“There you are!” Gwendith’s voice brought Yuriko out of her trance. She blinked at the girl from her Runescribe station, and she put down the wooden plate she’d been working on.
The runescript patterns were simple. The central concepts revolved around toughness, reinforcement, and repair. Each of the Colossus’ armour plates was capable of repairing itself, but it was limited to the plates. Meaning if the plate were destroyed completely, then it wouldn’t regenerate at all.

The Frozen Camp erupted in activity. Practically everyone who wasn't guarding the walls had been working non-stop to prepare for their departure. The Plasma Carronades and the Protective Dome were the last ones to be dismantled and Yuriko wasn’t sure if that was even possible given the circumstances.
The swarmlings continued to attack, even with how futile it was. Occasionally, a Wanderer, a pack of Hunters, or even a stray Chaos Lord or two could be spotted in the distance. The Chaos...

Hi all!
Just putting this out there again. :D
There will be no chapters released on June 13 and regular posting will resume on June 20.
One little thing: artwork for the characters have been in progress in the background and we'll be putting up a new post where we will collect and upload all the character art as they come in. We'll probably have to fix the set up for the pinned post--we'll get that figured out and sorted.
See you on the 20th!

The meeting went on for a few more minutes as Marron described what he saw. At one point, when he spoke about his return trip, he hesitated and looked pale. He paused for a couple of seconds, then continued as if nothing had happened.
Yuriko held his arm, stroking it soothingly. He returned a slight smile but continued with his report.
Afterwards, Commander Perry said, “It looks like we have little choice. It’s a good thing we recovered Adjudicator Sharine’s granddaughter al...

Marron opened his eyes and scrubbed away the accumulated gunk at the corners. He’d gotten maybe a couple of hours sleep and his head was pounding now. He focused to channel Recovery, hoping the technique would alleviate his drowsiness and headache.
The familiar spike of pain arrived, and most of it was focused on his head, just behind the eyes. He let himself linger in the trance, though it didn’t make him any less sleepy. Despite that, he knew he wouldn’t be able to rest. Not whi...

“Who’s there?” Marron yelled as he spun on his heels, the Plasma Caster snapping up to ready position. His Animus boiled within, the liquid power releasing some of its potency to empower his Facets and his inlaid techniques.
The Plasma Caster, set to draw power from the jade cartridges, glowed with the added personal Animus. Marron’s denser energy created a more potent bolt, which sizzled at the chamber.
“You are. A strange. Human.” the voice said, sounding much like t...

Oddly enough, it was Gwendith who fell asleep first. She curled into a little ball and somehow used Yuriko’s lap as a pillow while nuzzling into her thighs. Rolling her eyes, Yuriko nudged Gwendith over to the bed and lay down next to her.
The other girl must have worried herself to exhaustion. It didn’t help that they weren’t out of danger, not by a long shot.
Yuriko’s Anima flared as far as they could go. It stretched throughout the entirety of the room and easily reveal...

The return to the Frozen Camp was quiet. The others were already a longstride from the base of the cliff by the time Yuriko landed. It was slow going with the three remaining Colossi carrying the fourth. All three were heavily damaged but she could see the restorative runescript lines working. There was only so much raw Animus could do without materials though.
Desire slammed into Yuriko’s chest, squeezing her tight. She patted the Chaos Lord’s head, stroking the silky smooth brown ...

Marron Mishala Davar carefully crept around the Wyldling patrol. It was a group of Wanderers, as idiosyncratic as that idea was. The typically solitary creatures didn’t work well together though.
This group had several variations from the base Antid though. Of the group of eight, three were the regular Antids, hulking creatures with six limbs, the upper arms tipped with scythe-like blades. One was a Lurker, a quadrupedal thing that spat out gobs of acid at its foes. Another two were e...

The bedroom practically vibrated with the deafening sounds of Iola Melanthos Brygos’ snoring–not that anyone would point that out to her. One could only snore while asleep, after all, and any attempt at recording the sound was usually met with broken crystal tablets and bruised lips. Not that the Legate of Agminis was that petty, no. All that was accomplished subconsciously by her Domain.
Her husband, back when he was still alive several decades ago, would have had the gall to point...

‘Saki?’
Yuriko’s second attendant, a self-effacing woman who barely spoke and took Ryoko’s lead in most things. Why was she here? More importantly, she was a Knight, wasn’t she? How else could she have followed Yuriko so closely? No, wait, she was a…Shadow? Was she the one to deliver the note back in Aerule Garden? The hand that appeared out of a cloak of shadows?
Was she also the one who tried to abduct her? No, that didn’t make any sense. Not if she was here now, a...

The mistress’ battle dance was so mesmerising that she spent most of the battle hidden away watching. Her sole duty was to protect Lady Yuriko Mishala, and even if the warriors around her died in droves, as long as she lived and was whole, she wouldn’t interfere.
That’s what she told herself anyway. It was painful to watch those who had gotten close to the mistress get hurt or die.
No, no! Stand firm. Her life was for the mistress. If she hurt herself saving others then the ...

Almost as if to mock her optimistic thoughts, a fresh wave of barbarians arrived on the plateau. There were still a handful of behemoths and, if the beasts had worked together instead of only defending themselves when attacked, then the Imperial forces would have had a harder fight.
‘No’, Yuriko thought, ‘we’ve suffered injuries aplenty, and lost one Colossus already. This is by no means easy.’
In her heart of hearts, though, she wondered why the Knights had so much trou...

Hey all!
As CoESC Book 6 comes to a close, we'll be taking a one-week for some much-needed rest as we go into Book 7.
It's been quite the ride taking care of these fictional kids alongside our life offline and we have enjoyed every minute of it! We realised though that we've not really taken enough breaks to reset and focus purely on resting (since we did keep posting during our last break, hehe).
There will be no chapters released on June 13 but we will resume posting on Ju...

