The next day we were all set to go to the demonstration. Zevrack and I met Millicent and Patience in the bar for a breakfast of stew for Zevrack, Millicent, and I. Patience enjoyed a mug of Ale for breakfast instead. After that we made our way across a few of the city's islands until we made it to the administrative center, the island that was always at the center of the city, no matter where any of the other islands were. Millicent led the way as we walked past a few columned embassy buildin...

The bar was relatively quiet, with Patience and Millicent the only two people sitting together. I caught a few snippets of conversation as I walked down the stairs.
“Really! you think Tib and Nica?” said Millicent.
“Of course I do, I’m surprised you don’t,” replied Patience.
“I can’t even picture them together. Do you think they even talk?”
“My guess is that they’re very vocal together.”
Unfortunately, I hit a particularl...

I looked at both groups, trying to assess what was happening as quickly as possible before making any rash decisions. The King looked absolutely stunned at what was happening, more off balance than I’d seen him since I’d arrived. Both groups glanced over to me, but didn’t move their weapons from the targets they’d chosen.
“What’s going on?” I asked.
Atlan smiled. “We’re claiming this settlement for the Horde. A blessing and an honor for them.”
“This wom...

I stood up. Just because I’d found the information I needed, didn’t mean I’d found everything I could. I started going room to room, searching for anything useful. On the bottom floor I found rows upon rows of computers and binders full of technical information, but all of that was beyond me. When I moved up to the top floor again I found mostly personal belongings. The only thing I found was a long black garment in my size. It was like a cape with a hood, fastened by a small silver cla...

After a trip to the village headman to collect our reward, a paltry fifteen gold each, we started back on the road to Itlan. The trip back was uneventful, and because the village was relatively close to the city, short. Millicent spent the entirety of our short journey flattering the hedge wizard, Darvish was his name, and praising his creations. The man seemed unused to compliments, particularly from women, so he had no trouble explaining every technique he used and trick he’d developed to...

Development has begun on the rEvolution project. Primary focus is on how to increase resistance to radiation and overall endurance, as well as distribution. Initial successes are… promising on all fronts. The work being done is largely based on my own research that was already quite far in development, so that allows a good foundation to build on.
There was a large amount of technical information, and several entries in a row going over the day to day m...

We took a break for a few minutes while Millicent identified the other items in each chest. One was a ring of perfume that gave off a pleasant cinnamon and spice smell, and the other was rope that looked to be only three feet in length, but when it was pulled on could extend to twenty. An interesting, if odd haul.
“I’m really not sure of what to expect next,” said Patience, checking the edge of one of her knives. “I mean, usually I can hazard a guess, but this is getting a littl...

I was leading the way as we made our way deeper into the cave. We’d already encountered some traps and with Zevrack busy with his newest invention, I was the one with the highest trapfinding skill. I wasn’t eager to be back in a cave again so soon. It had only been a month since the last one, but this was the only job I’d managed to grab from the board that had any kind of decent reward at all.
Behind me was Patience, our rogue. She was my backup on traps since she had the skill, ...

I was cautious the entire trip, keeping my nose open for the musk of the Ursans and my eyes on the path in front of me. I could tell that the maps I’d referenced for pathfinding were a little out of date. Areas that had been clear before were now covered in thick patches of forest. Still, the topography was the same, and I knew the direction I was headed in, so I was confident I’d reach my destination, unless an Ursan found me first.
The first hour of hiking was uneventful, though I...

Hey Everybody!
Just wanted to put a note out there that tomorrow and possibly Thursday's chapters are being scheduled unedited, and may be a bit rougher than usual. A medical emergency has limited the amount of time I have for polishing them up like I prefer to do.
Thank you for understanding,

I followed Shay back to the King’s hall, which I found transformed since the previous morning. Tables and chairs had been brought in and arrayed in neat rows, food of various kinds was piled on plates and into bowls, and a massive plate of black meat sat in the center of it all, stacked up higher than my head. There were dozens of people lined up, both Rens and Horde plates already half full, and seemingly at least one cup in. A man sat near the table strumming the strings of some kind of c...

The first thing I did after we landed and got some distance from the walking mountain we’d left behind, was to climb the tallest tree and try to get a good look at it. Even though the mountains were quite some distance from us, I could barely see them all just due to their sheer enormity. I could only just make out the fact that they were moving, incredibly slowly and steadily, carrying dwarvenkind from place to place.
The creature itself, from what little I could make out of it, was ...

I went to leave the room, and ran into the physician who’d treated me, a mixture of confusion and fear on his face.
“You…you really did survive?” he asked.
“Looks like it.”
“Are there more? Like you I mean? Beyond the woods.”
“None quite like me, but yes.”
“Wow.” he said, an expression of awe on his face that I found off-putting. He looked toward the room with Atlan in it, then turned to Shay. “How was her mood today?” he asked, a litt...

The rest of the trip passed uneventfully with no issues beyond breaking up drunken brawls, and one dedicated shoplifter who led me through a wily chase through a dozen tunnels and caverns before I captured him. We were finally going to exit the dwarven caverns and head for a human city. I was thrilled, even the brief snow covered breaks we’d had from the caves had been a breath of fresh air, and the idea that I’d be done with caverns of any kind for as long as I wanted to be made me ecsta...

