Way, way, waaayyyy back when I was but a young'un, I did a series of cartoons for my Active Duty army unit. These are crude and rough and show a very, very early style to my art, a style that stuck with me through most of my junior high school years and into high school and early adulthood. The style seems (to me) to be a mash-up of "Garfield" and "Doonesbury", in which I found very simple, easy to emulate lines in "Garfield" and at the time, "Doonesbury" was seen as a "serious" comic, ...

I think I was angry about something. Or we were in "Resiliency" class, something.
Maybe I was mad that the scanner was acting up?
Either way, be sure to thank and tip your terrorist today.

Specialist Jorge Ricardo was born in Tucson, Arizona in 1981. His family is second-generation American, with his grandparents coming over from Mexico in the 1950’s. Rather than working in agriculture, the family instead gravitated towards the railroad, with Jorge’s father working as a safety inspector for Union Pacific.
Jorge Ricardo and Joe Rock met in Basic Training at Fort Leonard Wood, where the initials of their names placed them next to each ...

I didn't have any doodles today; regular readers know why I have been thrown off-track recently, with the death of a beloved family pet. Typically I load images into Patreon all at once, and then I schedule their release-- so most of the Doodles, "BOHICA Blues Downrange!" and Classic Comics that people see here were loaded weeks ago and timed to appear at certain days and hours. As it turns out, I had started running out of pre-loaded stuff by this day, the 14th of August, and I had not thoug...

Lieutenant-Colonel Wesley Fassbender was born in Omaha, Nebraska, in 1956. He joined the Army at 18 as an Infantry soldier and was trained at Fort Benning, Georgia, in 1974 by a cadre made up almost entirely of Vietnam War veterans. He spent six years on Active Duty and got out, including a tour in Germany which was an eye-opening experience for him.
After leaving the Active Duty Army, he decided to stay with the Reserves “just for awhile”. It turned int...

My first Patreon video upload*, and I amateurishly unbox my brand-new "BOHICA Blues: Mobilized!" comic book!
I will be contacting my Platoon Sergeant Patrons soon for their addresses so I can mail them their copies.
There's also a guest appearance by my dog, Butter!
*I did post a video about me that was done by Armed Forces Network, but this is the first video done by me personally.

Some more character sketches I did for some old Dungeons & Dragons campaigns from long ago; some were actual characters and some were NPCs that were used to drive stories.

A lot of female magic users and the like in this batch.

Some of the characters were experimenting with camouflage...

Juni Okuda was born in 1981 in Honolulu, Hawai’i. She grew up there until her sixteenth year, leaving the islands only to visit relatives in Korea. When her father got a job at Micron Technologies in Boise, Idaho, the family move was a shock to her. Everything in Boise was wrong—there were four wild, extreme seasons, there seemed to be only one ethnic group, there was no beach, and the land supposedly went on forever.
Juni disliked her new home and...

Never too late to start thinking about Christmas shopping! Above: no, this is not going to be a Christmas card design this year. Or is it?

A sky full of WW2 planes! B-17G, P-51D, and a P-38. Interestingly enough, the P-38 was a plane already in production when the war started, and remained in production until the war ended. Almost every other plane ceased production during the war as they were ...

I just sort of assumed that enough people would be familiar with the TV game show "Wheel Of Fortune" for this to work... that's the challenge with pop-culture references; there's no guarantee of universal familiarity, much less appeal. But then again I suppose the idea of spinning a random wheel to see what kinds of "prizes" come up is pretty straightforward, so knowledge of the show probably isn't all that necessary.
Regardless, we changed uniforms almost constantly while at Camp...

Joseph “Joe” Rock was born in 1982 in Spokane, Washington. When Joe was 12 years old, his father got a job in Boise and the family moved there. Joe found himself liking Boise a lot and eagerly took to his new home, graduating from Capitol High School in the year 2000.
After years of school and a desire to see the outside world, Joe enlisted in the Army as a Combat Engineer. He thought that learning about explosives would be cool and he could...

Poor Private Doodles. Strap in, here we go again.

LINK SAUSAGES! IT'S LINK SAUSAGES!
Many many years ago, MAD Magazine published a comic about the problem of "doggy doo" in the streets of New York. People were walking their dogs and not cleaning up after them. They chose link sausages as an acceptable stand-in for graphic depictions of YOU-KNOW-WHAT. Ever since then link sausages ma...

You asked for it; you got it. Above: a difficult horse that doesn't want a saddle has to get a couple bottles in him first.

A funky airplane design; the Japanese had an experimental fighter late in the war that had a pusher/canard configuration. It was supposed to be pretty decent but too late for them. Oh, well.

Wow! A couple of people have decided to jump on the chance to get the BOHICA Blues collection book, "BOHICA Blues: Mobilized!" by self-promoting to Sergeant!
I'd like to welcome both Rohan Tolstrup and Chuck Sherman to the ranks of Sergeant! I hope you enjoy the benefits of Sergeant -tier membership and the books are already at the printers-- I am waiting for a digital proof to make sure everything is okay before the print run is commenced.
As the book goes to print, I...

Above: an angry little ball of piss known as a "cat".

When we were mobilizing to go to Iraq --when we were in Ft. McCoy, Wisconsin-- we had a weird creepy guy that would hang out in the men's showers and just... stand there, watching. Watching, looking, staring... at the various naked guys. We called him the "meat gazer" and this was some of his story.

Those of you in the "Sergeant" tier and higher have been able to read the "Empires" science-fiction war story that I did back in the 1990's. The "Empires" setting is supposed to be huge, a galaxy's worth of adventures, and I had plans for multiple different storylines to be placed in it, most of which had nothing to do with them or very little inter-connection beyond the setting. Basically, a sandbox.
One story I did was called "Borderline" and it was going to feature a small, out...

Is this what happens on the first day in the animal shelter after the dog-catchers have caught them?

Guys fantasize about chasing hot chicks while they are on deployment, but what if it is the other way around?

Hello! The above *should* represent the most up to date and proper Patreon listing so far. Did you know that BOHICA Blue sis also featured in the pages of the National Guard's magazine, "Citizen Soldier"?! It's true! You can see re-worked versions of BOHICA Blues classics retooled for general National Guard audiences. The magazine did a print run for one year, then switched to all-online publication, but you can still see some of your old favorites there now.

I found some old doodles --actually, old comics and comic characters and some game characters-- that were created but not much was done with them.
Above is EOD Cat, or Explosives & Ordinance Disposal Cat. EOD is basically the military's "bomb squad". They have a reputation for being weird and a bit high strung, while at the same time oddly casual about life-or-death things like literal ticking bombs.
Before I got to Iraq, when I was still in training, I made "EOD Cat", and he ...

I'm trying to make "The Human Earwig" a thing for an upcoming BOHICA Blues. Instead of "The Human Centipede" in their world they have the Human Earwig. A mad scientist grafts a guy's hands to his butt for some reason.
Where do we go from there? Where does this crap come from? Hell, I don't even know.

We have Sexual Harassment classes in my daily civilian job, too.
