VIRIDIAN GATE ONLINE: NOMAD SOUL BY D.J. BODDEN (Prologue)

If you had to choose between your life and your dreams, would you ever wake up?

Alan Campbell thought he’d gotten his dream job working on a revolutionary VRMMORPG with Osmark Technologies, until the project was canceled. He has one weekend to dive into an untested world full of intrigue, violence, and corruption to prove that Viridian Gate Online works, but the AI...

2019 Update, Tentative Release Schedule, and some Badass Art!

Hey everyone! Sorry I haven't been around a whole lot lately. It's been a pretty crazy time for me and the fam. Lots of travel, which has been fun but also exhausting--it's also put me behind on my writing and production, but I'm hitting 2019 hard to try and make up for it. We spent Christmas with my family back in Colorado, then the wife and I went on a long overdue vacation to celebrate our 12 year wedding Anniversary (December 29th). We hit up Thailand first, which is where we lived for se...

Viridian Gate Online: Doom Forge (Chapter 9 - 10)

NINE:

Good Deeds

“Well dinnae just stand there!” one of the guards barked, his words coated with a thick Scottish burr. He broke from the line of defenders, heavy boots tromping on the cobblestones as he moved. He was short, well under five feet, and built like a brick shithouse. All muscle and scars and beard. His hair was fiery red, his complexion ruddy, his eyes were like little chips of coal, and faded crisscrossing scars seemed to cover every bit of...

SEVEN:

Quest Alert!

Twenty minutes later, just shy of noon, Abby and I sat at a little circular table in a tavern-turned pizza parlor, called Frank’s Old World Pizza. Instead of the typical wooden floorboards, the floors here were black-and-white checkered marble, imported from Ankara. The tables were all finely made and covered with checkered table clothes that looked out of place with the rest of the quasi-medieval surroundings. Still, the owners had tried. Aga...

FIVE:

Yunnam

It was 9:30—a solid two hours since the morning briefing had begun in earnest—by the time I headed into the hallway outside the Command Room with Abby, Amara, and Cutter in tow.

“Thank the gods above and below that’s over,” Cutter said with a grin, instantly looking more alert and interested now that the meeting was over. “How in the bloody hell can anyone make a war sound so bloody boring, eh? That’s what I want to know. But ...

THREE:

Lost and Found

Cutter emerged from the shadows, then shot me a wink as he let out a sharp whistle. The Inn’s heavy wooden door swung open and out trotted the rest of my crew, save Forge who was with the Libertas holding down the Keep. Abby, Amara, Otto, and Ari all present and accounted for. Everyone looked tired and worse for the wear—understandable since it’d been a solid twenty-four hours since anyone had slept—but they were alive, and th...

VGO: Doom Forge Chapters 1 - 2

ONE:

Glome Corrie

I inched forward on my belly, the snow crunching softly beneath my wiggling body and churning knees, then stopped at the edge of the rolling hillock, overlooking Glome Corrie, nestled in the valley below. Slowly, carefully, I lifted the bronze spy glass to my eye, breathing out a wispy cloud of steam, which immediately fogged the lens. I grunted, readjusted my position, and wiped the lens clean with one thumb. I slipped the spy scope back into pla...

A Thanksgiving Gift

Hey everybody! I have a little Thanksgiving Gift for all of you. A finished copy of Civil War: Rogue Dungeon Book 2, almost a full week before it hits the shelves. Just click on the bookfunnel link below to download a finished copy of the book to your preferred e-reading device. The only thing I would ask is this: if you enjoy it, please consider leaving a s...

Viridian Gate Online Expanded Universe Cover Reveal # 1

Hey everyone. So if you caught my Facebook Live over on the Shadow Alley Press page yesterday, then you probably already know about the expanded universe projects in the works. If you didn't catch it, let me fill you in! We're working on a bunch of VGO Expanded Universe novels. Some of the characters are brand new, some of them are characters you've seen before, but never quite like this.

These are not co-authored books. These books are from a variety of amazingly-talented writers who lo...

Civil War: Rogue Dungeon Book 2 (13 - 16)

Chapter 13

Reservations

It took two Modest Health Potions to heal Roark’s cuts and bruises and return his filigreed Health vial to full—and that was only with his hearty Health Regen rate. He drank off the last as he and Zyra headed down the staircase to the third floor. The screams of tortured heroes echoed off the walls behind them. At the bottom of the stairs, in the bottleneck where Roark had died, stood a familiar figure in an antlere...

