Lonely - Process

1. In Manga Studio, a very rough sketch with big fat pencils. The fat pencils force me to keep the sketch loose without getting too caught up in the details. I started with just the basic naked figure, a vague sketch of the big big hair (which was something I planned to include in this one from the start), and a general sense of the bed and drapes.

2. Final sketch. Using the rough sketch as a reference, I drew a new sketch layer with a finer pencil. I refined the face and clothes, sketc...

Dolly à la Carte - Process

1. In Manga Studio, a very rough sketch with big fat pencils. The fat pencils force me to keep the sketch loose without getting too caught up in the details. I started with just the basic naked figures, a photo reference for a shopping cart, and a perspective ruler to draw the shelves.

2. Final sketch. Okay, I didn't really stick to the rough sketch rule very much on this one. Using the rough sketch as a reference, I drew a new sketch layer with a finer pencil. I drew in all the...

Prissy Ponders - Process

1. In Manga Studio, a very rough sketch with big fat pencils. The fat pencils force me to keep the sketch loose without getting too caught up in the details. I started with just the basic naked figure, then start sketching in the clothes and hair.

2. Final sketch. Using the rough sketch as a reference, I drew a new sketch layer with a finer pencil. I also imported a 3D model for the collar, which I had created in advance in 3DSMax.

3. Inking. I use a variable width inking brush on vector...

Prissy Ponders

I wonder what naughty little thoughts float through Prissy's fluffy little head. Does she long for the days when she was allowed to wear boy clothes? Or does she regret all those days wasted before being indoctrinated with her feminine fashion sense? Or maybe she's just thinking about trying a new shade of lipstick? Or whether she can find an outfit with even more pretty bows?

Mermaid Reeled In - Process

1. Rough sketch with thick pencil

2. Final sketch with thin pencils

3. Inking! (I re-used parts of the rock and flower from the previous mermaid image)

4. Color blocking and a simple moon to define the light source

5. Basic form shading. A solid layer of deep blue set to multiply, painted with a soft airbrush.

6. Moonlight. A solid layer of very light, pale blue (same as the moon) set to color dodge, painted with a soft brush, touched up with a soft airbrush, with some ...

Twinsies: Trick or Treat? - Process

1. Rough sketch with thick pencil. Since this is a symmetrical piece, I used the symmetry ruler in Manga Studio while sketching the parts that are the same (body, head shape, hair).

2. Final sketch, refining all the details.

3. Inking. I used the same symmetry ruler to ink the parts that are the same. Since different parts get covered up on different sides, I had to go ahead and ink all the parts and then erase them after I inked the parts that are different. I used a variable-width pen ...

Twinsies: Trick or Treat?

Here's a follow-up to my earlier Twinsies picture!

They may look like twins but can you spot the subtle differences between them and guess which is which? (Hint: They are wearing different earrings.)

With fake-twinning, I thought a symmetry pose would especially fun, emphasizing our poor little angel being coerced into going along with our naughty devil's plans.

The Manga Studio symmetry rulers really came in handy for this one!

Pumpkin Sissy - Process

1. Really rough sketch with fat pencils. I had a lot of trouble with this one because I wanted a really twisty pose with strong perspective. I wound up sketching in multiple layers so I could shift her butt around and scale it down or scale her head up and so on.

2. Medium rough sketch. More details worked out. This is what my rough sketch usually looks like.

3. Final sketch + model. Final details worked out. I also decided to make a 3D model for that "Sissy" collar since this is the thi...

Pumpkin Sissy

What will you do when this pretty little sissy comes knocking on your door on Halloween night?

I can't decide if that full basket is because Sissy received a lot of special treats from all the neighbors or if this is how Sissy starts the night, with a full basket and orders not to return home until it is empty.

From the collar, you can tell that this is the same character who appeared in Sissy On A Leash.

Twinsies: Costume Party Tonite! - Process

1. Rough sketch with thick pencil.

2. Final sketch, refining all the details.

3. Inking. I use mono-width lines for the furniture and variable-width lines for the characters. There's a lot of overlapping areas, especially with the wig and the little ruffles, so I worked on lots of separate layers in Manga Studio to make it easier to erase overlapping areas. (I felt kind of dumb when I finished drawing the demon wings because I spent too much time drawing curly hair that got erased when I...

Twinsies: Costume Party Tonite!

Isn't it just the cutest thing when a couple wears matching costumes to a party?

I've got a special affection for fake-twinning. (Is there a term for that?) There's something about being made it into someone else's duplicate, a subsuming of your identity into theirs, that is just delicious.

And also himegal wigs. Such a yummy combination of girly curliness and bouffant oomph!

Black Cat Magic - Process

1. Rough sketch with thick pencil

2. Final sketch

3. Inking. I also inked the pentacle flat so that I could export it separately.

4. Basic block color. I distorted the pentacle onto the floor and put another copy up in the air so people can see the parts of the incantation hidden behind the characters. (It's written in the Theban alphabet.)

5. Form shading. I used a dark blue layer with color burn, set to a high opacity for darker shadows.

6. Underlight. For the underli...