I slept as poorly as I was used to, no more, no less, and woke at what felt like early morning. It was dark and I could feel cold radiating from the stone wall behind my bed. I raised a hand and checked my chest. No scars. That was the furthest I’d tested my healing ability so far, closest I’ve ever gotten to actually dying too. I don’t know what it was about my life recently that kept leading to issues like this, when I’d had to kill things in the past I’d never take this kind of d...

The circle of red widened and started roiling with different hues of crimson, as if it was a wine red sea being shaken up by the hand of an angry god. Suddenly, dozens more circles appeared next to it and all across the sky above us. There were more colored red, some were gold, silver, pure white, or even purple. All of them shifting and shimmering as if they were alive. The caravan came to a stop, the beetles needing to be calmed for the first time since we’d begun our trek. Everyone was t...

The first day in the caverns was quiet, and unfortunately, very boring. It had taken a while for me to get used to the movement of the beetles, but eventually I settled into a semi comfortable position keeping my eyes on the road and my ears listening for any sounds that may signal an approach. The merchants mostly kept to themselves that first day, unused to the strange new elf and focused on performing inventory and bookkeeping after their visit to Mykas.
I tried, unsuccessfully, to s...

I wish I could say that, like the other times I’d been this hurt, I’d lost consciousness. Unfortunately, this time, I wasn’t so lucky. I heard the gate open and people come on. They didn’t rush out, but instead moved slowly and deliberately towards me and the beast I’d killed. Once they were sure the area was secure, they came over to me, lifted me onto a stretcher, and carried me back through the gate and into their castle. Several of them remained behind with the creature, and I c...

I woke up the next morning in an empty bed. Elle had a lot more packing to do than I did, and had gotten up early to get it done. Unlike Zevrack and me, she was simply paying her way onto the trip, having been given a small sum of gold by the town to finally start working as a seeker outside of the village. I myself had been given 20 gold pieces for doing my part for the town, as well as a few changes of too short clothes, five bidents, several days of food, cutlery, a whetstone, and a few ot...

I stood, dumbfounded, at the foot of the stone walls for quite some time before I thought to start looking for an entrance. I walked around the outskirts of the fort for a while, sticking to the treeline so that I could blend in with the forest, and catching sight of a few men and women on the parapets with bows at the ready and quivers at their backs. Their clothing was different from what I was used to seeing in the wastes. The styling of it reminded me of what I’d seen on different fanta...

The Black Woods were a strange place, unlike other forests I’d been through in the past. The black trees were packed closely together in some areas, and further apart in others, and they lacked any truly distinguishing marks. Luckily, between my compass and the tracks I was following, I had a way to keep my bearings. The tracks were mostly uniform, and from the way they were spaced I could tell they were moving the dirtbikes slowly through the uneven terrain in order to avoid accidents. I f...

I approached the caravan with a wide smile on my face. My approach drawing the attention of the caravaneers and the townsfolk who gave me head nods and polite hellos as I entered the town. Two of the caravaneers shared a look as I approached, then looked at me and returned my smile. One of them was a gnome wearing a jaunty hat with a feather and a white silk shirt, and the other was a dwarf in a simple jerkin with an iron dagger on his hip and the mustache above his beard twisted into fine tw...

In the weeks after the death of the sebetan I found myself growing, for the first time since I’d arrived, restless and bored. I guessed that while my brain doesn’t like to dwell on things now that it was half-elf, it did seek new stimulation and activity. Without a war to fight or a series of kidnappings to investigate, I just didn’t have enough going on.
Both the stonemen and the mushroom dwarves told me that there should be a caravan passing through any day now. My plan...

After I accepted, the Khan dismissed me and one of his women guided me to a room with an old military cot and nothing else. She was blonde, with her hair done up in braids that were looped through gears and bolts as if they were jewelry. As I removed my pack and went to sit on the cot I found that she was still standing at the exit.

It was easy to tell when you were getting close to the seat of the Iron Horde. The air begins to taste more like smog, and the rumbling of engines becomes more and more frequent. Patrols began passing us as we continued along the road to Fette. We were mostly ignored, undertaker business was sanctioned by the Khan himself after all. Those times when I had the reins of the wagon, I tried to keep track of what types of convoys were coming and going. I noted the usual influx of young men and wom...

It took a few more full days of excavation, during which time I unlocked the lovely new skill ‘Dig’ which I hoped never to use again after my quest was complete and I left the caverns. That assumed I was going to survive of course, but I found any assumptions to the contrary counterproductive. I wasn’t sure of exactly where I would go, as I didn’t really know what was out there, but talking with Elle I’d found out that there were a number of human cities clustered around each other ...

Surrounding it were a number of smaller vehicles kicking up dust clouds of their own. After watching a bit longer I realized they were motorcycles. They were much faster than the wagon, and seemed to be circling around it concentrating their fire on the horse.I could tell that it was wounded, and starting to slow down.

I took a moment to get dressed and equipped, then took a little more time to eat before I left the room. As I walked out I realized I was in a makeshift hospital of sorts. I was surprised to see that most of the patients being treated were stonemen, though a few mushroom dwarves and kobolds were scattered about as well. I received respectful nods from each group as I walked through and I did my best to return them. I was a little surprised to not see any angry looks from the stonemen, but wit...