The colours of the planar Veil shifted and stirred. The hues flowed towards the ground but the groves in between hid at which point they focused on. Yuriko's quick glance turned into a stare. The shifting of the Veil could only mean one thing, that something was coming through the Tidelands.
From the size of the disturbance, and the breadth it expanded to, she thought that whatever was coming would take much more time to enter. The stronger the Anima strength, the longer the Veil reveal...

The sight of Yuriko levitating near the cliff wall, and pretty much climbing with barely any effort, shouldn’t have surprised Sheamus. She was a Knight and, of the other ten Knights with them, three others used their techniques to climb rather than their limbs.
Centurion Areena Henry stuck to the back of one of the Colossi, somehow using streaks of blue lightning to stick to the wooden armour instead of her hands. Another Knight, a Decanus from her insignia, straight out flew. Gusts o...

“I want to go with you,” Gwendith said to Yuriko as she returned to her room half an hour after the conference. Her outer reserves were once again filled to the brim, but her problem had shifted from a matter of supply to a matter of force. It was an odd conundrum, she felt, considering that for the past couple of years, she had struggled with how long she could keep her sword dances up, especially with Fri’Avgi in the mix.
She just stared for a moment at the shorter girl, eyes bl...

Yuriko’s entrance into the battle did not go unnoticed. In fact, the bicorn straight up roared and charged towards her, muscling aside the Koinos even at the cost of a couple of strikes to the flank, which managed to draw a bit of blood. The Spear-Koinos’ weapon was coated in dense Animus and the bicorn’s movement had caused its Protective Animus to thin.
For all that, it ignored the cuts as though they didn’t exist. Yuriko landed on the ground barely in time to jump out of the ...

The Weaver of the Warp and Weft of the World knelt on one knee, on the soft grass, head bowed and careful to keep his sight level only to the feet of their Graces. The feel and weight of Chaos soothed him after an extended foray into the forsaken plane. The injuries he received in battle still sizzled, letting loose a waft of acrid smoke. But with the sheer amount of Primordial Chaos in the air proved that quantity was a quality of its own. The lingering Radiant energy soon burnt itself out. ...

The boulders slammed onto the field north of the outpost and did more damage to the swarmlings than the walls. That’s what Yuriko thought anyway, since she was on the southern wall. She leapt down to the courtyard and ran towards the north, and leapt up on the wall instead of taking the stairs. The battlements were crowded and she had to curtail her leap, using her Animakinesis to support herself on the edge of the crenelations.

By the third day, the strict rotation on the walls had broken down enough that Commander Perry only assigned half of the original number. The rest were filled with volunteers or, more likely, bored Knights who wanted to let off some steam.
Only the Destroyers amongst the militia and the legion were really necessary, as they had literally trained for this sort of battle.
Also, on the third day, just after noon, Yuriko’s patience had all but dried up. She leapt off the wall, summo...

Yuriko exchanged glances with Gwendith then they both hurried towards the keep. As they exited the southern barracks, Yuriko heard the gates slam shut. Twilight cast long shadows across the courtyard and she could see militiamen hurrying towards the armoury. A glance along the walls showed her that it was manned by red-coated legionnaires. Harsh white light emitted from spheres set on poles at regular intervals.
Yuriko began the process of creating her sunshards. She also picked up as m...

Yuriko staggered out of her bedroom and saw Gwendith glaring at Desire. She was trembling, biting her lower lip with her eyes ablaze.
“Gwendith?” Yuriko asked, interrupting the staring match.
The other girl had regained much of her presence and somehow, managed to return her hair into her signature corkscrew curls. She was still a bit thin but whatever the healers had done, as well as the drops of Ambrosia she fed the other, had done much to return her to her former beauty and...

The healers’ office kept Gwendith and the other women for a few hours. Diagnostic techniques showed that all of them had been suffering from some form of malnutrition, or rather, that they were recovering from malnutrition.
The odd thing was that they were much further along the road to recovery than the ten days or so since they had escaped. Gwendith wasn’t particularly malnourished since she had been fed relatively well.
She’d also been given a vial of Auxilius Vitae, whic...

“Little sister!”
The high pitched squeal was all the warning Yuriko had before a dark-haired missile slammed into her middle, spun around using her as a fulcrum while she staggered at the sudden weight, and then squeezed into a fierce hug.
“Eh?”
The woman was a few inches shorter than Yuriko, had a voluptuous figure, short dark hair and liquid green eyes. She looked familiar of course, but the name was just at the tip of Yuriko’s tongue. Wait…she didn’t have an...

The handaxe whirled in the air and struck the kneeling barbarian’s face. It was only fortune that caused the haft to hit him rather than the sharp blade. Despite the stinging pain bringing tears to his eyes, the warrior didn’t move a muscle. The barbarian weathered the words like a boulder before a storm, earning his chieftain’s grudging respect.

Yuriko shook her head. “The trees are a bit too thick.” Not to mention the hills were higher farther east.
Gwendith raised an eyebrow and grinned. “Do you think they’re headed there?” Gwendith chewed on her lower lip in thought. “How many?”
“I’m not sure. They’re headed east, however. There were two hundred, I think.” Yuriko replied easily. They didn’t feel dangerous to her though, so probably no Elder level...

The first night out of the plateau, Gwendith helped build their shelter for the night. Inexplicably, her Animus reserves had grown naturally and she felt herself already at Sollus. It was a pity she couldn’t take the chance to advance now. More to the point, she wasn’t sure that the part of her Heritage that she earmarked to open into a Facet was the one she wanted.
The path towards the Knight level was clear-cut for the Sharine Heritage. The next Facet was actually Ice Manipulation...
