A dog's mother: part 5
Hey everyone,
I have surgery scheduled tomorrow. I'm not going to go into detail about that except that it's an abdominal surgery and I am not in any life-threatening condition.
I've been waiting to tell you all this because I had to get a pre-op COVID-19 test done and if I tested positive the whole thing would have had to be rescheduled. But it looks like I'm not getting my result until tomorrow anyway, which means I'll have to be tested at the hospital. I doubt I have the virus ...

It is the week of the foreign exchange. While Smolder is the loving care of Yona's family, Yona is spending the week with Smolder's.
Smolder is unable to partake in yak traditions, since she has to stay in the fireplace or huddle Yona's parents' coat hair around herself to survive. Yona is having some trouble of her own. She can't safely participate in the dragons' most popular activities — since they all revolve around fighting, fire and lava — and the weather has been extreme.
The Student 6 are swapping families for a week. Yona and Smolder got paired for the exchange. Just one problem: Yakyakistan is frigid! Even the summers up there are colder than Equestrian winters. Poor Smolder wasn't equipped to handle these low temperatures. Fortunately, her host family was incredibly sweet.

Part 4 of A Dog's Mother is in production.
What have Smolder, Garble and little Cinder been up to anyway?
Garble can't wait for his little sibling to finally say hello. He's waited a whole year for the egg to hatch.
Garble thinks he's getting a little brother, but his mother is convinced he's wrong. It makes no difference to him as long as he gets someone to play with.
Caldera has despised ponies ever since she first met them. When Smolder started attending friendship school in Equestria, she was incredibly dismayed. If it weren't for her daughter's fondness of the place, she wouldn't have tolerated it. But one day Caldera received upsetting news: Smolder wasn't coming home to celebrate the Feast of Fire with her family. This wasn't like Smolder at all!
Caldera's fears were confirmed by a letter she received from her daughter.
Those filthy ponies ...
Torch, despite coming off as brutish, is quite scholarly. Not many dragons seek knowledge like he does, and those dragons who are uneducated bore and irritate him. He learned very early on that most dragons don't make for good conversationalists and won't show any initiative, instead waiting for the Dragon Lord to bark orders or dismiss them. He also learned at a young age that a significant majority of his subjects aren't all that concerned about promoting the general welfare of their kind. ...

East Point marks the final resting spot in the Dragon Lands before entering the Green Valley Region. A modest shrine was carved out of the mountain top.

A secluded bay with many comfortable rocks to relax on, this beach has become a popular retreat for dragonesses.
Why dragonesses? It started out as a meeting point for them and it has been assumed that drakes aren't welcome here ever since. By now some dragons even think it's the law.

My husband's birthday is in five days. I drew his bug man for him. He received this part of his gift early.
Mute Ant was an Australian guy who worked as a bouncer. Now he runs about with the henchmen under some boss lady. He's only bad on the clock. Running errands with a bunch of other faceless tough guys pleases his ant brain.
He likes being tougher since he's an ant man now. He can lift several times his own weight.
Since Smolder fills the role Jade was created to (young dragoness who has to get used to living around ponies, provides Spike with a dragon perspective on things and secretly likes cute pony stuff and dresses) and Jade would no longer have any reason to be stuck in Equestria (due to Spike's connection with Ember), there is no point in relocating Jade to Ponyville.
But that doesn't mean she's gone! Her story simply takes place in the Dragon Lands now and she's as spunky as ever...

The students go to school in traditional wear as a part of a cultural exchange program. Smolder is unsure how everyone in school will respond to her look.
She and Yona will be spending a week at each other's families, before wearing their traditional garb to school.
Since the changelings have a brand new culture, Ocellus has nothing traditional to put on and is helping the other students get ready.

Garble commissioned a dress for his little sister as a Basalt Mitsvah present. He expected her to be happy, but he was unprepared for hugs and tears.
Inspired by the colors of her dress, Smolder has dubbed her tea party persona "Princess Strawberry Cheesecake". Garble, or "Archduke von Pfefferminze", feels like she may be enjoying her present a little too much at times. He figures she's getting great value out of those gems he spent, at least.
