We watched some vampire movies last night and I rather liked the style of the ladies in this ridiculously cheesy and exploitative italian flick. It's one of those movies you're better not thinking too much about how it was filmed. But it comes from an era where it's all very lewd and pretty ladies are on screen all the time.

I need to master basic anatomy. I do so many cheats, it's surprising I've gotten away with it for this long. My strengths tend to be with my coloring work and my composition and energy. But when it comes to forming the body, I've done so little to master the craft.

Whatever, for now enjoy some wrappings. I'd like to do more halloweeny ideas in the near future. Any ideas?

I disappeared for a few days there, didn't I? I hit something of a really dark place for a short while, and some thoughts about not being "good enough" crept to the forefront. It was really rough and kept me from doing even the basic things I like doing. But eventually I was able to draw a little, then hopefully a lot. I owe a whole comic page still...

90's Anime Colette

For no real great reason, I was watching Grease and Grease 2 yesterday while working on comics and pinups and junk. Grease 2 is better off tossed into a grease fire. But one of the things in the sequel caught my ear, besides the god awful lyrics. One character's name was Paulette and while I was sketching, I thought what if Paulette was just another alternate universe Colette but in Grease style clothes and a lot more haughty.

Just Some Face Sketches

This isn't really an insightful post or anything but I should definitely use my ability to draw different faces more often. I have a style and that style lends itself to a very particular version of my character's faces. But when I do exaggerate or work on different features in quick sketches, it always works out well. And they still have some of that basic appeal faces like my "colette face" have.

Only some quick thoughts right now, because the rest of my thoughts are: "I'm really hungry, I should get some dinner."

I should look into some new texture brushes. I don't think I'll be able to really replicate real world materials in Clip Studio, no matter how hard I try. And after a point, finding ways to replicate the look of real world stuff isn't worth the extra heartache when you could instead spend that time creating much more refined work.

This was a pretty nice quick sketch. It's a little too rough to make it into a comic book but the expression and the haziness of it adds to the scene a lot. A lot of finished art can look too clean or precise, which is why the impressionists pulled away from that.

I don't really have a lot of smart stuff to say here. I still like this method of sketching by utilizing big blobs of shadow and then outlining those but it needs a more assured way to get the anatomy correct...

Destiny 2 is still out

and yeah... I've been playing it. A lot.

My ten cent review is that it's refined Destiny gunplay, powers that allow you to be active and generally empower you for longer and stronger. Enemies are more varied and act with exaggerated differences. And they significantly (hugely significantly) cut down the grind by dropping most XP and currency gathering. Just play and get cool stuff.
