Put tanking out of its misery

by Matthew Rossi

I have played World of Warcraft since its inception. I have tanked that entire time. I have tanked in every expansion, and until I started to go blind I tanked the hardest fights the game had to offer -- and even with my eye difficulties I've tanked up to Heroic Nighthold thanks to friends. I've been at this a long time, and I've seen the ways the game has changed its model for tanking design and how tanking works.

Tanking right now is about as well designed as ...

How to remove ads and get full-text RSS on Blizzard Watch

Hi patrons!

If you're trying to get ads-free or full-text RSS, there's a code you enter on the supporter page at Blizzard Watch. Once you've plugged the code in there, you should be set. The code is:

welcome2blizzardwatch2

There are a few caveats this:

  • It won't remove the curated Amazon block on the homepage (sorry, it's a technical hurdle), but you won't see ads ...

How transmog saved the World of Warcraft

by Matthew Rossi

I hated the idea of transmog when I heard about it.

I have been, over the thirteen year course of my involvement with World of Warcraft, always something of a curmudgeon. Nowhere was I more curmudgeonly than when the idea of anything even remotely like what the current transmog system is now was brought up. I didn't see the point, I objected. What kind of player was going to hunt down all these old armor pieces and weapons just for vanity?

If you're chuckl...

World of Warcraft and player culture

By Matthew Rossi

Should a raid guild ask you to take two weeks off work to push world firsts?

Should a guild call others in the same hunt for world firsts by derogatory slang for genitalia? Should the raid leader scream insults at raiders who don't perform up to his or her standards? Is this all just a harmless result of younger people raiding at a competitive level or is it tox...

Blizzard’s BlizzCon 2017 reveal should be a pet battle app

The idea is not something new -- an app for our phones that lets us battle with our WoW pets.

Since pet battles were introduced with Cataclysm there has been constant talk of an app for them. Even Blizzard's devs have said it's a cool idea; but sadly throughout the years nothing has materialized. We've barely had any major change to the system itself since it was launched. Sure, new pets have been added and new challenges introduced, but the basic system hasn't chan...

Revamping Blizzard Watch's Patreon

Hello Patreons!

Many many thanks for your continued support over the years. It's meant the absolute world to us, and we'd not be here if it wasn't for you.

We wanted to give you all a heads up that we're going to be revamping our Patreon benefits soon. And not Blizzard soon. June 2nd soon. Why?

Well, if we can be really blunt, we don't think we've done this right -- obviously there's a lot of support out there for us, but we're not creating enough value for you. You’re putting fo...

Lore Watch Episode 49: Future of the Lich King

This week our Lore Watchers Anne, Matt and Joe answer a couple of reader emails on a particularly interesting subject - the new Lich King, Bolvar Fordragon. Is there anything left of Bolvar? Is he working towards darker purposes we don't quite understand just yet? And perhaps most importantly - does there really always have to be a Lich King?
