Making An Instrumental With RELATIVE Modal Changes

To complete the recent string of lessons on modes, I've written an entire instrumental song here that demonstrates the supreme yet simple power of using RELATIVE modes. 

When we hear the word "modes" we often think of big scale runs and changing keys and stuff. But that's not always the case- the most valuable usage of the modes, in my opinion, is shifting relatively. This way you don't even have to change keys, but can still access the different modal worlds.

This is a part-two follow-up to the lesson I posted last week about Modes. Last time we focused on Relativity by always thinking back to the parent major scale. This time, we're thinking more Parallel, by considering what can exist atop a single chord.

The only edit I'd make to this lesson is that the "bad examples" don't actually sound THAT BAD. Mixing 7ths, as demonstrated in this vid, isn't really the worst sound in music. Mixing thirds (minor and major) is much more severe of a sin ...

A LESSON ON MODES

There's two ways to really think about modes in my opinion:

1: They are related to a major scale

or

2: They are independent scales

In this demonstration, I walk you through both perspectives to hopefully try to tie up any loose ends.

Writing With Hemiola - LIVE in 1 hour

In 1 hour (10:30 CT) I'll be going live to try to compose some music with a heavy focus on hemiola. I'll be trying my best to implement all forms of it, and hopefully by the end we have some cool sounding stuff!
