I did a little shooting during the week. Spending the weekend editing. (For an upcoming movie-of-the-week).

New

Another day, another audition. You'll be seeing this actor in one of my upcoming films. Probably in May (?).

Twelve

The films of season 12 have been uploaded, and are waiting for their April premiere. Now I'm editing the BTS.

Signs

You know it's a sign that I'm about to shoot a new project when I start collecting props. This is for an upcoming work, possibly the May movie-of-the-month.

Color

If 'Killinois' looked a little different than other films of mine, I was experimenting with super saturating the images.

One of the fun things about making so many films is I get to try just about any idea I have, either in plotting, filming, editing or coloring. I've got B&W, raw, graded, monochrome, and now saturated.

Ok, I know you just got March's rewards, but I'm already thinking towards what April will bring.

Coming In At The End

Later this year season 12 will premiere. And I think I'll include the above mentioned film, which I shot 15 or 20 years ago, with a not-so-good camera.

Still, it's worth a peek.

Just playing around with this film and I really ended up liking the poster for it. I like the aged look I was able to give it.

The Weekend

I'll be busy Saturday, Super Bowl Sunday, and my girlfriend will be in town through Valentine's Day (Monday), so I'll largely be off line for the next 3 days. Any questions might not be answered until Tuesday. For new people, most things are explained in the "About" page.

Props 2

And another prop arrives, this one for a shoot down the line.

This one will will be an interesting start to a scene.

Prop

The latest prop purchase - a body bag. You know you're in a horror film when you see a body bag.

It's a little creepy to have in the house. And like the urn in "The Urn", I don't know what to do with it after it's done.

Looking at audition tapes, and this actress has caught my attention. I might make her an offer.

VHS

I just sent out a quick video explaining the details of the VHS-shot movie in the middle of 'Analog'.

Darkest

This was one of my earliest short horror films. I did it for a festival, one that had an unheard of large first place (over $10,000). I came in second, and the festival runner openly admitted the winner was a friend of his and he'd been rooting for him to win. The festival runner was also one of only 3 judges.

Current

Something I'm working on right now.

Shooting

I don't know if I'm going with an official poster for this film, but this is my official "card" for the movie.

One of the fun things in filmmaking - an actor backed out of showing up for his scenes this weekend. It was just a small part, but important. Normally that wouldn't be a bad thing, but half the movie was shot with Chicago under a blanket of snow. And with a warm-up on the way, I need to get someone before the snow is gone, or scenes won't match.

Fun.

Analog

I believe I've finished editing Analog. I'll take a quick look tomorrow before I load it up, but I believe it's ready to go.

Late

So, I ordered this prop from Amazon for overnight delivery. It arrived more than a week later. It was to be used in "Analog". Obviously, too late.

So, I now have to build an entire film around it. Waste not/want not!

Tone

This film, "Obscura", was an experiment in tone. It's a very dark tone, that deals with a woman abused. But nothing in the film is said clearly, nothing blatant. Including what the evil in the film is. Hence the title, Obscura.

Experiment

One of the terrific things about shooting nearly 100 short films is that I've had a chance to experiment with a lot of styles. I've done found footage, B&W, and this film, "Waiting For You". In it, I split the screen with the actor and the image of his phone. And for most of the film he's engaged in a mysterious argument with someone who only communicates with emoji's.

Ad Hominem

Why am I posting this? No reason. You might already have seen this film, or it may be upcoming for you. But I was doing some work on my films and ran across this one from a few years ago. I hadn't seen it in a while. I forgot how well that actress did her scene.

Titles

One of the early things I do is prepare titles. Doing a film a month means I have precious few days I can waste. And since I'm not shooting at the moment, I can take the time to craft titles.

Writing

One thing I did get to do during the holiday season was a lot of writing. And even more, a lot of rewriting. So when I get back to shooting I've got several really strong works that have been edited and re-edited to perfection. A lot to look forward to!

Surge

So many new names for so many new viral situations. But once this surge of Covid has expired, this is one of the actresses I'm dying to work with again. Fun, easy to work with, talented, and lovely. And I have just the film for her.

IMDB

Every once and awhile I add an IMDB page. I do it mainly because actors who are considering working with me will check out my IMDB to help assess my validity. And, it never hurts to have IMDB behind you. So far I have about 20 of my films listed. I'll probably list these three next.

There are a couple of people who signed up today - so far Patreon has not charged you. As soon as they give me the ok, I'll send the rewards out. (Sometimes, when you sign up on the first of the month Patreon won't charge you - so we'll see.)

Patreon has started their monthly charges. As I mentioned, since this is a weekend and a holiday as well, they may not be done with charges until tomorrow. I'll keep an eye on it. If they finish with charges this evening I'll send out the rewards.
