our boy sacrifices himself and becomes the bridge between Masaki's soul and the Hollow's...and there's more! Tanjiro has to talk to Giyu to convince him to take part in the Hashira Training...but the Water Hashira doesn't see himself on the same level as the others. He doesn't think he is a Hashira, even! This view on his own abilities started back when he was training with his friend, Sabito (yep...same one who trained Tanjiro) and he survived the selection because his friend saved him...only to be killed right after. Survival guilt is a terrible thing D:
