The dangers of the desert are many and myriad. The vultures are ready.

We are always warned about things like Hantavirus and the Plague when we go to the desert, so I imagine a little Rodent Death fellow.

You know what will happen-- you'll swell up and die, just like your mothers warned you!

I work for the United States Immigration Service. I made a couple comics depicting that agency, which management told me never to make public. But we're not public here, we're fam, right?
An "I-130" is "Immigration form 130", a petition to allow a foreign relative to come live legally in the US with you. It can be any relative, but spouses, parents, children, and siblings are the most common types applied for. And since Pharaohs of Ancient Egypt commonly married brother & sister, tha...

Hello!
If you're a Patron here, then you're in the Battalion! I've sent messages to you through the emails you've provided, so be on the lookout. Also, make sure the email addresses you have with me here are the up to date ones, so messages don't go to old, unused accounts. I try not to send out too many messages (don't want to be a spammer after all) but I am going to try some new things in the coming year and show more stuff like videos and the like, as well as other projects I am beg...

I doodle even when I am downrange on military exercises! How crazy is that?
Above, a comic I did on behalf of a friend of mine, who was one of those "man behind the curtain" types that made everything happen, of course without any recognition or credit.

Another comic I did for a colleague at the time, who likened her job to "herding cats".

Some doodles, many of which were done in an Army SHARP class.

Elements presented here got turned into a webcomic. I use a lot of doodles as testing grounds for ideas.

They talk a lot about "Wolf Whistling" in SHARP class; I can only imagine a lot of experience with lecherous wolves. The "Blocktopu...

Hey, Battalion! If you have some time you can check out this podcast. I am interviewed by Albert Frank Asker, the unofficial historian for all things having to do with Comics and Comics Creators in Idaho.
The interview is about an hour and a half long and informal; and while BOHICA Blues is discussed, the bulk of the interview is largely about me, my experiences as a comics creator, and my ties to Idaho and the history and context of Idaho comics. I also discuss a lot of the "Empires: Ace of S...

The current feature in my "Classic Comics" category is a sort of dual story I wrote in the 1990's. It is "Empires: the Ace of Spades" and "Empires: Morrigan's War". Of the two interwoven tales, I default to "Ace of Spades" as the primary plotline.
In 1989 some friends of mine were putting together a fan magazine, or "fanzine". They knew I was interested in doing a comic and asked if I could commit; I agreed to do "a mini-series or something". I had a military-genre science-fiction setting in m...

Monday afternoon, the 1st of October, will have a podcast on Mystery House Radio's series "Idaho Comics With Al Asker" in which Al Asker, Idaho's (un)Official Comics Historian, will interview Arik Grant (me) about my contribution to Idaho comics over the course of the last several years.
We'll talk about early comics I did back in High School (some of which my Sergeant-level Patrons have already read in "Classic Comics"), BOHICA Blues, and future projects!
Tune in at the link...

I've talked about a 1990's-era comic I did for a fanzine... starting in October I'll begin posting it here as a "classic comic"! It was originally supposed to be a purely science-fiction enterprise but the fanzine was devoted to "furry" readership and they asked if I could change the aliens into furries. The project is done and all 40 chapters, 440 pages, will be featured here for your enjoyment at the "Sergeant" level and above! Stay tuned!