Chapter 11

Changes

With only 100 points to play with to design the first floor, Roark had to get creative … and sacrificial.

In one fell swoop, he scrapped all the traps and pitfalls in favor of keeping the next group of heroes alive and well until they reached Wurgfozz in the second-floor throne room. Roark hated to see the traps go, as they did prove effective in winnowing down the heroes’ Health to make them easier kills for the Changelings and lower-l...

Chapter 9

Respawn

The driving music of war laid the backdrop to Roark’s journey through death. Though he was incorporeal—a very disconcerting sensation indeed—he could see the winged Infernali and Malaika battled high over the Hearth, the volcano Hearthworld was named for. That were brilliant creatures. The Malaika held aloft on golden wings, surrounded by halos of brilliant opalescent light. The Infernali were equally impressive; a dark counterp...

Civil War: Rogue Dungeon Book 2 (New POV chapters)

Okay, so these two chapters are POV chapters from other characters--characters outside the game. There are only a few of them, but I decided to add them in late. The first is from Roark's nemesis PwnrBwner and is the new chapter 3, while the second is the new chapter 7 which takes place from Randy's POV. Randy is one of the lead Software Engineers responsible for Hearthworld. This is all ass-backwards, but wanted to throw these in for y'all!

Viridian Gate Online: Side Quests

Hey everyone! Sorry I've been a bit behind on posting content. I've been doing big structural rewrites on Civil War -- something I hate doing, and its been eating through my time. Gonna have some new content here shortly. In other news, just a brief announcement. Viridian Gate Online: Side Quests is out. The novella a Gentleman's Work (which I posted earlier here on Patreon) is included in that (though its been edited since then), along with five other excellent short stories from five excellent...

Doom Forge Rough Cover

Hey everyone. I'm working with one of our artists on the new Doom Forge cover (VGO 6). This is what we have so far. I like most of it. The character is rad, the magic looks great. I would like a redder sky though--think the city is burning--and the title itself falls a little flat. the coloring is too meh. Also, need to get the "digital" sky effect that is on the rest of the covers. What do you guys think? Would love to hear in the comments below!

Chapter 7

Wurgfozz the Sadistic

Before descending, Roark took a moment to loot the corpses of the dead Heroes then distribute his Stat Points. After careful consideration he added 4 points to intelligence, another 4 to Dexterity, then split the last 2 between Strength and Constitution. He carefully examined his Character Page, noticing that both his Greater and Lesser World Stone Authority had increased along with his level. Considering just how valuab...

Chapter 5

Lead from the Front

Roark, Kaz, and Zyra returned to the Cruel Citadel with Griff in tow. As they descended the crumbling staircase, the old fighter’s good eye—or remaining eye, rather—scanned the antechamber. Only one Reaver Bat hung from the ceiling at the moment, looking from Roark to the unfamiliar human as if uncertain whether it should be attacking. Roark gave it a terse shake of the head. The corpse of the other Bat lay broken on the floor at the b...

Market Run

“…and the skewers!” Kaz said, clasping his wide belly as he gazed fondly into the dancing flames of the kitchen’s hearth. “So juicy and yet so crisp. It was that moment that Kaz fell in love with food,” he concluded bobbing his oversized head enthusiastically.

“Love at first bite?” Zyra offered.

Roark chuckled as he equipped the Ilexim Royal Guard Helm the huge Thursr had looted from his latest turn at g...

Another Cover Reveal! Upcoming VGO Anthology

Hey everyone, here's another cover reveal, this one for the upcoming Viridian Gate Online Anthology. Hope you love it. Also, tomorrow I'm planning on posting new chapters. Either, I can post the next two chapters for Civil War: Rogue Dungeon 2 or I can post my VGO Novella (which will be included in this Antho). It is from Cutter's perspective, and takes place between books 5 and 6 as he ascends to the position of Gentleman of Rowanheath. Let me know in the comments!

Chapter 1

Trolled Again

The mist-veiled graveyard was silent when Scott Bayani, in the form of his main, PwnrBwner_OG, crept through the rows of rundown tombs toward the outer wall of the Cruel Citadel. Under normal circumstances, this place was overrun with Shambling Revenants. Tonight, though, their bodies lay around the gravestones, overtop vaults, and hanging halfway out of mausoleum doors. Somebody else’s party must’ve come through and wiped t...
