'Fire Dance With Me'

A quick sticker design wound up taking about twice as long as I'd hoped as drawing flames is hard.  Wound up using a fancy brush that I touched up a bit.  Overall, I'm pretty happy with this image.  Can't wait to turn it into a sticker.

Weekly Update 10.02.23…

…I had no idea it was October already.😅

Been assembling Black Label boxes all week. It’s been fun…but I’m definitely looking forward to getting back to my old schedule of drawing comics. It’s been good though, too. It’s really gotten me excited and given me time to think about the direction Black Label is going and the stories and drawings I’m most excited to get to. ☺️

'Surprise' Comic / Wallpaper

So I spent the week writing/sketching the next chapter of BLACK LABEL while I also worked on this.  I learned a lot along the way about color theory, layout, transitions, etc.  I'm very pleased with it.  Cool to see what is possible when you take your time.  Usually I do one or two drafts and then get started on the line art.  This one...well, like I said, I took my time.

Surprise Hi-Rez

This was a fun image to work on.  Had a couple variations in that definitely need to be explored, but I decided to keep this one classy for now. ;)

Surprise!

Man, I have been brain dead of late.  Needed a fun scenario to bust me out of my funk, and I think this did the job!  Gave me a few more great ideas to work on, too!

Chapter 8 is coming together a tad slower than I'd like as I'm putting more planning into my pages compositions so I won't need to make adjustments later.  This has always been the hardest phase of comic production for me as I'm so excited to start drawing finished pages and comics.  One step at a time, ...

CHAPTER 8 is coming along!

It's been nice getting back into the swing of drawing!  Just wish I was faster. ^^;  It's very hard to not compare yourself to other artists, but gee whiz am I slow.  Obviously, I've been a tad busy with the book (final proof should be done in the next day or so and then I can finally order the books), but now that I have time dedicated to drawing again, it still took several days before I scribbled out anything worth saving or working with.  But once I got going... :D

BLACK LABEL?

Why yes, it is!  It's not page 1 as I wanted to get some of the more complicated pages knocked out first.  Gonna do a few more, while I refine the storyboards for the rest of the chapter.  They're gonna be fun!  Next one is gonna have more of a gothic look (hopefully). ;)

I thought I was going to have a lot more drawing time, but most of it went to working on book plates for the campaign and tightening the script for chapter 8, which is going to have some great pages.  We've reached the point now where things are starting to calm down.  A lot of the packaging is moving along and now we're just waiting on the books (the ...

The final proof for the book has been approved but it’s going to take up to five days for the payment to go through because apparently PayPal felt I needed another roadblock. Whatever, I don’t even care. The order is placed! The hard part is done, now we wait…and make boxes and stuff envelopes! The fun part! Gonna turn on a movie and get crafty!

August Mail Club!

Well, this is a bit overdue.  I swear, I thought I'd posted this a while back, but apparently not.  Regardless, I wasn't able to transform the print into a satisfying sticker, so I've got to Val the Dungeon Master Stickers, because I need them in my life. :)

Things are finally calming down now that the campaign is done, and we are up to our ears in shipping boxes, prints, stickers and more.  Everything but the books, the proof of which is supposed to come in next week! :D...

Update!

Whew...I am exhausted.  There's been a lot of excitement over here.  We just received a a huge box of prints and about 500 shipping boxes.  The office is full of stuff and we're eagerly awaiting the first proof of the book.  There's been a lot of problems though.  We've had to switch printers for the bags as they didn't feel the design went with their company culture.  Found another printer though.  More expenseive, but no issues thus far.  We're all ex...

Hey Everyone!

Feels like it’s been a while. I’ve had a chance to recover from the sprint of the campaign and am getting on to the next step. Once crowdfundr finishes processing everything, we’ll be sending out the PDF files and ordering the proof for the book! In the meantime, we’re assembling Black Boxes, stuffing envelopes, and I’ve been sketching and autographing a lot of bookplates! A lot of book plates…seriously. ;)

All told, everything should be on its way by the end ...

We hit the 30k mark, which means we’re getting Guest Artist prints, featuring Stjepan Sejic! that’s right, Shiniez himself! Creator of SUNSTONE and FINE PRINT! I am over the moon! Stjepan does not do commissions, but I asked anyway as a ‘why the hell not’ and he said he’d love to! I still can’t believe it. He sent me a sketch of what he’s working on, which I can’t share here just yet, and I think you’re all gonna love it! Can’t wait to hang it on my wall!

THE REFERENCE DEPARTMENT: 'Shootout'

I learned a lot with this one.  due to some poor planning on my part I missed out on some rather dynamic lighting, but I'm still quite pleased with the results!  I think it'll make a fine print!

Included the video thumbnail that for some reason did not show up in the Youtube video, so I'll be figuring that out next. :)

I tried using OBS to get a higher quality timelapse, but sadly it is more than my editing software can handle.  Will invest in a better program once things calm down a bit over here.  In the meantime, here is a larger version and the psd file if you wanna see how the pieces all came together.

This was a fun one!  Very pleased with how it came out!  I've had little to no drawing time lately and was worried I was losing my edge, but I still got it and I seemed to have improved a bit! :)

This is gonna make a great print for Mail Club!  Can't see it working as a sticker though, so I'll have to figure out what I'm doing for that.  I have an idea, and I think you'll approve.  More on that soon!

A few things to share…

…I wish there was more. I’ve spend most of my time sketching book plates (which is fun!) checking social media stuff, making adjustments to page files (page cropping needs to be adjusted for pretty much every page), ordering stock and supplies and packing envelopes. It’s a lot of stuff, but I’m having an absolute blast! The hard part is putting it all down and going to bed at the end of the day. 😅

What an amazing week! Thanks so much for the support! We’ve already unlocked some stretch goals and we have some new ones lined up that will blow your mind! One of them…well, I’m not allowed to say, but I just still believe it! Will share when I can!

Holy Crap! I cannot believe how well the campaign is going! We’ve already sold out of the Black Box edition, so we’re planning to make more. Keep an eye on the page for updates if you’re interested and missed your chance. I’ll share an update here as well once they’re available.
