How effective would Toph's tremorsense be in a modern setting?

I've been trying to come to a conclusion for a while now, and at this point I figure its a up to how her ability works. One idea is that she feels the vibrations and they are somehow filling in an mental map, in which case more vibrations are actually a good thing. On the other side, if she is sensing the vibrations coming directly from movement  then being surrounded by vibrations would make it useless.
