"Oh Sorry"

I should really finish this sketch. I quite like it.

One of the things I like about drawing Julie is that she's a very expressive actress. She's tiny and lanky with a big head and big eyes, and she's a moody teenager prone to unusual poses. She could very well find herself asleep on TOP of the couch rather than in it. It's not something she does very consciously, but like a cat it's because at that moment she thinks it's comfortable.

It's the kind of "extra" that I think would read well ...

Just a Butt Sketch

This was more tests on that new pen that I like. I'm not a hundred percent sure on it though. I like how thick the curves can get but it still requires more care than I would like to deal with when making art quickly and regularly. Some of the lines are very beautiful though. And I think I like what I can do with hair with it.

Anyway more thoughts on San Diego.

I stayed in a very out of the way hotel in San Ysidro. I had no idea what San Ysidro was before I booked a hotel there. It was a...

Touchy Feely Nursey Bots (kinky?)

I'm borrowing the nurse bot characters I designed for Cassiopeia Quinn here for a Colette pic. These guys are definitely more about an unusual mask/nurse kink that people dig. Personally, I dislike being in hospitals! It's so spooky! And I'm not that big on people waiting on me either! But I do like the look, and the "cleansuit" is really appealing to me. The glowing thing is a medical bandage that you can also see in action in Cassiopeia Quinn on a recent page, 2017-07-28 00:01:00 +0000 UTC View Post

Here's an Odd One (kinky?)

I don't believe I uploaded a high res of this one.

It's an odd bit of art for Colette, who's starred in some odd pictures for me. It's kinda fun having a character that can go through weird messes, because them being a singular anchor point the odd stuff can get very odd. In this case it's like she's been robo/mindcontrolled into a kind of safety robo cop with a glue gun. It's a weird pile of kinks that I think the venn diagram of people it works for is going to be very small! It might not eve...

This was an older nsfw sketch that I liked quite a lot. High Res in May's NSFW dropbox, I think...

Hey folks, I'm admittedly still beat from the trip to san diego. I'm still trying to parse everything that I managed to do and get my mind around that. I also admit I'm dealing with some emotional whiplash and frankly anxious about the future these days.

I don't really have the where-with-all to give a really good and fun accounting of what I managed to do. I'd like to put them down, just s...

Pencil Sketches from a bar in San Diego

"You're still putting your head down and doing pages every night. But the difference is, both literally and figuratively, I'm not so hungry anymore." Was a thing I actually said over barbacue dinner with friends (satellite 9, punchyninja, art knight studios, and others) at San Diego Comic Con. While I can't say I'm at the top of my game, this was what I blurted out in between bites of beef brisket in a place I used to only imagine seeing. And I'm not just talking about comic con. I'm talking abo...

Greetings from San Diego with a robot sketch why not

Okay, so I could probably type a lot of stuff in a blog style report from San Diego comic-con. I've been having a good time and met a bunch of my artist friends I'd normally have never had the chance to meet before.

As a career builder though, I'm not totally sure how this trip is stacking up. But that wasn't the main goal right now. I am getting to communicate but it's such a busy and extravagant convention that doing actual business is harder unless you're already in the professional circles...

Pretty Neil Instrumancer

So might as well blow the secret, I'm visiting San Diego Comic-con.

I'm not tabling or anything but I am getting to go as a kind of "professional" so it made getting a ticket easy! This isn't completely a work related trip but it can be one. Shopping around a portfolio is always nerve wracking but an interesting experience.

At the same time, I'm in a position where I don't really desperately need one. Between this patreon and pay from Cassiopeia Quinn, I'm juuust about making minimum wag...

Oh Hey these Characters...

Oh man, I completely forgot about this pile of sketches. There's some nice concept work for this adult comic I'm still looking forward to doing someday. I just need to make the time for the project to happen.

Unfortunately at the moment, I really shouldn't talk too much about the story. It's still forming in my head and it's based on an odd little idea. Basically though, it involves girls kissing and intimate times.

Some elf sketch

I'm probably not gonna finish this one. I was testing a new pen which I really like but you won't be able to tell the difference without really looking closely at it. I had been wanting to emulate more "anime" style inking but I can't quite get it right. By anime I specifically mean the styles that center around the use of a micron-like pen instead of a dip pen or digital brush.

This isn't really a successful attempt in that vein.

If anything, look up this mobile game called Terra Battle...

Pinup Selfie Girl, (slightly nsfw)

I believe there's a high res in the dropbox.

I figure this is as good a point to mention using reference. One thing, I think it's important and it can be critical to understanding the acting of the characters that you're drawing. Even a simple pinup like this, a person acting it out can often bring to the table things you didn't realize were important parts of the image.

That said, I added the link here since in this instance I was clearly just drawing from a specific photo with very lit...

"The Contractor"

Just a couple of sketches. I wanted to post this pic because I really like the expression on Suzie and the other girl here.

That's Lacey who's supposed to be in Pretty Julie Technomancer, whenever that becomes a thing.

So hey, I used to fill these update posts with lots of details on my life. I haven't done a lot of that with these newer ones because I'm writing a lot of these ahead of time. I queue up about 5 new posts in one sitting. It actually takes a huge load off my mind if I manag...

Colette in a bit of a Bind! (Sorta Kinky :P)

High Res in the June Dropbox.

