Hey guys, Blue here just dropping in to thank you all so much for choosing to support the work we do here on OSP. I know we say it a lot in many different contexts: at the ends of videos, on streams, on the podcast, but it's difficult to articulate just how incredible it is that a community of almost 2,500 people enjoy what we do so much that you've chosen to monetarily support our silly internet videos.
I was actually just talking to some friends (all friends from fencing, of ...

It's a brand new show! (That's the second one this month!)
Basically, imagine an inverse Trope Talk where the whole episode is just about one media example. That's this!
Today: we begin with the pilot of Samurai Jack, and examine why it kicks so much ass.
This is an experiment, and as always we welcome your feedback! Let us know if you want to see more of this, what you like, what you didn't like, and anything you think we should change for next time.

As mentioned in the last Patron Spring seasonal update, we've got a new series! "City Minute" is all about awesome cities from all around the world and across history, delivered in 1-minute vertical installments.
Ah, when "Vertical Video" used to be a crime on par with bank robbery, how times change.
Today we've got this intro video to explain the concept of the series, and then we've got a short for Athens and a short for Carthage — For the sake of avoiding clutter, I'...

Happy Spring everybody!
I apologize that this update is a week delayed. Without getting into any details, Red and I have independently had to manage matters unrelated to OSP that have taken up a solid share of our focus and time in the past month. Once we roll into April, we're hoping to get back to normal and continue our livestreaming of HADES, because we had an absolute blast the last time we played that game.
2021 so far was pretty...

Hi friends, with the coming of Spring it's time for another seasonal update for you all on patreon, but various extenuating factors are superceding channel-work at the moment, so in the interest of giving you all a proper update – we've got to delay it a week so that we can take the time to write a good one.
Next week we'll let you know what's happening in the next few months with OSP (and of course, have you vote on future trope talk & HistoryMaker topics).
In the meantim...

yeeeeeeeeee these remastered videos are so much fun to make (even though making a ~30 minute video is exponentially more complicated than making a ~10 minute one, ahhh well, it's rome, I'm willing to bend my rules a little.

Two videos behind schedule, it's time to talk about Sappho!
Sappho is essentially impossible to talk about in a vacuum, partially because there's so little about her and so little from her, so this ended up being a much wider discussion of the world around Sappho and why we have her work in the state that we do.
Definitely not a typical History-Maker's episode, because Sappho super didn't care about history, but this is an episode that let me explain a lot of really cool thi...

The cool thing about this thumbnail is, even if you have no idea who the character is, you totally get what archetype he represents.

This video was requested by our longtime patron Antonio Juarez! Thank you Antonio :)
You know how people talk about the new world and colonization and big european empires starting in 1492? Yeah, screw that nonsense, today we're going to focus exclusively on the early history of atlantic exploration by spain and portugual, with extra attention paid to the exploration of the Azores, Madeira & Canary islands off to the west of Iberia. If I do say so myself, I...

Think of it like a Miscellaneous Myth, but slightly better-sourced.
(Patron listing at the end of the video was compiled in mid-December when the video was finalized and scheduled - don't be alarmed if it seems off! Future videos will be more up-to-date!)

Okay, THIS YEAR WE BRING BACK ART DECO! Last year was a mulligan, this time we'll actually do it!
Anyway, no point being oblique about the matter — it's been a bad time for just about everybody, for reasons big and small. But now we're looking at the horizon of a new year, and while we're certainly a bit relieved to have the confirmation that time has in fact been passing, we'll be entering 2021 with many of the same challenges we've faced in 2020.
Despite the overwhelm...

Hello all,
As we announced at the start of the month, we have updated our tiers. $1 is largely as it was, $5 and $10 have been reorganized, and the $20 and $100 tiers have been replaced by a new top-tier at $25.
Please take this time to peruse the sidebar and select the tier you'd like to be a part of. Patrons who were at 1, 5, and 10 are still set to those tiers – but patrons who were at 20 or 100 will have to manually select a new tier to join (the last thing we wanted to d...
