Meet Commander Lochem Ahaffa

"It doesn’t work like that. Wrong stays wrong, even if the whole world suddenly starts calling it right."

Meet Commander Lochem Ahaffa, May’s older brother. He will also feature in Episode 2.

He is extremely convicted about what is right and wrong, and lives his entire life guided by what he believes. This includes the life threatening secret he shares with Mayvheen...

It's done! The entire script for Episode 1 is completed. We'll be opening a call for Beta Testers over the next few days. Limited spots will be available, but patrons will automatically be accepted.

We still need to finalize some music pieces, and all of the delayed backgrounds will possibly only be available at the public release scheduled for the 1st September, but we have a minimum, playable game.

We'll continue doing some more polishing before we release the Beta Test version,...

Free side images for Veera now on itch.io

Thought I'd share this over here also.

The first set of free side images for Veera is now available on itch.

These are cropped versions of the images that our patrons receive to ensure that our patrons get additional value. (The itch versions will be shoulders up, while patrons will still receive the 2/3 or full body images depending on the tier)

Our patrons will also receive any new artwork a while before the cropped versions are released on itch.

Music Teaser - Artist: Griiffin

This is a teaser (10-15sec clips) for some of  the "work-in-progress"  tracks done by Griiffin specifically for Infinite Stars that you'll soon be able to enjoy in game.

Griffin has been composing for Infinite Stars since day one. He studied music while majoring in psychology.

I'm sure you will agree that it is a distinct sound for a scifi game. We also have a second set of tracks available with a more modern feel to it, akin to what you would expect from a s...

Meet Captain Raymond Malone

"For everything important we will find a way, for anything else we will find excuses."

Meet Captain Ray. He is the Captain of the UIC Tabitha, and you’ll see him in the second Episode of Infinite Stars. He admires people who, like him, places duty and honor above all else.

He is loved and respected by the crew, but has very few friends with whom he can “just exist” It doesn’t bother him most of the time, as he believes it comes with ...

Meet Lahkhadia

"Squids? Ah. Because of my limbs. Humorous. But your intellect and reasoning have betrayed you."

Meet Lahkhadia, one of the first Cephilusk you will likely interact with when playing Infinite Stars. We had a ton of fun coming up with the Cephilusk culture and their beliefs, and we're convinced you'll enjoy them in game.

Her arts assets will soon be available to our patrons on Lieutenant tier and higher.

We made some progress on Infinite Stars this week (mostly out of game)

Our character artist now has an extra person to help out, so we'll be getting more character art, more regularly - which is great news.

Our music composers are also hard at work, but we are at a bit of a crossroad regarding the direction. Infinite Stars has very unique audio tracks, crafted with love and attention. We also have some more generic, what you would expect for sci-fi music tracks.

Game Progress: History of Screenshots

I thought it would be fun to share the way that Infinite Stars has developed over the past few months. It's been quite a journey from place holder art to semi final art.

It's been an amazing journey thus far, seeing how everything comes together. We honestly can't wait to release the first episode!

We'll probably have a call for Beta-Testers somewhere of the next few weeks, and if you don't want to miss it, consider joining View Post

Devbuild Version .0724

Been another busy week where we made tons of progress. The send-veera route is just about done, and the don't-send route is coming together nicely!

We have had some issues with our original background artist, but we've found a new one. We should have the first background from him by next week. If the quality and style is acceptable it will be smooth sailing going forward. Everything else is on course.

We have received all our required character sprites for the first episode, (we'r...

Designing Uniforms

This post is currently available for patrons and non-patrons.

There have been some really fantastic and some really dumb uniforms both in sci-fi, fantasy, and ironically real history. In keeping in tune with our hard science theme for Infinite Stars, we did some research on uniforms, the how’s, some why’s, and more importantly what to keep in mind when designing military and other uniforms. A lot of this information is also applicable when designing space ...

First off, special shout out to our newest patron, Commander Bacom262! We are super excited to share this journey with you.