She's quite safe folks, she's in good hands. The thing with a picture like this is that there isn't enough detail in the image itself to understand the roles everyone has in this scene. You need to know the characters and the roles I usually give them to get an inkling as to what's going on. This makes for a pretty poor portfolio piece. And it's not quite something I'd introduce Colette Kinky pictures with.

To explain it for my less familiar followers, Colet...

Just a quick scenic sketch

I like the colors on this one. I started with those and then tried to build a small landscape scene out of it. The perspective came after and was drawn ontop of the painterly setting.

I feel like if I gave a shot like this, the effort it deserved, it could look really nice. The technique has merits.

One of the tough parts of coming up with backgrounds and scenery is that you can get mired in small details without understanding how they all piece together as a whole. Doing the background ...

Mecha Car Girl Cyborg Person

There's a high res of this back in June's dropbox folder.

I think I like the idea of drawing transformers with more humanoid parts. It might start edging into weird and creepy territory though. Like the way transformers change, it would be totally unsettling for most people to see something with more human like features twist itself into a friggen semi truck or boombox.

This actually reminds me of this game that I thought was cool, way back in the PS2 days called Kinetica. It kinda has a...

Chun Li doin a Dab

Inspite of some wonky anatomy, I rather like this one. I draw Chun Li a bunch but I'm never quite sure where the front of her dress should be flying should she be crouching down or something.

Some of the things I like here, I like her hands. They're a little exaggerated in size but I'm getting more confident in drawing them. And I think with hands, hesitation or drawing it over and over again trying to fix it, shows a lot. This might be a nice piece to ink some day but for now I rather like it...

Run!

Just a quick sketch. (heh) I believe there was reference used here.

It's obviously not a completed drawing but I liked the motion a lot. I don't draw a lot of characters in motion. In fact if you looked at my various kinks, you could say I'm very interested in characters NOT in motion. But I like the forward dash here. The exaggeration isn't perfect. Her back leg feels wrong. It's not done either but it doesn't quite feel right. I'm thinking that's a fault of the cropping on the image...

Just Some More Faces

Nothing too much to add here. I think I was trying to find a slightly different way to draw "Cassandra Cain" than I usually do. I ended up using how I draw Cassandra in a bunch of other characters I did. So I feel like it might be a good idea to change her to something closer to how she appears in DC comics.

I like the smooth shading on this face. It's nice to be able to do a fully modeled face with rendered noses and everything. But it's not always necessary. If you over do the rendering on a...

"Chef Girl" Side Character Sketches

I've put a considerable amount of thought into a "Chef Girl" story and what it would entail but I'm not really ready to talk about it at length as of yet. Too much of the extended story is nebulous and it's more likely than not, it's not going to happen.

I don't know enough about the world of cooking to create a story about it. It's not impossible of course. The people at Pixar when they set out to make Ratatouille didn't know much about the the restaurant world. But I don't have the sorts of ...

It's a Me! Colett-io!

This is among the sillier pictures I've done. High res back in the June 2017 dropbox.

This would be considered too rough of a drawing for actual posting on a gallery somewhere. What I mean by that is you can see too many construction lines still in the piece. To some extent, I love seeing construction lines. They have this way of informing you about a picture's anatomy that clean art doesn't always deliver. Plus I like seeing brushwork on a painting.

But there's also some cheap work here...

Totally Unfinished

I had in my mind, I was gonna see how fast I could put this drawing together if I painted the basic layout first and then drew in the figure as I saw them in the pattern. There are a lot of people who work this way. I usually don't.

But I think I can see the appeal. Even in this rough form, I can start picturing what the lighting and the overall feel is like. I shouldn't have tried added these lines on top of it, at least not yet. I think I immediately grew frustrated and stopped working on th...

I actually really like how this drawing came out. I don't normally draw the Nintendo girls but I'd been seeing a bunch of art of them recently. And also I wanted to draw a few people I haven't drawn a lot of. It's hard enough getting bored drawing pretty much the same poses. It's insane that I haven't gotten totally bored drawing the same girls.

I kinda don't like doing two archive pictures in a row but I couldn't quite resist queuing this picture up for a July 4th post after I found it for Sketchiebook 5.

Now, I don't want to flood this space with controversial thoughts. You can find those on my twitter. But suffice it to say, I have a lot of conflicted feelings about the United States....

Something From the Archive (2011)

I couldn't find the other image I was thinking of but while looking for it I came across this gem. It's a heck of a time capsule written right in there. Portal 2 had just come out and I had my own version of the AI cores and given them little noodly arms. I had this nice Stephanie Brown alternate costume which was based on regular clothes and stuff. I bet it wouldn't look out of place next to the 2016 "Batgirl of Burnside."

But more importantly, it's nice to remember that for a LONG time on tu...

I draw nightly in a stream with occasional nsfw nights, lots of not so legally sourced flicks, and a bunch of friends and people who work like an art studio. We have guests and stuff who visit in the chat room. And it's been going on for years.

Its gone on long enough that people become aware of each other's projects, their original characters, and the things that make them tick. There's been enough time that in jokes have built up and stuff.

This is not an actual project but just in case it becomes one or I use the title again later, I'm gonna make it a tag.

This was just sketching around. The colors came first and then the lines. It's a fun way to work, and having a clear idea of where the light and the colors were ton contrast with the grey was all I needed to give the lines some form.
