Parable - 194 - HD

Oh my word we might actually be close to an ending.

Commentary

- Ragnar the evil

We're now well outside what happens in the games being parodied, and yet somehow still commenting on them?

I'd praise myself for this tremendous feat of writing, but it's not that difficult when you're poking fun at something with a manipulate seer character who emanated "I am the actual main villain" ene...

Who could the evil seer possibly be?!

Commentary

It'd be hilarious if the reveal in the next comic was Tedd on stilts.

It's not going to be for a whole bunch of reasons, but nonetheless.

Suddenly safety.

Commentary

How to write like me:

1 - Write whatever comes naturally.

2 - Nitpick the heck out of it.

3 - Victory dance.

Okay, the part where "good" Grace is no longer willing to fight was all part of the plan and I had planned for it to come up at some point, but panels one through three were pretty much my brain on autopilot.

TF Awareness Poll Nonsense!

Someone has just transformed. Which of these levels of awareness appeal to you?

Can vote for more than one. This isn't about which is the best, but which sound like something you'd like to see.

This is generally speaking. It goes without saying that which is preferred could depend on the scenario.

Grievances!

Commentary

We all know panel four was the last straw for Grace.

I originally imagined this as three panels.

Then I pictured Grace in silly poses.

Then I thought "oh no, this is going to be five panels now".

EDIT - Minor Correction

Complex story stuff.

Commentary

It's possible I just wanted to draw the first panel, but I managed to toss some information in there, so I claim all of the high roads.

"Did you have literally ANY dialogue decided on prior to drawing this?"

Sketchbookery

I am planning the return of sketchbooks / milestone images sometime next week.

I have been experimenting with color palettes to replace my previous flawed (but informative) system, and my inking process is evolving a lot recently.

With being in an experimental phase that could easily have mixed results in mind (though hopefully still good results), I will initially make a few “Dan’s choice” images before ones people voted on.

At least one will involve Santa Ellen, henc...

Battle's end?

Commentary

Susan is correct.

At no point in any game I have ever played, including any in the Fable series, does someone become two elemental squirrels representing the inner turmoil of morality within someone that then fight each other before becoming that someone again.

Granted, I have not played a relatively huge variety of games.

It's conceivable it's in one them.

EDIT - Fixed the attached comic to the right comic. Sorry about that. I attached the last image in the folder on reflex, which, due to an earlier edit, was not actually the latest EGSNP.

Squirrel fiiiiiight!

Commentary

I felt it would be cowardly of me to resolve a fight scene between two squirrels with a "whichever one I feed" thing going on in any way other than one squirrel eating the other.

That being said, there was no way I was going to draw it, so I h...

SQUIRREL!

Commentary

In the previous comic, I originally had a couple of dots on Grace's face that were reminiscent of Yin and Yang. As now mentioned in the previous comic's commentary, I decided to remove that, as it wasn't really necessary, perpetuated Yin and Yang equaling "good and evil" (incorrect), and really, it just looks better without the dots.

(I bring this up again mostly because someone might not have been aware of the change at the time of my first posting th...

Of course!

Commentary

Now, if you called THIS?

Eat in moderation, because it's RAINING COOKIES.

EDIT - Grace's face originally had dots reminiscent of a Yin and Yang symbol, but after some concerns about misrepresentation were expressed (as in the implication of Yin and Yang meaning "good and evil", which is incorrect), and considering how not necessary referencing it was, I decided it was better without it.

Not just for those reasons, either. I think it just g...

But why a pirate squirrel?!

Commentary

"Ha ha, so silly evil Grace acting completely out of character, right?"

Actually, I thought it would be neat to explore an outlook that could legitimately turn Grace evil. Huzzah!

"...Ha?"

If you've been wondering why Grace's pistols look like ballistic hair dryers, there are two primary reasons.

1 - Easier to draw! YAY!

2 - I had zero interest in drawing Grace holding anything that looks remotely realistic whi...

A parable within parable.

Commentary

There are apparently a lot of variations of the "two wolves within me fighting for my soul, the one I feed wins" story out there, but this is completely different.

She has squirrels.

Anyway, trying to make panel three work the way I wanted was a strain on my fragile mind and I hope it conveys what I wanted with her moving in on Susan while darting side to side.

If not, well... I tried.

Misaligned.

Commentary

And this is why approaching dread pirate squirrels with a "good" alignment can result in conflict. It's not so much "everyone who is evil are buddies", and more "why else would a do-gooder be after me?"

While I haven't actually played that many games with overt morality systems, my expectations are such that "there are bounties on my head and you're a notorious do-gooder" is more explanation than I'd expect from most games in which NPC hostility is d...

Suddenly Boss Fight!

EDIT - Minor shading correction

Commentary

What do you mean I don't have a team for moments like in anime in which it seems like the animation has suddenly leveled up ten-fold?

WELP, time to go with a minimalist approach with judicious sound effect nonsense!

Anyway, Grace is a boss fight.

This is what happens when you don't let her be the protagonist in a video game parody.

Evil pirate! YAR!

Commentary

Buckle up, everyone.

Things are about to get a little nuts.

EDIT: Ye gods, I keep forgetting to mention this. Grace's outfit and her "queen of the pirates" thing is a reference to the Manga / Anime One Piece and its main character, Luffy. This same character as a kid claimed their punches would be as powerful as pistols one day.

EDIT 2: This would be VERY out of character for Luffy.

100% Fine.

Commentary

Oh hey, alignment-based consequences! NEAT!

Of course, Susan was only neutral, not "good", so it shouldn't go THAT badly, right?

What.

Sometimes, when I don't use a question mark at the end of a sentence that looks like a question, I confuse some readers.

Which is understandable! What I'm usually going for with that is a delivery that makes it clear that they already know the answer, which usually can be summed up as...

O.P. Outfit.

Commentary

- Fancy outfit

Sometimes, a comic is unnecessary for the plot, but there's something about it that amuses me, so it gets made anyway.

Sometimes, a comic pretty much only exists because I'm still thinking through what comes next and am cleverly buying time in a way absolutely no one will notice.

This comic is a little from column A, and a little from colum...

Well, I like her outfit.

Commentary

Honestly, I'm not sure what you should wear when greeting someone who might be some sort of pirate queen.

Maybe your own pirate? Like, riding on your shoulders.

You can be like "yeah, you might try something, but I've got my own pirate right here."

And they might have a parrot on their shoulders, and not going to lie, that's a power move, but it's nowhere near the power move of having a pirate on your shoulders.