We had some issues with power failures for roughly two days that slowed down production, but we're over it and have been steadily making progress. A lot of time was spent writing and save for some short scenes that we want to rewrite, we are 95% done with the Veera route and around 85% done with the no-Veera route.

We've also been looking for an additional ba...

Sciencey Science Fiction Starship Design

This post is free for all patrons and non patrons

When we started the project, we knew there were three important things we knew we wanted to include in Infinite Stars. The first was the Creative Commons aspect of the game, allowing our fans to create their own stories within the Infinite Stars universe. The second was the Utopian outlook on humanity's future, and lastly was the "hardness" of the science fiction we wanted to tell.

I'll never forget...

Thoughts on Marketing an indie Visual Novel

Everyone knows (or should know) that marketing a game is one of the most important facets of creating an indie game. I thought I'd share some information about our marketing efforts and shine a (somewhat dim) light on the process.

We are constantly improving our brand, evolving as we go. This is a bit contrary to the usual marketing echo chambers, as the normal first step is to design your brand first, but when working on an indie budget, you don't always have the funds to immediately ...

Development has been continuing at a steady pace. Our artists are busy with the final pieces of artwork for the first episode. The Cephilusk characters are a bit more complex and takes longer to draw, but the end is in sight!

  • Fixed up Mayvheen's transparent "floating" bar
  • Darkened UIC human uniforms

As usual, we've been busy in the background, working hard on the first release for Infinite Stars. We've had to make some adjustments to our backgrounds to ensure that the quality is on par with the rest of the project.

  • Troubleshoot and resolved audio loops
  • Reduced Katya's side image size to be closer in line with a younger person
  • Added new bg

Shuttle Interior WiP

Today we’re sharing some of the steps it took to create our fabulous shuttle interior background done by Ava, our background artist.

Almost all of our art assets start out with references to get a look and feel for what the final image should look like. Think of it as a mood board if you will. That being said, what our artists achieve with these references is nothing short of magic.

After some thought and discussion the artist comes back with a simple line sketch. This is done t...

Meet Ensign Veera Polyakov

Veera is another one of the first characters you’ll meet when playing Infinite Stars.

In a tough situation, she is the person you want on your side. You might not always agree with her methods, but she does get the job done.

She owes her life to the TPA and now the UIC, and she has tried to settle that debt during the discovery war by serving as an assault marine. To her disappointment she is one of the lucky ones that survived. It might seem like she has no empathy...

She is well liked by most and has wisdom beyond her years and while she lives in an idealistic future society of acceptance and tolerance, she does have a secret that could destroy her and her reputation...

First look: Katya

Katya is the colonist girl that interacts with the crew from the UIC Tabitha. From here our talented artist will do the colors and facial expressions, and then the sprites will be incorporated into the game.

With less than two weeks to go for our estimated first public version, we still have a lot of work to do.

More Art, More Story.

It’s been a busy few days again. Being in isolation really helps when you are motivated to write and launch a project.

We got the first few character sketches for Mayvheen and it’s looking good. Really excited to see the finished character. It’s a surreal experience seeing a drawing of a character on paper that has been living in your mind for years.

We’re also still looking for artists that can do some of the star ship designs for us. We found a few promising...

Ren'Py Animated Textboxes

So I decided to make this first Ren'Py Trick open to Patrons and Non-Patrons. It will show you how to create your own animated text box in your games.

My example animation is maybe not the best, but it shows how the "static" moves around. The animation is also pauses since we made the one frame pause for 0.3 seconds to show that you can use any length of time to pause.

I hope this helps. It's a relatively simple, low effort hack that makes a huge difference i...

A sleepless night of coding and progress

So I’ve always thought Ren’Py wasn’t that difficult, and after a sleepless night, writing and coding a small 20 minute proof of concept project,I have to say I feel amazing. (I have slept in the meantime)

After my short project I watched some Youtube videos and learnt some more stuff. While I am by no means an expert coder, having a slight coding background really does help when learning a new language. I can confidently say I am able to code this project to completio...
