1. The relentless pursuit of pleasure and avoidance of pain, leads to pain.
2. Recovery begins with abstinence
3. Abstinence rests the brains reward pathway and with it our capacity to take joy and simpler pleasures.
4. Self-binding creates literal and metacognitive space between desire and consumption, a modern necessity in our dopamine overloaded world.
5. Medications can restore homeostasis, but consider what we lose by medicating away o...

I urge you to find a way to immerse yourself fully in the life that you’ve been given. To stop running from whatever you’re trying to escape, and instead to stop, and turn, and face whatever it is. Then I dare you to walk toward it. In this way, the world may reveal itself to you as something magical and awe-inspiring that does not require escape. Instead, the world may become something worth paying attention to. The rewards of finding and maintaining balance are neither immed...

wisdom
Good morning!
As the world turns, let us reset and refresh our minds according to the Truth according to God.
“The ways of wisdom are sweet, always drawing you into the place of wholeness (peace, prosperity). Seeking for her brings the discovery of untold blessings, for she is the healing tree of life to those who taste her fruits.” Proverbs 3:17-18 TPT
When I look at the wisdom of the world vs the wisdom of God, there is such a stark and obvious difference. God’s wisd...

We are not victims of our biology. We are co-creators of our destiny alongside God. God leads, but we have to choose to let God lead. We have been designed to create thoughts, and from these we live out our lives (Prov. 23:7).

Writer and philosopher Robert Pirsigon enjoying the journey:
"Mountains should be climbed with as little effort as possible and without desire. The reality of your own nature should determine the speed. If you become restless, speed up. If you become winded, slow down. You climb the mountain in an equilibrium between restlessness and exhaustion. Then, when you're no longer thinking ahead, each footstep isn't just a means to an end but a unique event in itself. This ...

Good morning!
Question of the Day: Do I fuss and fume over every inconvenience or do I consider the possibility that they were put there to slow me down and cause me to see something important that I would have missed?
I take this even farther in my evaluation process: Do I get worked up over world events or twists and turns in what I thought things “should” be?
The first question comes from something I was reading by Oswald Chambers. He has such a way with words and pro...

Days like this ☀️
I was sipping my coffee and thinking about some things. ☕️
Yesterday when I was driving around, I almost got hit by a very treacherous red light runner who veered around other cars that had already stopped so he could run the red. 😳
Then I was almost rear ended by someone holding/looking at his phone. 📱
Then I was almost backed into by yet another distracted driver. 🚗
I started to feel the weight of our busy, distracted world...

From a friend today…. We were talking about comfort killing Americans
"last generation, 18 yr olds were scaling the beaches of normandy. now, 18 yr olds are cowering in their colleges' "safe spaces"

Good morning!
One of the ways God seems to speak is through a variety of sources saying the same thing AND as these things line up with His Word.
We are told to be careful to discern the spirits, so we have to tread carefully, but there are often multiple ways we get confirmation.
My friend Pastor Jim had made a post on one of his Porch Talks topics and I had tucked that into my mind. Although I had taken a break from listening to YouTube videos and podcasts, I felt a strong...

With just the smallest bit of neglect, the heart too can become neglected and begin to fill with worldly desires. This is why we must do the laundry.

Hi everyone!
A popular health group I have led over the years is Sugar Detox. There are so many benefits to getting sugars out of our diets! Sugar is highly inflammatory and can be the root cause of many dis-eases! Unfortunately, sugar is in so many foods that before we know it, we are consuming far more than our bodies can handle.
If you want to join us, we start Aug 19th. It will be run through Zoom (Pastor Jim and I are co-hosting and that is where our group meetings will be)....

It is highly dishonorable for a reasonable soul, living in so divinely a built mansion as the body she resides in, to be totally unacquainted with its exquisite structure.” — Robert Boyle, 1690

Good morning!
An incredible blessing comes through a very “unlikely” word you have heard. Repent. Pastor Jim talked about this in a post he had put on Facebook and I pondered it for quite some time.
The word Repent conjures up feelings of guilt and shame. It may make you think of a street preacher yelling at you. But that isn’t what the word means and it certainly isn’t a “shouting” angry word.
It is an invitation to change the way you think. To change your mind....
